October 25, 2008 Halloween on the High Seas (2)

This is our 3rd Disney Cruise, but we have only recently discovered the disboards. Wish I'd found you guys last month. We would still like to attend the meet and greet. Seems like a great opportunity for us all to meet new friends. I have been trying to add us to the "roll call", but I don't have enought posts to pm the host. Can we just show up at the meet and greet since we know about it? I know the TOT is limited to those who previously signed up. Let me know if we're "crashing" a party by showing up at the meet and greet Day 1.:)

Is is too late to "join the DISers"? We are going on our 2nd Disney cruise Oct.24th with all of you and was hoping to get involved with the fish extenders and trick or treating. Please let me know. Thanks!

One day I might grow up into a full fledged DISer but for now, I remain a lowly lurker. However, I have read through alot of the cruise meet stuff and I must say you guys are amazing! The group T-shirt is awesome! What planning and organizing you all have done! I am always amazed when people spend the money that they do and then don't do any research as to how to maximize their vacation! My hubby's co-worker just got back and said that his first Disney cruise was "just alright." He even said that he was "a little bored!" Unbelievable! How could anyone be bored when there is really so much to see and do? In contrast, one of my co-workers just got back and of course, I filled her head with all kinds of DIS board tips and she was so appreciative. She had a great time! People are interesting aren't they?
Kathy

We would love you all to join us in any of the meets / photos op's etc THE MORE THE MERRIER
we had to put a sign up date on the T&T and the FE's so to let everyone have enough time to get this sorted
I know for the T&T we just have enough bags ordered to cover each child that signed up
if you have not enough posts to pm or post photos (you need 10) just post on here a few times
and anyone wanting the logo to print out please PM me your e mail and I'll send it some are printing them on to T shirts and wearing them on the first day
we still have over 3 weeks to go
so long enough to feel right at home here

QOTDs (catching up on the past few!)

1)What is your favorite adult drink and why? 2)Do you plan on trying the drink of the day or do you just stick with your fav?
Stoli Razz & Sprite with a lime :) I will definitely try the Drink of the day. They are usually pretty fruity and taste yummy. They are also a little bit cheaper! :thumbsup2

Do you plan on spending time in the adult areas (clubs, Cove Cafe, pool, Serenity bay) or is this your FAMILY vacation that you spend the majority of time together (family beach on CC, pool time all together, etc...)
We are usually in family areas or activities - but I plan to try the adult sections every now and then.

Do you drink coffee? If you do, will you try the coffees at Cove Cafe? (I've heard they have nice ones there!)
Not a big coffee drinker - but I do like iced lattes

I have a thought (see the smoke?) that might work.... :confused3

What if we just find out from everyone doing FE's if they are willing to take on 3 additional families (as an additional group). It would be above and beyond the lists already distributed. Then nobody has to feel like they "have" to buy/make another gift. Of course, this is easy for me to say because I have not made up my gifts yet....

There is also the option of adding one of these three new families to each of the already decided lists...

Or.. creating a list consisting entirely of these three families and anyone else who shows up on this thread between now and then...

Just trying to throw some options out there. I understand everyone's point of view on this one so whatever is decided by majority is fine with me. I think I am just a little extra sensitive because I, myself, am so new to these boards.

Don't know if you guys have made your dinner plans for this evening but if there is a Chili's restaurant near you...

Restaurant Locator:

http://www.chilis.com/locations/

You may want to consider going out for dinner tonight. All of their profits today will be donated to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Here is more information!

Join me (in spirit) for a PRESIDENTE MARGARITA!!! Let's help these kids!!! :thumbsup2

That is exactly what I was thinking. Make a new group (I know this is more work for JNS), and make it open to anyone who wants to join (even if they missed the original cut-off). I slid in by joining just past the last second and I am so enjoying getting everything ready for my FE.

There had been a discussion previously about how sad it is to find the DISboard after you come home from your cruise and realize the additional magic you could have experienced (I was reading the first 50 pages of discussion last night - yes, hundreds of messages - to get a clue as to who likes what Disney character, etc., for my FE gifts). Sometimes it is the latecomers who are really enthusiastic (ie, jenn rego - I was really surprised to see she only recently joined - I would have thought she had been around forever).

To new members: You have to post ten times before you can do private messaging. It doesn't have to be long or mentally stimulating. You can put information about yourself in several different entries. You can include answers to recent polls:
1. What is your favorite adult beverage (if you have one)? Will you drink only that or will you try the drink of the day (DOTD)?
2. What will you do at Castaway Cay (CC)? Family time or adult time?
3. Long dress, cocktail dress or pantsuit for formal night? semiformal night?
4. Suit or tux for your DH (Dear Husband)?
5. Favorite Disney movie?
6. Any excursions for Grand Cayman, Cozumel, palo ressies (reservations), dinner seating (late or main)?
7. Are you dressing up for pirate night?

And one I am making up now: would you like to participate in the Fish Extender fun (like Secret Santa, but you know to/from whom gifts are coming), even if it means just a small group? You can always give gifts to anyone you connect with on this board (they just might not have something in return) because they have DOD (Disney Obsessive Disorder) and have been planning this cruise since the day they made reservations over a year ago and are too exhausted to do more.

Jenn - I went to the formal wear site last night and ordered a long dress on sale for formal night; was going to wear a dressy pants outfit, but like the dress concept better. Thanks for giving me another place to look.

Jenn - did you get much wind and water from Hurricane Kyle this weekend? My brother called Saturday from their Cape Code (Brewster) house on Saturday while it was raining, but he didn't realize that Kyle had only gotten as far north at Bermuda at that time. Don't know if he headed back to Boston early Sunday to beat any weather.

Not so much wind, but hella lotta water! :goodvibes

My plants are so happy... it is still raining today! I do not know what our totals are so far but I would venture a guess in about 3 inches!

My work driveway became a waterfall at one point on Saturday!

I know Brewster... My parents own a second home in Harwich and my grand-parents also live in Harwich!

sorry I can't take credit for looking after the FE's that is Sarahs TotallyAngelic hard work
but maybe if everyone that is intertest in starting a new group would sign up and see how many there is

Anyone else like to tell us abit about yourselves putting these into one post
like to tell us a bit about yourself
PM me if I missed you or want something else added
michelle9343 I was trying to think of some ways to get our "lurker" friend to come out of hiding. What if we all told a little bit about our selfs again..

I'll start
I'm Michelle and I live in Clermont Fl ( 30+ mins from WDW) I live with my husband Vito and my 2 kids Vito Jr 12 and Angelina10. This will be our 3rd Disney cruise and we love everything Disney.I love to trip plan and tend to plan plan plan and then when the trip comes I just go with the flow. To me trip planning is a big part of a vacation.
What about everyone else?????

kvaday
As far as getting to know everyone, here goes nothing. My name is Vanessa, This will be our first real family vacation and our first disney cruise. My DH and I have cruised with NCL before and cruising is really the only type of vacation we enjoy. We are not big on long lines, traffic, big crowds of pushy people etc........ We are a pretty laid back family that loves to have fun. I have 2 DD's, Alexus (8) & Gabby (5) at time of cruise. For the most part I am pretty social on here but in person I tend to be shy at first. We live in Northfield, New Hampshire. Uhhhhh................I guess thats all for now. If anyone has questions feel free to ask away.
4 more months to the day until we leave for Florida!!!

mommy2777
i know i know it sounds alot like the movie "Meet The Fockers" lol we get taht all the time! My name is Amy im 31.5 and my Husband, Todd will be 41 in November, we have 2 kids, Hayleigh 11 ans Mason 8 atc. We live in Vero Beach, FL about an hour from the port and Disney World. This is our 4th DC and we LOVE it, cruising is the way to go....gas prices, hotel $$, food, activities....get the picture? We are a very fun loving humerous, goofy family. We love to laugh and joke around. Well thats all for now, ask for more details if needed. lol

Shoshie;
Hi all ...
Jumping on the bandwagon (although how I'm going to remember it all in four months will be a magical moment in itself).
My name is Shoshana (turning the big 3-0 next week) and I'm married to the adorable Adam (who will be turning 33 six days before we cruise). We met online and married last October (see our wedding pic in a previous post). We live in the West San Fernando Valley (like, yeah!) and have APs to Disneyland (we go about once a month). He's in database creation and management; I'm an editor and writer for a weekly publication. No kids ... but we sometimes act like children, so it evens out. This will be my third DCL trip (15th or 16th cruise overall) and Adam's first DCL trip. We're cruiseaholics. [/quote]

Scoop on us....We are the Eddy family from Newfoundland, Canada. I (Rexanne) am 40 years old, Greg (DH) is 41, and kids are Nathan (12) and Katherine (10). We have a golden retriever as well but name is Jessie not Amber. However, same name as NewfieMom's dog.
This is our 2nd Disney Cruise. We were not part of a discussion group on our last cruise and learned about this one from NewfieMom.
Rexanne

suziemva;
Okay, we're the Matterns from Virginia - just outside of DC. I'm Suzie (38), DH is Ed (45 next month) two DD's, Victoria/Tori will be 6 next month, and Ameera (20 months). We had kids late in life. I quit work after 15 years (where I met DH), went on vacation the next week to the new AKL and came home pg! The best Little Disney Souvenir ever!!!See, it only takes quiting work to get pg!! LOL!.....probably more information than you ever wanted to know about me...sorry!
This is our third DCL cruise. We're now spoiled and will not cruise on anything else!! We're Disneyaholics with my most recent trip last week being my 34th, DH's 31st, Tori's 23rd and Ameera's 5th! We have trips planned for August (thank you free dining!!) and of course after the cruise in November.
I'm a SAHM but do the books for our company and one of the properties we manage. We're branching out into International deals and getting another company off the ground. It will involve working with the African government and trying to modernize some of the villages over there (hence the name Modern Village project). We just hosted a family from Africa to come over the past few weeks to meet with them after Ed's partners met with them in Africa last February. Fingers in many pots right now and it's all exciting!!!
No animals anymore. We had a dog for 14 years but had to put him down almost 4 years ago now. We suspect he had cancer but knew he had cataracts and some other things. It was a very sad day and I still can't bear the thought of getting another dog. He was my baby for a very long time.
I met DH 20 years ago when we both worked for the same moving company. We will be married 18 years this November. Hard to believe we've been together more than half my life.
I thinks that enough of a novel for now!!! I could go on and on but won't. We're looking forward to meeting everyone. I really don't have any recent pics of all of us - haven't gotten my Photopass CD yet from last weeks trip yet!! I will post one when my friend gets a CD to us, hopefully soon.
Feeling much better today - the antibiotics are kicking in!! BUT I'm still exhausted and bed is calling me. Late night last night and too much running around today is making me a very sleepy girl!

Hi! My name is Valerie and we're booked to do this cruise with you! We're from Canada - the province of Newfoundland and Labrador actually (I always forget to add the "Labrador" part - sorry to that half of our province!). This is our 2nd Disney Cruise, and my 3rd cruise over all. In our family there's me (42 - still find that hard to believe, but that's what my birth certificate tells me !), Brian (38 - yes, I robbed the cradle !!), Alex (11), and Adam (9). I am a huge Mickey/Disney fan, and the researcher/planner of the family - hubby just shows up where and when I tell him! (Too bad I only seem to have that power when it comes to vacations!) We also have a dog named Jessie - and he looks like a minature Golden Retriever. Really looking forward to the cruise, and meeting you all!

Ok, OK, I'll bite. I am Cheryl and this will be our 4th cruise on DCL, the last being an Eastern in Feb 2008, which was fantastic. We were hooked after doing the Land & Sea in 2004 and can't wait for the new ships with new itineraries! We are also DVC members, and have used both points and $ for the cruise in the past, and plan on rebooking while onboard. I have been a "lurker" on DIS for several years now, bordering on DIS LURKER Maniac! We did book this cruise in 2006 and changed it once, last year, so we did book a while ago.
I don't anticipate posting much, but remaining a "lurker" as we look forward to some family time during the week, but I may add or ask some stuff from time to time.
I am anxious to hear what everyone thinks the different nights will be, so that I can pick a good Palo night for dinner. I'm thinking that formal night will be Monday and Pirate Night wednesday, based on the other western itineraries, feel free to chime in!
Has anyone done the Island tour and snorkel with the stingrays in GC? We (me and DH) would love it, but we were wondering if DS (9) will be ok with the stingrays off the boat?
Looking forward to 4 months from Now!

Here is our little bio....
I am Dana. This our 2nd DC. I have recently come over to the Disney Addict side of life. This is only my 4th trip. I discovered the Disboards last year before our first cruise much to the dismay of DH
I am 38 (gulp) Geoff,DH, is 37. We have been married for 16 years. We have 2 children who are Kyle ,13, and Christina,9.
We live in a very small town about an hour west of Chicago, Illinois. Geoff and I have managerial jobs that can keep us pretty busy at different times of the year. I am a nurse and Geoff is in public works.
So we truely enjoy our time off. We like to spend time with our kids and friends. And definately enjoy meeting new people like all of you!

Nothing catchy like 'Meet the Faulkners", but here goes my intro...
I am Michelle and have finally reached the Big 3-0! Dh is Pedro and he is 33. I have 2 girls. Briana is 10 and Alyssa is 8. They absolutely love the clubs! Briana loves Nintendo DS and any type of video games. Alyssa is a girly girl, and prefers dancing, cheerleading, make up, and all that kind of stuff.
This is our 3rd Disney cruise. Never cruised with any other lines and don't plan on it! We have done the eastern caribbean and the mediterranean cruise. The Med cruise was a trip of a lifetime!!! I am praying they go back...especially to the Greek islands! We are also DVC members and try to visit Disney often. I think those are the main things for now!

Midwest Cruisers;
Hi all! Thought I would join in on the reintroduction of our family- we cannot wait to join everyone. This trip has consumed us for the whole YEAR! This will be our 2nd Disney cruise and my 4th cruise overall. Would love to try a meditteranean cruise with Disney- my last meditteranean was with Carnival.
My name is Laura (41yrs old but feel like I am still in my early 30's) and my husband is Rob (35yrs old- that is why I stay so young . We have two wonderful children- Ryan (5yrs) and Kara (2 1/2- 3 at time of cruise). We also have our golden retriever puppy-Max and two cats- Simon and Murphy.
I am a recent stay at home mom. Still trying to get the hang of it. It is sure harder than I thought it would be! My husband is a warehouse manager. We live in Toledo OH but travel often to Indianapolis, Columbus, Chicago. We also go to the lake often in Michigan. I need to find some recent photos to post soon along with some recent pictures of our golden retriever puppy- he has grown tons since our last pictures.

To re-introduce: DW and I are both mid-30's, and Pharmacists. I work at a hospital, while Christine does mail order via a work at home internet connection. No kids, but one 4 year old dark brindle greyhound that came into our life 2 months ago. I need to ask DW for the password to the photo account so I can post a photo. This will be our 3rd DCL cruise, and God willing, the first time we really get to experience CC. We're thinking of an excursion to 7 mile beach at GC, stingrays at CC, and staying on the ship at Cozumel. We enjoy ice hockey (Hershey Bears), kayaking, gymnastics (DW), competitive shooting (me), auto racing, and the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY. .

Hello - I thought it was about time that I joined in the introductions.
We are the Whittam / Howsam family from Wales in the UK, and we live on the lovely but not very sunny North Wales Coast, about 5 minutes walk from the sea. Our family consists of myself, Sarah (43 - ouch, I don't like that bit!), midwife, mother and total Disney nut. I love everything Disney, but have a particular obsession with Pirates of the Caribbean (both the rides and the movies).
I am married to Tony who is ex-Royal Navy but now working for the National Health Service in Portering Services, (45 - turns 46 on Halloween ), who is also a fellow sufferer from Disney Obsessive Disorder. Between us we have four wonderful kids who are all still in High School: DD Taryn, (17), DD Louise (17), DS Daniel (14) and DS Stephen (18).
This will my 6th Florida trip, 4th Orlando trip and 11th Disney trip ( 8 times to Disneyland Paris as we are only an hour's flight away!), but it will be our FIRST EVER Disney cruise and we are unbelievably excited.

My name is Tara (36) and I live in Noth Dakota where my DH Mike (39) is stationed he is in the Air Force. We have 3 children whose ages at the time of the cruise will be DD Shelby (17), DS Cameron (15) and DD Ashlyn (13).
This will be our first cruise and to tell the truth really first family vacation. Being in the military our vacations usually consisted of going to see families on both sides. We were originally scheduled to go on a cruise in Feb 2008, which I had booked in Feb 2007 but rescheduled to this one due to Military, my DH could not get the leave time in Feb. So it feels like we have been waiting forever for this vacation
We are going to suprise the kids with 3 days at WDW after the cruise. So I am very excited, since we have never been there.
Also not sure what is all involved with the fish extender exchange? If someone could let me know that would be great!
Tara

Hello! We are the Krein family from San Jose, California
DH Todd, 40-something, is a native New Englander, Dartmouth grad and bonafide computer geek (Data General, Apple, WebTV, Microsoft). He is at his third startup company and we're really hoping this one takes off! More cruises, woohoo!
Mom Laurel, also 40-something, is a California girl. I stayed home for several years but now work full time as a manager at an infertility clinic. Oh the stories we can tell...I'm a past board member of the Junior League of San Jose and love to dabble in digital scrapbooking when I'm not planning trips!
DD Sofia, 10, is a computer geek-ette and going into 5th grade. She is a voracious reader, loves video games, Webkins and Club Penguin.
DD Annika, 6, is another budding geek-ette going into first grade this fall. She's also a great dancer and our family comedienne.

We would LOVE to find a family (with daughters) to share a table with for late dinner seating!

Jenn,
Thanks for posting the info about Chili's fundraiser for St. Jude's. There is very little funds going into research for childhood cancers that having a major restaurant chain support finding a cure for the most brave, strong, and beautiful children is wonderful. Trent was never treated there But I believe what has been learned there and at other institutions have saved my child's life. (Taking a breath) I won't get on my soapbox here. Thanks again for posting.

WOW!!!!!:goodvibes you all have been busy busy busy! I have been MIA for a while and I come back to a million pages to read! Not sure how much I will be around again since I am on baby watch. My BF is due on Halloween but is in pre-term labor at the moment. I get to be in there with her so I am just waiting for the call.

3 MORE MONDAYS!?!?!?!? Where did the time go? I have so much to do, I knew this would happen!:yay:

Vanessa, we were wondering what happened to you! Good to see you back on the boards.....now is it too much to see you in chat tonight??????

I had a baby brother that died when he was 1.5 years old (16 years ago). He had a form of Leukemia that, in NOW, very treatable. I like to think that even though he was not treated at St. Jude's that they work they do there will stop other families from going through what mine did.

Thanks for thanking me about my thread... I posted this in quite a few places today, and believe it or not, and taking some crap from one particular person who does not like Chili's. He/She/It is being quite rude about it! :sad2:

Wow! If you don't like Chili's - don't go, but they are doing a very good thing. I actually went on Friday night. My kids colored a pepper and we made a donation. Too bad we can't go tonight, but I hope they get a great turn out!

I want to thank everyone, especially jenn&nelsonrego, Totally Angelic and Auntlynne for trying to see what we could do about TorT and FE. I am sorry I'm so slow to catch on as far as the actually cruise thread for the cruise we are going on! If that makes sense. I have been lurking for a while, I am ashamed to admit. Although, I have been a Disney fan ever since I went the first year they opened! I'm just slow in the technology department! I live and breathe Disney, I wear Disney,my house is decorated Disney, my license plate says Disney, I love to plan and talk Disney and I have passed the love of it on to my kids! My kids made their door magnets yesterday and we bought a Halloween FE from ebay yesterday too. If it doesn't work out for us to participate offically, that is okay. We will prepare some goodies to take to pass out randomly to others so my children can experience the giving and maybe we will get a couple of surprises from someone in return?!

Fav. drink? Whiskey Sour, or anything fruity!
DOTD, OF COURSE! bring it on!

Spending time on cruise? Lots of family time:grouphug: , Lots of quality mom + dad time:woohoo:, lots of time with my NEW friends and old one too aka Rob + Missy and LOTS of fun time!

Coffee? no i HATE coffee! but i have been known to drink an iced one every now and then, as long as it has LOTS of cream and sugar! hehe:surfweb:

Apparently I annoyed somebody by posting this all over the DIS... :sad2:

I didn't mean to and I apologize if anyone reading this feels the same.

I simply thought it would be a good way to get a message "out there".

I thought maybe if I give you the reason I did this, it might help sooth any frayed nerves.

My baby brother, Tommy, was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was 6 months old (two weeks before Christmas). Although, he was lucky enough to receive the very best treatment (including a bone marrow transplant with our own father as the donor) ~ he passed away when he was 1.5 years old. It has been 16 years. My brother would be 17 right now if that dreadful disease had not taken him from us.

The type of Leukemia my brother had, is now, due to the advances in research at hospitals like St. Jude, very treatable and has a high remission rate.

Anything I can do to help St. Jude's ~ I do...
