October 17, 2009 Western

We are from the San Francisco Bay Area. I just looked online to see how long our flight would be. Looks like if it is non-stop, it will be 5 hours and 15 minutes. I am letting Disney book my airfare, so I don't know if my flight will be non-stop or not. Shoot, I could go to Hawaii in that amount of time...this cruise better be good! (I am sure it will be.) This is the reason I have never been to WDW, though. After making the 14 hour flight to Australia last year, I should be able to tolerate anything, right? I just get restless sometimes on planes. I am always so anxious to get where I am going...either on to my terrific vacation or to get back home to get on with my life afterwards.

We are from Granite Bay, it's about 20mi NE of Sacramento, CA. I'm also not looking forward to the long flight. I plan on bringing a few DVDs, coloring books, snacks. We do have a few layovers which I normally dislike, but it will be a welcome break to get off the plan and stretch with the kids.

Regarding my easter eggs, I don't know where they were hidden because my kids found them, but one was shaped to look like a rock, so I guess the disguise did the trick!

I'm a little leary about leaving my kids on the boat while we go onshore, but maybe by Cozumel I'll feel more comfortable with the kids club, etc....

Beansf - Not sure if there is any red-eye's any more, but that is what DCL put us on the last time (1999) we went on the DCL. Otherwise they will fly you the day before and put you up in the Hyatt. That is where we will be staying the night before. I had my first job out of college in the bay area (also did my internships there). Moved out when DH wanted to go back to school and couldn't afford to live on one salary. That is how we ended up in Arizona

OMG:thumbsup2 I grew up in Granite Bay :woohoo: It is a small world. Well it wasn't call Granite Bay when I was there, because our address was Roseville at that time. But only lived a few miles from the Lake. Near Barton Road off Douglas Boulvard, if any of those ring a bell. Now I have been away from there for a quite a few years, but lived there for the first 17 years of my life. I am planning on going back at the end of June for HS renuion.

Just wondering where everyone is from? I haven't made it through all the previous posting yet, so just point me back if this questions was asked already.:rolleyes1

Who is coming the furthest? Wendy and Sue look like they are both from the UK

Who lives near the port?

I am from Arizona, not that far, but when flying it takes all day to get to Florida.

Anyone else from the desert? We are starting to heat up now, ready to find someplace cool to vist for the summer.

Laura

We are coming from Calgary AB Canada!
We have booked our flights and coming in on Oct 14th....because Mommy really wants to make MNSSHP on the 15th....LOL:confused3

Another thought too.... By cruising time I will have a DS7.5 DS5 and DD2
I have heard some DISers say their kids have emailed a little bit before the cruise...sharing pics and such. MY DS's would love to do this, they dont have an email address or anything, but it might be fun to make one up and then I could check it periodically with them to see if any other DIS kids had emailed??
If anyone has any children that might want to be involved I could take the responsibilty of making a master list and PMing to everyone!

Kimberlee - I realized I spelled your name incorrectly before sorry.
DD who will be 7.5 as well is interested in emailing or having a pen pal. Thanks for organizing that.

Have been thinking about a name. Maybe someone can enhance upon this... to give it more a cruise flavor.

DIScovering the Magic with Mickey

Kimberlee...
My DD would love to be a part of the email/pen pal thing before the trip! She will be 8 on the cruise (turning 9 a few weeks later on November 14).

And although my DS who is 5 probably won't be able to do much with the email stuff he would love to see pictures of the other kids around his age.

If I can figure out how to add a picture into my signature I will...the one for my avatar is pretty small!!

Thats great! Both my DS's will do this together, as the 5 year old is a little small. My DS7 doesnt really know the whole email process yet, but I will help them make a "Disney" email address and I'll help them along!
Maybe you both could send me the childrens emails to my message box, that way the kids email address wont be floating around public message boards!:thumbsup2
If anyone else wants to get involved just let me know....Whenever I have an updated email address for someone I will send it out in a PM!

I like the use of DIS in the name too. What if we just went with DIScovering the Magic?

or DIScovering Mickey's Magic or DIScovering Neverland. I love TheDawnPatrol's graphic (but then you can see I'm partial to Tink...) After we get a few options we can post a poll and vote on them...

I received my Cruise Planning packet in the mail yesterday. So fun to read through!

Jennifer,

I will be driving down on Friday. I always stay at the Residence Inn by Marriott. They are 1/2 mile from the port, have all suites, and a nice hot breakfast. You catch the shuttle around 10am (you pay for round trip $6 per person, keep the ticket and show upon your return after the cruise). They have free parking. The suite we had last year was two queen beds in a designated bedroom. There was a mini kitchen and living room with a sofa bed also. Something to think about if you haven't made a reservation yet.
Looking forward to talking to you all more. I got away for a bit, but I'm trying to caatch up now that cruise documents are showing up in the mail.

Yazee,
I'm also booked at the Residence Inn!!!

I love DIScovering Neverland, and the pretty Neverland graphic. That gets my vote!

Excellent description of the Residence Inn. I like everything about the Residence Inn, but I will miss the beautiful pool at the Radisson. The Radisson has the pool and the free shuttle going for it, but the Residence Inn has the free breakfast and the nicer facility in its favor. With a family of five, free breakfast is significant! On the other hand IF we were paying for the shuttle, those two things would just about cancel each other out. Our plan is to have DH drive us to the port, return the car to the hotel and only he would need to take the shuttle. We've done that before.

I forgot to mention, I picked up our precruise package from the travel agent a couple days ago. This is the earliest we've ever received them. I must confess I am not experiencing any kind of thrill about it. We're super excited about going on the cruise, and I recognize that getting the packet is a milestone toward going on the cruise, but I am so glad it's almost summer I don't want it to be over too soon!
