October 2013 - Car Rental

Alamo finally dropped for my dates:cool1: using insider login and amex one class upgrade coupon AU3ZZ2SDE (the only one I could get to work that wasn't capacity controlled).

Eight days beginning 10/5, booked midsize (standard/fullsize via upgrade coupon) under $170...beats the national rate I had approx. $240.

Thank you so much! I just booked a car for my sister for $176.xx all-in for Oct 5-12. I have never done a rental car reservation before...do you need to pay with an American Express card for this deal. Is that what the Amex coupon code is for? I don't think she has an American Express card....

When I first looked at rentals for Oct 22-28, I got $630 for Alamo and $660 for Hertz. I booked Hertz today for $277.48 including taxes, etc. If I hadn't been reading all the suggestions, I would have never gotten a decent price. This is not really low, but it is for a compact, gives me Southwest points, it is not prepaid, and I have had good luck with Hertz in the past. I may look again a month before the trip, but all the advice has been great. I ended up using the Mousesavers Hertz link on their website CDP 2002500.

the upgrade coupon is really a 'non-event' saves a few bucks at best typically, but something is better than nothing. Many of the better coupons u can find here & on mousesavers, etc. aren't valid for my particular dates via capacity controls.

as far as I know u don't need to use an AMEX card YMMV. Note that I used it as a placeholder of sorts & will modify the reservation via a substitution with whatever coupon Alamo is offering on their website for that time period. they typically email info if ur signed up for deals each month for at least an upgrade.

As long as u didn't prepay u can keep checking for better deals, modify the reservation & remove the coupon before the rental commences if u have concerns.

fyi, I typically find my best rate approx. two months prior to a rental in MCO area, will be checking often the next few weeks;)

can u please tell me what contract code u are using?? i am logging in as an insider but the contract id field remains blank and my rate for oct 12 to 19 is $272. thanks!!

i tried contract id 7015135 and it stayed at $272. maybe because my travel dates are a week later than yours???:confused3

could be, I didn't input the code, just signed in to insiders. I noticed for trip last month when I did try it, the rates were higher.

make sure u clear ur cookies

Dollar has dropped their price TWICE today.....10/19 to 10/26 at less than 21/day with all fees. I logged in with NO coupons or car selection...only dates, then clicked on "city special" when all prices for all cars came up. Dodge Avenger....I am sure it will go back up within a couple of hours.

Still no luck with our rental for 10/25 to Nov 4th. Out of Tampa. I just checked rates again today. Nothing is blew 420.00 I even saw a minivan rental for 1,000! Who on earth would pay that. I am hoping that prices will fall come Sept.

With Alamo mine is down from around $400 for a mid-size car for Oct 19-26 to $266 (insiders discount only). This is out of Tampa. With National using the KLM code (I did sign up) the pricing is $248 for a mid-size SUV. Last trip I received the cheapest rate with Alamo 2 weeks prior to the trip @ $96 for the week out of Olando (May 2012).

Thank you for the info! My sister is pleased with the $176.xx all-in (technically for eight days) full size with Alamo. Of course, if I can get it lower that would be icing on the cake!! I'll keep checking her dates and keep a close eye on this thread....:goodvibes

Thanks for all the great information. I just reserved our car with National using the KLM code (have used it before and did join years ago).

Reservation is for Oct. 12 (12 AM pickup) to Oct. 19 (9 AM drop off). We have a midsize for $251.71.

My question is that we are Emerald Club members and the rental said "Aisle Eligible" when I was going through it and the final confirmation says "Midsize" but then pick up says "Aisle & Executive Service". Does this mean that we can pick from whatever is available on the aisle or are they no longer doing it this way?

Thanks!
Jen

Looking for a car rental Oct 7 to 11, 2013 from a location close to Pop Century since I will likely be cabbing it. Either that or is there a company that will come to me? This will be our first time renting a car in Florida. Any advice would be appreciated.

Alamo on Disney by MK will pick you up at your resort. I have used them before with good results.

Are you flying into Orlando airport?

We are flying into Orlando airport but we want to rent a car for only a few days in the middle of our 2 week stay.

Pick up car at airport Alamo drop off at car center by MK. Go home airport ME. That's my plan in oct.

Finally got our flights all booked so now the REAL rental car quest begins! Problem is we are flying into TPA and out of MCO. Right now, everything is pretty high. Just booked a Budget standard thru Costco for 10/18-10/28 for $350. Hoping for a much better price closer to our trip. I guess $35/day isn't horrible but I've done much better in the past. But that was picking up/dropping off at the same airport.

Just pulled the trigger on a dollar rent a car deal for an compact car on their site. It was a city special oct 18 to 25th 138 plus taxes 199 all in pick up at MCO. I was going for a costco deal for 185 and the prices shot up to 396 today crazy :crazy2:

Checked this morning on Costco Travel and Budget rates had changed. :thumbsup2

Pick up TPA, drop off MCO
10/18-10/28 $287 Full size
Costco

The standard and full size were CHEAPER than the intermediate and economy. At least, right now...
Keep checking!:surfweb:

Booking via Hotwire... just using the standard reservation, not a prepay... got a Premium at Dollar for $26/day - no codes, no nothin'. About $250 for a week's rental. Then tried the Dollar site directly and got the same specs for $238 total. 12 bucks is 12 bucks, right?
