***October 2012 Thread*** MNSSHP + Food & Wine - Does It Get Any Better?

:: pops head in :: Hello. I know I posted early in this thread, but haven't really been on DIS much since my trip last summer. I'm ready to start planning already, but I can't book until March for a DVC resort :( I'm kind of in limbo right now. It's frustrating to me, as this is our first year owning DVC and if we were staying at a hotel I would have booked already.

Our dates are going to be (tentatively) 10/6 - 10/13. 7 nights, 8 days and we're hoping to either stay at AKL or Old Key West. I'm told it should be no problem to get either of those resorts. We'll pretty much stay at any WDW resort and don't mind the busses, so we'll be fine.

Definitely want to go to a MNSSHP. We did it once before and loved it. We're really looking forward to doing it again. Not going to go for the dining plan this time, becuase we are going to try to go again in August of 2013, so probably going to get an AP. I think that will be our cheapest option at this point.

The only 2 things this trip totally hinges on is a) that my husband doesn't get demoted, because our county is broke and has been demoting/laying off people. He's been there too long for a layoff, but they've been demoting trying to save money, too. And b) there won't be a problem with school. I don't think there will be. I have to see how some meetings in March go, but everything should be fine.

So, there it is. Not much of a plan, but it's a start. I'm just counting the days til March right now, so I can book something!:goodvibes

I got curious and thought I would check out those airlines that have their schedules for Oct out already. YIKES!!:scared1: Those prices put a vacation to WDW out of our budget! At $250 - $300 per ticket we can wait patiently for either Southwest (who we love) or even JetBlue (who we haven't flown with before) to publish theirs and then depending on what they have out on the first day we might wait for a seat sale...they ALWAYS have a seat sale at some point. We fly out of Buffalo and we always get stuck with connections with the "big" airlines. Not a big deal if the price is right...but with Southwest your bags are free and you get direct flights. We just got back last week and had to fly indirect...I hope never to do that again...very tiring.

There's only 4 of us that I would be paying airfare for, but still even $200 each is excessive to me when you consider that we will have to rent a SUV or van once we're there. *We will be there 8 days with a total of 6 in the party. So, rental fee + airlines tickets = way more than just driving our own car (even considering the elaborate calculations of wear and tear and mileage etc). With our own car, we can head straight to the resort and then DH can go to MCO to pick up DMiL and DGM while the kids and I relax at the pool :rotfl: And DMiL and DGM won't be getting out much, so no worries about cramming us all together in one car during that week! But if we all flew in together, we'd have to get 6 of us from and back to the airport, ie the SUV or van. I'm babbling at this point. :lmao:

Unfortunately, I have to cancel my trip :( I live with my parents and my father has decided to tell me that if I take my trip, I should just stay down there and not plan on coming home, as I wouldn't be welcome in the house anymore. So no Disney this year for me.

Take us off the list too, we're still doing the cruise in November but we aren't doing any park time before hand. We're going to save that money and go back in December for our anniversary and then again some time early next year for my 30th birthday!

Sidenote: I have a brand new job that requires that I get past my 6 month probationary period before using my vaca. I'm so torn about whther I should be nice to the scheduling person and let them know NOW, or if I should wait until it's a bit closer so it doesn't look like I'm "that girl!" :rotfl:

I would tell them asap just so you don't catch them by surprise. No harm in letting them know you already have something planned!

If you're a DVC member, can't you book 11 months out for your home resort? Or are you booking at a different resort? Either way, good luck getting what you want! I think the only resorts that may have an availability issues would be BCV and BWV because of food & wine.

I looooove JetBlue. First bag is free, unlimited free snacks, and free Directv. They rock! I don't know if they fly direct out of Buffalo though. You may have to connect in JFK. I'm impatiently awaiting their fares. I'd much rather fly with them than Continental. If the price is right, SW may be an option too, but I'd have to fly from Philly which is about 90 minutes from here. Decisions, decisions!

Sorry to hear you're both cancelling :(

YAY! :woohoo::banana::cheer2: And as far as I can see on the website for Disney the Wishes Desert Party is still available.

So Excited. My guy and I are off to WDW from October 21 until November 2. This is our 2nd time to WDW, and we're already planning a third time when Fantasyland is finished and we can stay at AoA. Oh, and a 4th trip when Avatarland is done.

Our Travel Agent has gotten our deposit, and we've got 272 days to go. Our Travel Folder/File has been started. I've done most of our vacation paperwork, printed the tip & Mousekeeping envelopes, printed the DDP punch card and made the schedule. We've already decided our ADRs! We will be staying at POFQ only because Art of Animation single rooms aren't expected to be open then.

Our first trip in May 2011 ("The 7 year Stitch", in honor of our 7th anniversary), was to see what the hubbub of WDW was all about, and we were hooked within 2 seconds of showing up. This trip is about doing all the cool stuff we missed! In spite of being in the parks for 10 days and at the resort for 12, it will be an absolute marathon for us - hence the name Mousepocalypse 2012 - because we're expecting to explode by the time we're done! Yeah...we also wanted to goof on the 2012 apocalypse theme as well. If the world is gonna blow up, I want to go to WDW again before it happens.

We are planning the following, on top of everything else:
  • DDP / TS every night
  • Dine with an Imagineer
  • Food & Wine Festival (and noshing the whole time!)
  • Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party (and everything that goes with it)
  • Fantasmic
  • Illuminations
  • Fireworks stuff (Wishes, etc.)
  • Eleventybillion times on Star Tours II
  • Spirit of Aloha
  • 1/2 day at the Boardwalk (when we arrive)
  • 1 day at Downtown Disney (we didn't get to do that last time)

Just writing that out makes me tired! LOL Now, I'm just looking for PINs, or discounts or codes or whatever I can to see if we can save a few pennies. We've been saving for this trip since before we went on our last trip, but every penny saved means ol' Wookiepants can get some more Star Wars swag. LOL

Hope to see you all there!

Need some advice from the more experienced DISers out there.....we are going the first week of October. We got a 30% off code for any resorts, which we will use if free dining isn't offered this year. We have only been 1 time and we bought DVC points and stayed at AKL-Kidani village, which was awesome, but we hardly spent any time there, basically just to sleep. We want to try and spend less $$ this trip, so are looking at the value resorts. Which ones are your favorite and why, would you recommend it? :confused3 Need your advice asap, as we have to book by Feb 9 according to the offer we received. TIA :goodvibes
