"YoHo YoHo a Slackers Cruise for Me

Next off to DLP and the 6/27 Med Cruise
Then 8/17/08 Slackers Repo Cruise, None of this Captain Jack *@#% for me"

Morning all seeing all hearing IT lady, why have i got grey blocks on my pictures please?....No confusioning answers,am thick don't forget:rolleyes1

One thing I forgot to mention about the books - if you look at the spine of each one, at the top it will read "Year 1" "Year 2" etc... and that will also help you remember in which order to read them. If you tried to go out of order you'd end up horribly confused because each book in the series builds upon the previous ones.

As for the age appropriateness of the books themselves, I think that's a great question that's very difficult to answer. As the series progresses it does get much darker and there are things that happened that bothered me to a certain extent, of course we all know that I am incredibly sensitive (:lmao: ) but still... each child is different and I would hate to tell you that it's OK for Ellis since I really don't know what kinds of things might upset or scare him.

I do think with the first two books you will be fine, and probably even the third book won't present much of a problem. But by the end of book four there are some pretty disturbing things that take place - I think you might be better off reading them yourself first and then deciding what you think Ellis can handle.

I bought the first 6 books for my neice last summer when she was 8, but I made sure my SIL read the last two books in the series first because I was really concerned about the impact some of the character deaths and a few other scenes might have on her. I guess it shows that I'm not a parent because my SIL read it all, never flinched, and then handed the books off to my neice who read them without turning a hair.

Me...I read Half Blood Prince (which was great, by the way) and bawled like a baby during the last two chapters.

But like I said...I'm much more sensitive about these things than most people...:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I do think that by reading the books to him you will be better able to handle any fears or concerns that he might have. I think he'll really enjoy them - my neighbor was reading them to her son a few years ago when book 5 was released (I think he was about 8 at the time) and he just loved it. My neighbor told me that she and her son would talk about each chapter and try to figure out what would happen next - they only did one chapter per night to drag out the suspense.

Thanks Brenda - I will read them first - I tend to change things slightly if I think it would be a bit scarey for him - especially just before bed - we dont want bad dreams waking Mommy up - she only gets about 4 hours anyway:rolleyes1

Karen, good luck with the solicitor. I know that's similar to a lawyer, so you'll need extra dust stuff to make things go your way. pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: (one for each Potter book).

Thanks Brenda:hug:

Karen, good luck with the solicitor, what a huge pain huh?

Kira got her first tooth on Thursday, I was ridiculously happy that morning, doing a silly little dance :dancer: and squealing :lmao:
And this morning I looked and she got tooth number TWO!!!

Oh how adorable - piccies please! - we all want to see those to little toothypegs!

I couldn't do that - I pick up the book at midnight when it's released and stay up all night reading to finish it. Then I take a nap and re-read so that by the end of the weekend I've already gone through it twice.

I'm a geek, but I'm comfortable with that. ;)

I agree totally about the books.....you can definately see a writing difference when she writes Book 4. By then she was getting famous and had much better editors and was being encouraged to go darker. I think an 8 year old should be able to handle the first 3 without concern.

I cried at the end of book 5 and 6 as well. They are very emotional. I was at my son's hockey practice reading the ending of Book 6 and was sitting there in the arena crying like a baby - but i couldnt stop reading.
I also cry at the ending of the 4th Movie (and I have seen it at least 5 times).

I am just in the middle of re-reading book 5 in preparation for the Movie that is out in early July.

I cried at the end of book 4, book 5, and book 6. Even now, after having re-read them all numerous times I still get teary.

I started re-reading them all last week - am in the middle of Chamber of Secrets right now.

I wish you all lived closer to Jay and me so that you could come to our Harry Potter release party next month. :goodvibes

:lmao: I'll probably loose though, I'm the slowest crab cracker! We go to a place called "Joe's Crab Shack" (they have the most wonderful BBQ crab legs!) Everyone is always waiting on me to finish.

Steve the best thing about the crab legs at Palo brunch is that they are already cracked and split open for you!!! No need to struggle and crack them on your own!! All you have to do is "scoop" them out of their "shell" and enjoy! They are so delicious!!!!!!!

Ok since we are all talking about food. Can the kids order of the adult menus at dinner?

Yes Carrie the kids can order off the adult menus. Sometimes Rachel has done a combination from the kids and adult menu, getting an appetizer and dessert from the adult menu and her entree from the kids menu.

Sorry guys, just jumping in. been off line for a day or so.

Happy Birthday to Nancys DD Kristin ! :thumbsup2

Elouise had a fab party, but sadly there was an incident at school on Friday where a boy ( who we have had issues with before) put a skipping rope in elouises mouth and tied her to a tree. ! Im very upset about this and elouise had a nightmare Sat night and wet the bed ( which was was soooo upset and embarassed about ) I saw the head today, who basically said no one saw the incident... Hello yes 2 other kids at least have said they saw it , but have you asked them NO!

Wayne and I have insisted we have an appointment at 2pm today to sit and get the facts. Im so upset as elouises cried for the first time about going to school today, and I felt so mean making her go. This boy has some learning problems i think, he is very very bright, but cant actually paly nicely ( the punches bites spits etc) I feel for him and his parents, however Elouises safety at school has to be the main priority for me.

Please send me so pixie dust, im so uptight I feel sick right now.

PS thanks for letting me share with you X

Explanation please Chris. The jetlag has really got me this time.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes for Kristin. I'll pass them on.

Well, the passport issue continues. Tony called the passport office this morning and after 5 tries got through only to be told the database is down and to call back in 30 minutes.

He tried again and got "Miss I don't want to help you on a Monday". Everytime he told her something she just kept repeating that he'll have to apply again because nothing was found. He asked her about the check they cashed and she said he'd have to pay again. Huh?? Another helpful government employee just "doing her job".

He'll have to try and try again. We may be making a road trip to Chicago FRB to get to the bottom of everything.
