Two tourists abducted, robbed after leaving Downtown Disney

Couple taken at gunpoint, was left near Osceola landfill after struggle.

Two young tourists from Connecticut were finishing up the first day of their Walt Disney World vacation just after midnight on Sunday when a man in a black car called out to them.

Thinking they were just answering an innocuous question, the couple walked over to the car in the Downtown Disney parking lot.

That is when their vacation turned violent.

At gunpoint, Justin Stetzer and Jessica DellaCamera, both 20, were forced inside the Volkswagen Jetta, driven around and then Stetzer was ordered to withdraw money from an automated-teller machine.

After nearly an hour, the three suspects took Stetzer and DellaCamera to a remote location near an Osceola County landfill, forced them out of the car and beat them.

That is when the couple fought back and the gun discharged during the scuffle, scaring the suspects -- who panicked and fled.

"They just thought they were at the end of the road," Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Solomons of the victims.

Stetzer and DellaCamera, both of North Branford, Conn., walked to a nearby Kissimmee home and called the Osceola County Sheriff's Office. They suffered cuts and bruises but were not seriously injured.

Sunday's incident is the latest in several recent attacks in the tourist area.

On May. 30, two Orange County deputies were shot when they interrupted a car burglary in progress at the Caribe Royale Resort on World Center Drive.

On May. 14, two armed robbers attacked a German couple staying at a Howard Johnson on International Drive. The robbers forced the man onto the floor and threw a blanket over his head. One of them raped the woman and beat her face and head with a weapon after ordering her to empty the room safe.

That same night, a man staying in an extended-stay hotel on Major Boulevard near Universal Orlando� , was robbed by two men who matched the description of the Howard Johnson attackers.

Police are still searching for the suspects in Sunday's attack.

The men were able to leave with both the cash and the purchases the couple left behind. Solomons would not disclose the value of the money and items that were stolen.

Stetzer and DellaCamera arrived in Central Florida on Saturday and were traveling with DellaCamera's parents. They were finishing a shopping trip at Downtown Disney when the incident took place.

Disney spokeswoman Zoraya Suarez declined to say which resort the pair was staying at or how much longer they would remain in Florida. She said that Disney officials were working with the two "to take care of their immediate needs."

Shoppers at Downtown Disney on Sunday afternoon were not shocked at the abduction.

"Nowadays, I think it could happen anywhere," said Kathy Gallardo of Tampa, standing outside Planet Hollywood.

Sandy, I think there is more to the story about the DTD couple thing. Don't know if I'd believe the whole thing, you at DTD with hundreds of people, and you don't run or yell??? I would think your chances of the guys shooting the gun into a huge crowd is pretty low, but I'd take those chances.

Good morning. It was 92 degrees yesterday and is supose to get up to 73 today, it is overcast and sprinkling!!

Chris leaves for FL on Thursday, he is so excited.

Mom - I will take my car down to the campground this weekend so Sable's hair doesn't get all over dad's car.

We are leaving here about 9:30 tomorrow morning to drive to Detroit. Our flight leaves at 2:30 PM. So far, Kaleigh has NO clue! We will pack the car tonight after she goes to SLEEP.

Man, it is just about time for me to go already. I read to Kaleigh from 12-12:30 PM for summer reading then we watch Mr. Rogers together then it is nap time. She already earned her 1st book.

It has been in the upper 70's here but supposed to be in the low 80's starting today. No rain in sight. I wish we could take the no rain part to WDW!

Good Morning

Taking a minute to post before I forget. I have been working on a "Relieving Stress" presentation for a team meeting today. I am also trying to figure out how to make a 9-patch quilt that I plan on teaching my Summer Missionettes in a few weeks. I have never made one but plan on teaching it. Should be interesting! Kind of putting the cart before the horse.

Wow, when you learn....can you teach me!! I think it would be so cool to know how to quilt. I hope you learn better under pressure, I know I usually do.

I am so bummed and upset. Between playing phone tag with the girl from Terrace Gardens, they booked my date. So now I can stay there and change my date or go somewhere else. I can't stop crying, I am so mad, it was my perfect place and perfect date. You would think since I left so many voicemails and messages with people that they would actually save the date for me.

I am so discouraged right now that I don't even want to look at places.

I am doing better today, still upset but no tears!! Chris and Stacey said we should just do it on the Friday June 6th, that way we save $1000 but I am just not sure if out of town guests will want to come Friday because they will have to take off work.

So if you were out of town, would you attend a Friday wedding that starts about 6:00pm? (hint, hint)

Heidi-I am so sorry your original plans did not work out. I think with enough notice your out of town guest would be able to come. I personally like Friday night weddings. EVERYONE has Saturday wedding and they are so common but Friday night weddings to me seem more elegant. SAVE MONEY you say??? SUPER FUN!!!

Bob and Jaymee reached South Carolina safely last night. One of the first stops was Wal-mart to get her some stuff to set up her room. Bob hopefully will be home tomorrow. He is taking her back to Wal-Mart today to get more stuff.

I started my 9 patch quilt last night. So far it is going great. I think I will be able to teach the girls. Once I get this done I will tackle the paperbag scrapbook.

Barb, I think you hit it right for Heidi. I, too, think that Friday weddings are more elegant. Go figure! I said what about Friday and she had a comeback. Everyone else suggests it and it is ok. j/k Heidi. Good to hear that Jaymee and Bob made it. How sweet of Bob to drive!

I guess I will go with June 6th 2007...so read and remember: KEEP June 6th open now NOT June 7th!!!! I am still stuck on the date 6/7/8 but I guess I will get over it sometime!! I love the place and it is so convenient so I guess I will save $$, keep the place and change the date. Thanks for making me feel better everyone.
