From reading on CruiseCritic the best way to get around GC is by rental car. Many mentioned using Avis.

They said taxi's were expensive and someone guessed 100.00 US to reach Rum Point.

Was on chat but can't get back in......will try later....

Good luck with chat tonight! It's having it's fits again!

When we went to Grand Cayman last year, we planned on getting a taxi to take us to Boatswain's Turtle Farm. We could not find a taxi anywhere. All the taxi's located off the pier were tour specific. We ended up taking a tour to Boatswains, Hell, a rum shop and a beach. I cant remember how much we paid but it was still cheaper than going through Disney.

Tendering back was never a problem. They continously bring people in throughout the day and therefore they continously have boats taking people back.

. . . Keep up the research on GC! We have some who can book at 105 on our cruise, which is Friday night into Saturday.
I'll bet this is why DCL announced the change. They likely thought it was better to do so before people paid off the balance and booked excursions.

I imagine you are right, Woody.

There have been more reports on our thread that DCL is calling people directly to make sure they are aware....even those who have Travel Agents are getting calls from DCL. One person who received the call said that DCL told her that overall, the excursion vendors just really aren't where they need to be yet to meet their quality standards.

Buckeye Gal, this is totally :offtopic: but I had to tell you - every time I see you posting all I can think of are buckeyes!!!

I had the pleasure of being introduced to buckeyes two Christmases ago at a cookie exchange. My friend who is from Ohio made them and I must say I truly fell in love!

I'm not sure what an Ohio State Buckeye is but those buckeyes became my new#1 fav!!

:lmao: :lmao: This comment has made me laugh! About a month after I joined our Meets thread, I got the same comment!! :rotfl2: That candy created a couple of pages of discussion! Check out THIS PAGE to see what I'm talking about, along with an explanation as to what a "buckeye" really is, and more importantly, for those who want to be introduced to the candy version, there's a recipe on this page too!

BEWARE, however! The posting you'll see on that page turned into a family activity for a few the following weekend as those who didn't know about the candy version just had to make them ASAP!

Just checking in here, in the middle of things I guess. We signed up for this cruise the day it opened, then thought we could not go but did not cancel. Well, last week we decided it's a go - we want to see the ruins. Switched another cruise to 09, kept this one, and pretty much have it paid off. It's me and DH. (Suzanne and Sherman).

And now - no ruins?

Well, I have about a million messages to read through to catch up. I look froward to see what's going on and meeting everyone.

I like the last few posts.

GO BUCKS!!!!

And in case anyone knows - -

Ohio State plays Penn State at 8 PM on October 25. ABC and EPSN will carry it.

Any chance it will be on the Dumbotron? If so, I will be there with Buckeyes!!

What about the ruins in Cozumel? I haven't looked into them that much, but is that fairly similar?

I did some searching last night as well regarding Grand Cayman and found Grand Cayman Island Tours as well. Since we have a 3yr old and 5 yr old at the time of sailing, we will not be able to do the snorkling or sting ray adventure. I just know my kids would freak out! Not only about the sting rays but even being in the deep water with a life vest!

We did the Boatswain tour last year with the stop at Hell- I guess they call this the west end tour. I think we are interested in the east end tour this time. They have an airconditioned van ride that you can pick your destinations or they have a jeep tour where you drive a jeep and follow the guide.

The tours are $69pp- $59per child.

East end tours you can choose several from Pedros Bluff, Pedros St James, Bodden Town Pirate Caves, Rum Point Beach, Botanical Gardens, Rum Cake Factory(samples of cake).

West end tours can choose several from Turtle Farm, Hell, Butterfly Farm, Craft Market, Rum Cake Factory.

Just wanted everyone to be aware of some of the choices and prices so we can compare.

The other option we are thinking of is renting a car and stopping at some of these places on our own. The only trouble with that is estimating how much time we can stay at each place and still make it back to return the car and get back to the port for the tender on time. You also miss out on the history that these tour guides give. We are still really debating though because it would be nice to have the freedom to shop, see historical sites and have time at the beach at our own pace!

FYI- We really hope that the OSU/Penn State game will be on as well! We are huge college football fans! We of course will be sitting with the Buckeye fans- GO BUCKS!
