Well Dizzi, maybe you will have to leave a few things out of your suitcase to fit in your PEACH SCHNAPPS. You know, how many pair of underwear does a girl need. And if you drink your PEACH SCHNAPPS do you even care?:lmao:

First off, I can't believe we might be losing Dizzi and shrpgrl! That can't happen. Can we do a petition or something?? It's title could be "Let them Cruise!" or "Heck, No! They Gotta Go (With Us)!". Really hoping it works out for both of you.

Quickly read the thread about no mailing boxes and no booze. Funny thing was, as I was thinking about needing fish extender stuff, and halloween treats, I had just thought - "Maybe I'll send a box - I am sure I read on here somewhere how to do that." Figures. And as for booze and water, was considering bringing on a case of water and some beer this time, guess that's out. When we did the Carnival cruise in Sept., we weren't even allowed to bring in the bottle of water we were drinking at the port, and no alcohol was allowed to be brought on from the ports. It won't make such a difference for me - I tend to like the frou frou drinks, but was hoping to put a dent in DH's beer bill! Oh well - won't sweat the small stuff. The main thing is that we will still be on the Magic - and hopefully with Dizzi and shrpgrl!

Bummer deal i hope you both can still come! makes me REALLY appreciate being a stay at home mom, i can move my schedule around as it suits me. would be really sad if you guys cant figure sompin' out.

I wish I was a SAHM. We never could make it without me working. I did the SAHM thing for a few years and sold tupperware, did babysitting, took in sewing until Jon started school.
Hmmmm..... I remember when my DH proposed he said Honey, if you would work the first 2 years then you can stay home and take care of the house and I will take care of you.
I can't believe I fell for it.....27 years later I am still waiting to stay home and be taken care of.:)

That really stinks shrpgrl :headache:
So even if you get a replacement and work that nurses hours during the week before you can't do it???? I can't comprehend how that can't be done.
I have 16 years of nursing under my belt. 8 in the acute care setting and 8 in management at a nursing facility. I have seen both sides. I have done the specialty programs as well. Despite seeing other nurses not get it--do you think its worth talking about options with your supervisor? Can you hype up your attendance normally and your abilities to pitch in when needed?

Part of the reason I left acute care was the supervisors--thought I could do it better! I still remember the smug look on one sup. face! so I left
I pride myself on several things

Understanding my employee has a life outside of work
Being able to do the job they do
High standard of care
helping my employee ease the work load (can I find a way to do it better and faster)

Want a job with me?

I can't believe how little time you get off from work - do you mean you can only have 8 days off sick in a year, or is that 8 days total ( ie sick and vacation time ) in the year. What would you do if you wanted a 14 day vacation for example? If you are off sick you are expected to cancel your vacation - that is just barbaric.
We get 8 weeks paid annual leave from work (vacation time or just time off to do what you want at home) plus if you are off sick from work that doesn't affect your annual leave at all. You are allowed sick leave for 3 occasions in a year without a sickness review, and after that you have to go to occupational health. There is no limit on the number of days off sick in each episode. We get full pay if off sick for 6 months, and then half pay for the rest of the 12 month period.
I was thinking about moving to the USA to work as a nurse for a year, but I couldn't work under those conditions - true you probably get much better salaries than us, but I really value my time off

USA doesn't have liberal vacation or sick policies. I get only 3 weeks of vacation. And our employees can only take 1 week per quarter (without my approval) This was done because our facility is smaller and it allows for all nurses to take vacations during the summer. for example one nurse who has been there a long time takes 2 or 3 weeks of vacation might be the same time another one wants vacation. It becomes hard to staff the facility. Our owners do not use agency nurses so that that money could be used for higher nurse wages. So in the end that decision benefits the nurse.

for shrpgrl she takes her two days of vacation and essentially has 2 weeks off. Not bad in my opinion....BUT i think the whole policy on her being sick stinks. :sad2:

I hope all works out for you shrpgrl pixiedust:

Maybe we could combine the US salary and Europe's vacation :thumbsup2

Thanks disney4dana. I wish you were my super. Our super took over our unit when they shut hers down. She brought 1/2 her staff (meaning we now have more staff than positions and her attitude is we can float and help the other floors) and she has her favorites and I am not one. I am the only certified rehab nurse too but she won't even let me train anyone. She has a shift coordinator but won't let her do anything or have any authority. When she is off she has a PRN nurse who worked on her old floor come in and be charge. It is so blatant but the last to go over her head with a problem suddenly lost her job so we try not to rock the boat. I just keep reminding myself that I am moving in 2 years and keep an eye out for another position.

2 MORE YEARS.... 2 MORE YEARS.... I can do it for 2 more years. If not I will move sooner!

Hope everything works out

sending a big bunch of :wizard: for your DD and her DH, they are very brave!

I am so glad you haven't had to change your cruise plans - whew!

Now we just need shrpgrl to be sorted out with her work situation so sending some more :wizard: right over to her!

We have more or less worked out our halloween costumes - we have a theme for all 6 of us but whether I can persuade DS (19) to join in is yet to be established. It's fine having the idea but now I have to make the costumes, and the pirate costumes......I don't think 7 months is going to be long enough.

Thanks everyone. Still have not decided what to do. Really want to say to heck with my job. You only live once and I am tired of worrying about my job. Then the mail comes and reality sets in. Oh well, I can't talk to my manager til next week. She is in meetings all week.

Yes they are very brave but it is what she ahs wanted for soemtime now.

Thank goodness we have the basics for our pirate costumes they will be mostly what we wore last year maybe changing up soemthings just for pictures sake.

But you are right about the 7 months not being long enough i have just finished evrything i wanted to do before my mom gets here in 7 days and now i have to get Easter stuff ready to put out before i leave for work on Easter Morning.

which will take me the rest of the evening and i am only off one more day before mom gets here and Easter, and i have to go for grocery and do last minute things on Friday.

OH HOW WILL I EVER MAKE 4 costumes in 7 months?????????????

AND get everything else ready for the cruise.

WHEW!:confused3 :confused3

fyi...the shipping box story is still developing. See page 7 on that thread for the most recent update. Looks like 1 box now allowed, but with size and other restrictions.

dizzi: could you "recycle" your costumes? If others haven't seen them before, they'd be new to them. :rotfl: You could use last years cruise costumes for MNSSHP. Then 1 fresh set for this years cruise, and reuse them at MNSSHP next year.

Only 5.5" of snow here this winter. Normal is about 24-30. Had some icing, but nothing too bad.
Where I work, we have a paid time off bank (pto). They put your vacation, 5 sick days, attendance bonus, and personal holidays into it. If you don't call out sick during the year, its like an added week of vacation. But if you're sick >5 days, you're technically dipping into your other types of time off. I think its worked pretty well here. We have an extended illness bank for times when you're sick >5 days. (short term disability).

:groom:

Okay, that thread THOROUGHLY confused me! Liquor or no liquor? Water or no water? Homemade goodies/snacks or not???

Can someone end this confusion? Stop the madness!

Yes, I am a blonde and I am VERY confused!!!
