***October 2012 Thread*** MNSSHP + Food & Wine - Does It Get Any Better?

Woohoo!! Now you get there the same day as Jenny and I! :cool1:

Where are you staying?

We will still be staying at POR in one of the Royal Rooms. YAY!! Maybe DH won't end up on the floor this time since we will have a bigger bed!

Hi everyone!

Can't wait to go back for an October trip, last time was in 2008 and we adored the Food & Wine festival.. this will be our first time to MNSSHP too, we loved MVMCP so know we'll like the Halloween one too!

Looking forward to planning along with you all :goodvibes

Welcome! I think the Boardwalk resort is beautiful...but that clown pool freaks me out.

Just booked our trip for next year. Staying at POFQ from sept. 28- oct. 6.

Welcome! You'll be there the same time as me & Heather!

Oooooh I am so jealous! I am seriously considering a switch over to POR in a Royal Room. But debating if my boys would care too much for it. It doesn't look overly girly and I know my daughter would LOVE it! :confused3

I am so excited to find this thread. My DH and I are planning to FINALLY enjoy the Food & Wine in 2012. Both kids will be in college and we can finally travel during that time. We have more than 25 WDW trips under our belt, but never during this time, so we need all the knowledge we can get to plan our trip. We are so excited!

Welcome! October is an awesome time to visit. It's not too crowded, MK is decorated for Halloween, and the Food & Wine Festival is yummy! Plus they offer concerts during the festival too. I saw Sugar Ray last year. That was a blast from my teenage past lol.

:yay: Yay!! Welcome! I've never been to F&W before so I'm excited to go as well!! I hope your planning goes well!! I can't wait to start making ADR's lol!:rotfl:

Wow! I already feel so welcome! Thanks! We would love to hear about anyone's experiences during F&W. Did you do any of the special experiences? Were they worth it? We just have to figure out when our DS's fall breaks will be next year and then pick our dates and book. Woohoo! Our kids used to be in year round schools so we could travel during "off-peak" times which we loved, but the last 7 they have been in high school so it's been mostly summer trips (HOT) and Christmas & Easter-crazy crowded. Hoping to stay at BWV or BCV, as I'm sure lots of other folks are.:)

I know it'll be 80 degree weather when we're there but lemme just tell you both - head for that Canadian F&W cart. Cheddar cheese soup? To die for! Yum!

I've never done any of the special experiences. I like making my way around the carts and eating & drinking 'around the world.' You can buy passports to get stamped in every country & there are little wristlet gift cards that make F&W purchases very easy!

Good luck getting a room at BWV or BCV! We're renting points and are staying at AKV. We got a room no problem :)

Thank you everyone for the kind welcomes! :goodvibes

Hi! Nice to 'see' you here too :cutie: -I'm am good thank you.. had a fabulous trip last December.. then got married and went again for honeymoon, magical trip :cloud9: hehe

Welcome! I think the Boardwalk resort is beautiful...but that clown pool freaks me out.

Hehe! It is a funny choice for a pool slide... on our trip in 2006 we had a room on the ground floor which overlooked the pool and directly at the slide! - turned out we'd been given the wrong room though and got moved lol.

Just been on the phone to DVC and.... WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!! :yay:

October 7th at the Boardwalk for 7 nights.. I'm beyond excited! :woohoo:

:scared1: That would have given me nightmares! What do they call that view? 'Trauma View?'

Woohoo! :woohoo:

Heather, when we looked at the rooms, they really don't look "girly" at all. DS even agreed from the pictures and he is looking forward to having a queen sized bed all to himself!

When first looking into traveling for Disney, I was really loving the Boardwalk. Will dine at Kouzzina and Flying Fish, so wish we would stay there. But I agree, that Clown Pool freaked me out! Reminds me of the movie It! Okay. I'm dating myself now.

We will stay at the Contemporary, but hoping to get some tips on getting from the Contemporary to Flying Fish and Kouzzina, which we'll hopefully get ADRs for dinner.

Also hoping to do a Fireworks Cruise, since husband loves fireworks, and we both love being out on a boat. Seems like a perfect combination.

Would love to hear any info about booking those, when and where they take place.

We'll be there Oct 6 through 14, celebrating our 30th anniversary.

I'm really hoping The Orchestra will be at Eat to the Beat during that time. ELO was one of our favorite bands growing up. Looking forward to Animal Kingdom and Food and Wine and Fantastic and so much more!

Looking forward to sharing tips and advise and warnings with my fellow October 2012 travelers!

Me too!! I always think of Pennywise whenever I see that pool. No thank you! Other than that, it's a beautiful resort.

Contemporary is within walking distance of Magic Kingdom. To get from the Contemporary to BW there is no direct way but you can walk to MK and catch one of the buses to BW.

Got to meet my travel agent in person yesterday when I was working in her building, and we talked briefly about discounts that may come up. I'm doing a Magic Your Way package through Triple A, and because of the time we're traveling, I'm only getting a 10 percent discount on my room, Contemporary Main Tower, Magic Kingdom View, and we're doing the Deluxe Dining Plan. I know different discounts come available periodically. I would love to get a better discount on the room. Is 10 percent the best room discount one can get at a Deluxe resort? We'll be there October 6 through 14th, with our anniversary being on the 9th, so the dates are not flexible for us. We do now have the Disney Visa, so hopefully, some discounts will come through that.

Thanks for any tips!

Nope. 40% is the best discount you can get but that only can happen if Disney sends you a pin. I've been told to make sure you have "saved offers" on the Disney site, make some of the personalized maps, order the planning video to help your odds. But don't count on getting one.

free dining should be coming out for next October. I cheked on mousesaver.com and it shows free dining for the last 4 years during that time. That will save you a good bit. They may also release room only discounts and for a deluxe resort usually range from 30% to 35% off.

Hi!

The fireworks cruises are fantastic - highly recommended :thumbsup2

We did the Illuminations cruise in 2009 and the Wishes cruise just this past summer on our honeymoon.

For the Illuminations one, you board the pontoon boat at the Yacht Club Marina - about 1 hour before the fireworks (approx 8pm) - the captain will sail to the Hollywood Studios and then back past the Boardwalk, Yacht & Beach Club - then moor under the bridge in Epcot between the UK & France Pavilions.
The view is breath-taking, I've never seen the show from a better perspective!

For Wishes - you can pick up the pontoon boat at the Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodges, Contemporary Resort or the Polynesian. The captain will sail over to Bay Lake, around the (now extinct) Discovery Island and River Country.. then you stop to see the Electrical Water Pageant, before heading back to Seven Seas Lagoon to watch Wishes... again, an amazing view!

You can watch some short videos I took of the two here if you'd like to see the views..

Illuminations

Electrical Water Pageant from Bay Lake

Wishes - finale

The pontoon boats are about $300 to hire, for up to 10 guests.. the price includes a captain, cans of soda & snacks (chips, pretzels). You can arrange with private dining to have other beverages and food brought onboard.. we had 2 glasses of champagne & chocolate-dipped strawberries on our Wishes cruise :cloud9:
You call 407-WDW-PLAY to book these, up to 180 days in advance.

Love these cruises, perfect for a special event!! If it's a birthday or anniversary, the captain can put streamers, banners & balloons on the boat too :wizard:
