October 2011...Who's all going? Vacation dates and lodging

boiseflyfisher, I've added your dates tot he first post.

Sounds like a great trip with fours days at DLR and then onto to a Disney Cruise. What fun! I keep telling myself that one day I'll get myself and my family on a Disney cruise, but something always gets in the way. Looks like it might be volleyball in the coming years. DD(13) plans on playing on the girls team in HS and also plays club. There goes my WHOLE year! I still have a year until that happens. Maybe next summer.... hmmm.

The list has grown so much since last time I checked!

I have to start thinking about costumes. DD loves Monster's Inc and a Boo costume should be easy. I am looking for shirts that look like Mike (me) and Sully (DH) - not easy since I don't want a shirt with the character on it, just Sully's fur and Mike's eye :thumbsup2
If not Monster's Inc then I am out of ideas - good thing we have time!

tzeitel, I noticed that the list has grown, too! October is becoming a favorite time of the year to visit DLR.

Costumes! I haven't even thought about that yet, and I can't sew. DD(15) made DD(13)'s costume last year. She went all Project Runway on me and decided to sew something for her younger sister. I figured anything where they will work together and cooperate is fine by me. It so rarely happens! ;) I wonder if they will do the same this year.

As for me, I'm thinking I should do something other than my usual MNSSHP t-shirt this year. I have lost 25 pounds, so this could be a good year to try something daring and different and wear a modest costume. Got time to think about it.

I just booked our room for The Villas @ Grand Californian on Friday at the 7 month window. I was excited to get one of the last 3 1BR for October 4-8.

We will be visiting family in San Diego and then making my very first DLR trip later in the week. We visited So Cal a few years ago for the Rose Bowl, but this is really our first vacation trip to the area. I am sure I will have plenty of questions!

Liza - congrats on the weight loss! I am working on that myself ;) You should do a costume, you worked hard to lose it now show it off :thumbsup2:

I am just thinking of going the shirt route since DH will not play nice and wear one. And I cannot sew a button so it will have to be store bought - good for your DD getting all creative, it must have been fun for her to make an outfit especially at Halloween. Maybe she will make one for you this year.

I sent an email off suggesting a parade for the Halloween party to rival Boo To You. I think that's the only thing missing from a DL Halloween party. I also stated how great it would be to have a Halloween "overlay" on WOC.

Doesn't hurt to ask!

Of course I'm a big fan of the Halloween parties. I think they are well worth the admission. We plan to go to a weekday party this year, in hopes of smaller crowds. Even the Friday party last year, while crowded, was totally doable.

We are going as the seven dwarves this year. I'm just getting the appropriate color shirts, adding the names and making hats. I key word is comfort for my family. It's sad to see my daughters age out of their princess dresses, but it ends the worry of them getting caught on rides or tripping.

There is going to be an eventual WoC overlay for both Halloween and Christmas. When WoC first debuted, the people behind it/Imagineers said that it's already pretty much programmed to switch to Halloween and/or Christmas overlays.

Same thing for Toy Story Midway Mania - Mr. Potato Head is already programmed with Halloween-related dialogue and Christmas songs.

And then there is the rumor of the Candlelight Processional moving over to DCA and out of DL.

It's just all a matter of when DLR will decide to roll out these changes. My guess is that it will not be before all the major work in DCA is complete. Since there were almost no traces of Halloween in DCA last year at all - literally, all traces that had been there in 2007 - 2009 were gone - they will have to once again get to a point where they can include DCA in the Halloween festivities and put up some decorations, and then run the WoC and/or TSMM overlays as part of the overall seasonal celebration.

That definitely would not be this year, I'm sure. I wish it were going to be this year, but I just don't see how it would be possible yet unless they are way ahead of schedule with the construction.

One CM I spoke to at length in December was saying that the Disney VIP's and people at TDA do, indeed, pay attention to message boards and surveys and things like that to get a sense of what the public wants. He said they received tons of complaints about Candy Corn Acres being yanked out of DCA last year. He thinks that after all the work in DCA is finished, they will once again start building up Halloween Time and making more of the Christmas season as well.

Welcome to the October Check In thread. I've added your travel dates to the first post.

:yay: for booking a VGC one bedroom at the 7 month window! I am hoping to do the same with my SSR points later this month. I wanted to use my VGC points for a two bedroom for Christmas week. Christmas is the hard time to book without VGC points. so that left my SSR points for my October trip (which we do every year). Wish me luck! I'm hoping it won't be too difficult.

For more information on the Grand Californian Hotel, I would suggest two threads. The Grand Californian Hotel Superthread is a thread that offers information on the hotel itself like room views, maps, services and dining. You can find it here.

The second thread, The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian offers information on the villas and is a great place to ask questions as DVC member on VGC rooms and locations. You can find that thread here.

There is a lot of the same information that is covered in both threads, but I have found them both useful. Have fun planning!

Thank you, tzeitel. You know how it goes with weight loss. It is a slow and unpredictable progress! I'll keep chugging along, and hope that I can lose 30 more before October. So I'll wait until summer before I even look at costumes. Or maybe, I should look now and get inspired to keep my eating plan in place.

At least the shirt is a comfortable way to go, but dressing up would be fun, too. As a last resort, I could do a cowgirl outfit, since I have everything I need (we have horses and ride western), but that would be too easy. DD(15) doesn't like it when I do that. Thinks it is her thing. Teenagers! I have time to work on her if it comes to that. I really want to look at other alternatives and see what is out there before I turn to the old standby t-shirt and cowgirl look.

Sherry, how awesome would WOC and TSM be with the holiday touches in place. I got lucky last year and was able to see the testing done from my DVC room for the Tron segment for the WOC before it debuted. I can tell you, it wouldn't be difficult to make the holiday changes based on what I saw last October. I can only imagine how exciting a Halloween theme WOC and beautiful and touching a Christmas WOC would be. My guess is that we will have to wait for 2012 at the earliest for those changes. I can't wait for the renovations to be completed.

I would love to see a park(s) wide overlay - it's like going to a completely different DLR :goodvibes

I agree about the cool costume to reward weight loss. Go for it, it's only one (okay, maybe two if do the party one day and then Halloween night) night.
I'm debating. I've so far got three I'm looking at: Alice in Wonderland, a goddess, or Supergirl.

DD has no clue as to what she wants to be, DS is liking Spongebob Squarepants and Spiderman. DH may or maynot be in costume. That's not going to stop me from wearing one, though.

I have updated the first post of this thread to include 2010 DLR park hours for the months of September, October and November. I thought this information might be helpful for planning your DLR trip this fall. Here the links again:

For September 2010 Disneyland Resort Park hours: September 2010 Park Hours

For October 2010 Disneyland Resort Park hours: October 2010 Park Hours

For November 2010 Disneyland Resort Park hours: Novemebr 2010 Park Hours

Happy planning!

I am bringing my daughter for her 45th birthday Oct. 6-12. We are staying at the Best Western. We have done halloween at WDW & MNSSHP 3 times so now we want to check out Disneyland. Haunted Mansion is daughter's favorite ride and she loves Nighmare Before Christmas so that was a major factor in trip planning. I have done WDW 20 times but DL only twice. Daughter has never been to DL. Plan to do dessert seating for Fantasmic on Fri. 10/7; dinner seating for World on Color on 10/8 and the Halloween party on Tues. 10/11.

If I do a costume I want a comfy one - too many childhood memories of itchy Halloween nights ;)

I did just get DH and DD really cool shirts - Unprocessed Soylent Green! It looks like a product label with barcode and everything (extra funny is that someone figured out that the barcode is actually for SPAM). So if they do not want a costume they at least can go as packaged Soylent Green :thumbsup2

You have everything planned out already :worship: I am still trying to decide what/when/how to do everything we want!

Wewill be staying at our home away from home...HOJO! Oct 18-25. It'll be our first time going in Oct., we generally go during the holidays (mid Nov.)

:lmao: :rotfl2: Spam! That's a riot! Ok, so where did you get the shirts from? My DH would get a kick out of that t-shirt. I think he would go for that one.

The NBCHM ride is one of my favorite rides and I think your daughter will love it. Don't forget to check out the cool Nightmare merchandise and t-shirts. Well you can't miss it. There is a whole store deovted to it in NOC. I have the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack I got at DL years ago. I play it every October and drive the kids nuts with it. I keep reminding that that a tleast, they get a break during the rest of the year. Your plans look good, but be careful if DL changes the nights for MHP. You may have to change some things around. We will probably know more in May.

Welcome, Kim to DISboards and the October Check In thread!:cheer2:

We will be at the parks the same time. I'm glad you will be able to visit at the other popular holiday at DLR. Halloween Time is on a much smaller scale than Christmas time, but it definitely can stand on it's own! I think you'll end up lovin' it as much as others and I do on the boards. I love both Holidays and look forward to each every year.

Looks like we may be shuffling our dates some for Halloween....so wrapped up in the wedding on Halloween I missed completely that my original dates would have us there for Columbus Day duh! Have been pow wowing with my DD Kari (the bride) and now I am going to fly to AZ first and then do Disneyland the 11th to the 17th instead and then back to AZ to celebrate the bride's birthday on the 18th in AZ and finish up wedding stuff for the rest of the month.

Hojo for us =) Oct 8-15th. Hotel booked, gotta get the airfare, hopefully next month. Looking forward to Mickey Trick or Treat Party.

Sherri, I have changed your dates. Lots going on in October for you. It should be a fun time and something to look forward to as well.

October peeps -

Thanks to Kim (jernysgirl), we now have the dates for HalloweenTime. She was kind enough to alert us to the dates on the Halloween Superthread.

Can you believe the DLR website has put them up this early? They never, ever announce their Halloween dates this early!! See their page: http://disneyland.disney.go.com/events/halloween-time/.

Anyway, it looks like Friday, September 16 - October 31, 2011 will be the season dates!! They are doing things differently and starting the season even earlier this year than when they normally would start it (this year it's not the last Friday or the next to last Friday, like it normally would be), and they are ending the season on a Monday, which is very rare! Their seasons always end on Sundays.

I'm still guessing that the Halloween party will start on Friday, September 30rd, but at this rate they are switching things up on us so they may do something crazy with that, too!:rotfl2:

I'll keep updating the first post of the Superthread when we get new bits of information in (like press releases and such).
