October 22, 2005 Roll call

The boards sure are quiet lately. Everyone must be taking care of their final details.

Are we wearing our pirate costumes for dinner?

I finally opened my closet today trying to figure out what to take. The dress clothes are easy. It's the play clothes that are tough. SHORTS, CAPRIS, LONG PANTS... WHAT SHOULD WE TAKE! I guess I'll just take a little of everything. I know the evenings out on deck are sometimes cool. This is a tough one.

HAVE FUN PACKING EVERYONE.

Hi Dyerneeds - my family are all wearing Pirate costumes to dinner! DS6 convinced grandma & grandpa that we should all dress up :rotfl2:

I packed mostly shorts - I never thought it was cool enough in the evening to need pants last year. I'll have 1 pair jeans with me that I am wearing on the airplane on the way down and 1 pair of nice black trousers - other than that (and dressy stuff) all I'm bringing is shorts and skorts (the kind that look like skirts all the way around). I am bringing a sweater in case it is cool (evenings or air conditioning).

I have also started packing, decisions, decisions! I am sure I will change stuff around a couple times between now and then!

Timon, have a safe trip down and we will see you and DH on the Magic!

same here. laid out the clothes in the spare bedroom. the dressy stuff was easy. it's the daytime attire that i'm having difficult with.

The whole packing things just scares me. I am packing impaired even for a regular trip. Cruise packing takes an expert IMHO. :rotfl:

Actually we went to the mall this weekend and finished up a lot of things and I have set aside all the medicines, first aid etc. that I swore I wouldn't take this time but just couldn't bring myself to knock off the packing list. Stuck with a sick kid and no Pepto Bismol!? Unthinkable!! LOL.

Oh, and my docs finally came! :cool1:

Did anyone see the thread about the huge screen on the Magic? Someone sailing with us said her DH saw a movie playing on it from the interstate and it looked great! Can't wait to see it in person!

Just Wondering, if the Magic went into Dry Dock on Saturday, I heard it takes 2 weeks for all the service they do, that would make us the first cruise, Right?
Anyway only 12 days of suspence left and away we cruise.

If I followed it correctly the Magic arrived in dry dock on the 3rd, and is sailing from drydock 10pm tomorrow night (according to another thread)
and the big screen is already up and working!

Thank you for the update, it's just getting so close I sometimes get ahead of myself. what other updates have they installed? Maybe I should finish packing.

oops, forgot, Magic sails the Eastern on the 15th, so we are second cruise
not so sure this is a bad thing since it still doesn't sound like it will finished for our cruise apparently :sad1:

Sorry if this looks like I'm hogging the space.....

the other thread says the crew isn't saying anything else other than people will love it... that sounds good :cool1:

pdarrah I started reading the thread you started on Palo dining recipies...whoa....sounds great....I'm hungry NOW! :teeth:

SCDizneyDawn,

We had a LONG day today and I am pooped so I am off to bed, hopefully I get some sleep tonight cus we are up VERY early on Wednesday to fly out.

We leave tomorrow evening for the airport hotel so I will check in on the thread tomorrow before we leave the house just to say good-bye.

Good luck everyone with all that packing!!!

Have a great trip down!!

Packing Question: What's the luggage situation. Is it 1 carry-on and 1 checked piece (like the airlines) or is it 1 carry-on and 2 checked pieces? I'm trying to see how much I can get away with.

I'm the same way Melissa with the meds. I have my everyday preventative migraine meds, plus my "if i think a migraine is coming on", plus the "my migraine is here" and finally, "my migraine won't go away". plus the usually tylenol, midol, and pepto. That's what i carry everyday in my purse. so of course i'm going to take it to.

Since everyone is packing, I thought I'd chime in with a few things I've found useful on past cruises, not original ideas but things I found on the Cruise Critic site. The two things I really liked having last time were highlighters (to mark the activities we wanted to do on our Navigators) and post it's (used to leave each other or our steward notes on the mirrors). I also picked up some anti bacterial hand sanitizer that I made the kids use before every meal. We found they had a dispenser in the buffet lines but it did come in handy on the plane and in ports. Best news was no one got sick last time. Last thing was something my pediatrician told us and that was to give the kids Benadryl before the flight. It was to prevent them from getting the sniffles they always somehow get after a long flight. I don't know if it's the air conditioning or what but my kids always have runny noses for a few days after flying. The other nice thing about the Benadryl was that it made my 4 year old a little sleepy. Needless to say this was the most plesant flight thus far with him.
Good luck to all you packers out there and safe flight to Cass.

Lilmamadee, one item we found to be a valuable piece is the vinal shoe bags that hang on the back of a door, it has pockets, about 5 across and about 7 rows, we hand this on the back of the bathroom door and put all our meds, shaving needs, sun tan oil, etc. all the little needs that take up counter space.

Mrs. Abuboo, you can have two checked pieces of luggage plus one "day bag" or carryon and one purse or briefcase per person. :)

I love all the items everyone mentioned so far, since my first DCL I hardly ever travel without my over the door shoe holder. I also like to bring a pop up hamper to keep the dirty clothes organized and a plastic "accordion" file -- outbound it holds docs, passports, birth certificates, hotel ressies, etc., and during the cruise it collects pictures, menus, Navigators, etc. and keeps them all together, organized, accessible and flat (no bent photos).

Alright! We are all packed up and almost ready to go! Just wanted to wish everyone a safe flight/drive down to Florida!! Thanks to all of you who posted on this thread over the last several months, the countdown has been almost bearable being able to share the excitement with all of you these past few months :earboy2:

We just might run into a few of you at MNSSHP on the 20th, if not, we will see ya at the Mickey pool at 3pm 11 days from now! :cool1:

pdarrah, thanks for taking all that time to make and update the website!

scrapperjill, thanks for making our DIS buttons!! :Pinkbounc

BIG HUGS GOOD-BYE!!! :grouphug:

Cass--

Hope you have a fun and safe trip down! Have a really great time before we see you on the Magic!

I think we are so busy with the packing and chores that we're not on the board as much! DH feels that we must clean & organize everything in the house before we go. We also have to take care of the end-of-season stuff out in the yard. The odds are pretty high that we'll have a hard frost or freeze while we are gone, so the last of the tomatoes need to be picked (& do something with them!) and any plants that DH has in his planters that he wants to bring in for the winter need to be handled. We leave 1 week from tomorrow night and I still have a VERY long to-do list :rolleyes1
