October 2013 - Car Rental

Just reserved through Alamo website with Insiders and BJ's coupon for free upgrade. Pick-up MCO; Oct. 4, 11:00 AM, Return Oct. 12, 4:00 PM $197.63 for Standard. This is the best I've found. Many of the '$off' coupons have reached capacity and are not available. I'll keep checking.

I booked through Alamo insiders for Sept 28-oct 13 for $346 for a standard size. I'll try to keep improving on it, but its better than anything else I see now. I know the week before I go there will be better deals!

Just booked a minivan with Thrifty from Oct 12 - Oct 19 for $254.15 + taxes/fees = $334.88. Same rate whether using AAA or the "hot deals" offer (Promo #736) on the site. Costo Travel was similar for Thrifty at $349.45. Any suggestions for codes/companies to get the rate lower? Hertz, Enterprise were much higher.

Good catch! Just double-checked and it was Alamo which was the lowest of the Costco options. Our party of seven (2 adults, 2 grandparents, 7,4, and 11-month old) is arriving on two different flights and then staying at WDW Swan for seven nights where parking is $15/day. I suppose another option would be to get a one-way Alamo rental for the 12th so the earlier flight can pick up groceries, check in, pick up 2nd group and then return the van at Disney (if allowed). We leave at similar times on Oct 19th so maybe another one-way rental or shuttle for the return? Would not have car to drive within Disney or anywhere else during the week but might be okay. Any suggestions/experiences?

If you won't be utilizing the van onsite & don't want to pay for parking, it's likely less expensive to just rent the van for the arrival & departure day vs a week.

you could rent @ MCO, pick up ur groceries en route then either unload guests/groceries @ Swan (or just double back to pick up the later flight guests depending on their arrival time) then drop car @ swan/dolphin.

If the hotel site is expensive for trip back to MCO, try car care center or any of the other rental company sites (i.e. downtown Disney area).

A one-way Alamo rental from MCO-Swan on Oct. 12th was $57.31 inc. tax using Costco rate. For our Oct. 19th return Swan-MCO was $138.92 or $101.86 from WDW Car Center-MCO. Since our return flights are closer together all 7 of us can take Mears Transportation 8-passenger van for $67 flat rate. Thanks for the suggestions.

Still sitting on the Alamo Insiders rate of $176.xx for full size (all-in) for 8 days Oct. 5-12. How is everyone else doing?

Is that with all of the fees? I got a much higher price using the insiders rate. So far the best that I have come up with is 246 (including fees) from dollar.

Yes, it's with all the fees! I booked it July 20th...must have hit a sweet spot that day, because I have yet to see anything from Alamo that low again. I used insider login and amex one class upgrade coupon AU3ZZ2SDE (thanks kieshashadow!).

Thought I'd throw this out there. I reserved a minivan from Dollar for Oct. 26-30 for $225. I was messing around on orbitz and checked rates again. They gave me a Firefly car rental of $158.80 for the same. I asked about Firefly on this board (See other thread) and found out it is a new discount agency belonging to Hertz. It is on site (no shuttle) and apparently is using Hertz's cars. Hasn't opened yet, due to open Sept. 15th. http://www.fireflycarrental.com
See what you come up with for your October rental. I tried all the Hertz CDP codes and coupons (from Mousesavers) and the rate didn't change.

Hope this helps someone. I can't vouch for the company as I just found out about them but it is Hertz.

Thanks for the info. I currently have a mini van at Dollar for 4 days using AAA discount total is $198. At Firefly it is $177. So $20 cheaper. I will be waiting to read the reviews of anyone who uses this company before October.

Thanks or the info. :thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing! My best rate was through Costco at $171 for October 20-25. And with Firefly, those same dates were just $97! :dance3: Happy Monday!

I just booked Firefly for Oct 13-20. Got a compact for $114 including taxes. I called the 800-777-5500 number on their web site and got Advantage car rental. Advantage is off site not in the terminal. How do any of you know that it will be in the terminal? I do not want to use a shuttle.

I have been holding a Costco/Budget reservation - October 5 - 12. Wasn't looking forward to the taxi ride over to the offsite pick-up location, but even with taxi rate was $100 less than in-terminal.

Checked Costco again this morning - and rebooked!

Budget - Intermediate (ie Dodge Avenger) - all in @ $140! :cheer2:

If you have a Costco membership - it's worth a try. The site says it's using a $35 off and (up to) 30%.
