October 16, 2011 Mexican Riviera on the Wonder

Jathanis,

Could you please send me the spreadsheet because I still have things I'd like to give to the other kids in the FE circle. Even though I wasn't logging onto the forum, I have been getting stuff ready and I know I will have things for the other kiddos.

THX!

We are getting so excited!! Only 3 weeks left to go!

This is our 1st disney cruise and i was wondering if a lot of people will be dressing up for pirate night? We got our 3 year old DD a really cute pirate costume and i'm planning on making something cute for my 7 month old.

Also, those of you who have cruised on disney before, I'm sure there a lot of characters everywhere, but are there a lot of princesses?
Yes you will see princesses. Sometimes they are alone for photo ops at various places and times, and then there is usually one time in the Atrium where you will see four or five princesses and get pictures with all of them. Last year on the Magic we had Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Belle, and Alice. Our 4 year old is hoping to see Rapunzel this time! Look over the navigator for character meetings.

Thank you for those that sent me private messages. I still am not allowed to send private messages. In the interest of time I am going to post here:

DD - Chelsea, 17, pink, princess tiana
DS - Jordan, 14, hunter camo or any boy color, tow mater or buzz lightyear
DD - Camryn, 13, orange, Mickey
DD - Selina, 12, purple, tinkerbell
DD - Corinn, 10, anything girly
DGS - Daniel, 14 mos, nemo

Have to run to work! Only 19 days, so much to do!

Wow!! Better get my booty started TODAY!!! :lmao: One thing we will still need...your room number if you have it. I have a copy of the spreadsheet if you'd like me to send it to you. :thumbsup2 Soooo stinkin' excited!! Can't wait!!

I'm goinG to post all questions I can think of because I'm hoping to get to be able to send PM's soon!

Go ahead and check now - I believe 10 posts was the limit, so you should be able to PM now. I'll PM you when I get home from work, as my phone browser doesn't like to do the PM part of this site... :confused3

And bring on the questions! This thread has been pretty slow lately, and you'll just keep up our excitement for the next few weeks! (As if we need it, but I digress...)

Not to change the subject of our wonderful cruise but I called just to see how many points for the cheapest room on the 14 day Hawaii roundtrip next October was and it was only around 530 for two! Oh man now I need to buy more points! They starting taking reservations today...I only had 334 available to borrow because I used almost 3 years worth of points for this cruise!

Just wanted to know what state ( or country) everyone is coming from? I have something from my state (California) that I wanted to give but if everyone else is from Cali too they may not care too much about that. :hippie:

Ooo, I was wondering that too! I'm from Cali too unfortunately :)

Btw, re my cabin number, from what my father-in-law says, we likely won't be assigned our cabin until we check in there -- apparently it's since we have a chance to get upgraded or something. So if that's the case, I'll drop off a note with my room # for everyone on the first night.

I'm from AZ, I was thinking of doing something like that too, but also worried that there would be a lot of us from AZ. :)

It is the vacation club points. I have a total of 11 people in my group, my kids my parents and my grandson and I paid like $1300 cash for all of us because I used my DVC points to pay. Best timeshare I ever bought!!!!!

You are allowed to bank points to the next year if you don't use them and borrow from the next year so I used three years worth of points to get the cruise and we paid for my mom and dad to go too for my dads 70th birthday present. Now all want todo is buy more points so I can goon more cruises!!!!!
:yay:

We're coming from UT. I guess I haven't put the location details on my profile yet.

We're coming from Florida. Yes, Port Canaveral is a 4 hour drive away but we were living in Utah when we booked this cruise 2 years ago.

Do you get any other special offers for cruises using DVC points? I've been tempted to buy in but haven't been satisfied with the information on their website.

Other than special "Welcome Home" magnets on the door, a small gift on our bed one day, and a special invite to a meeting that showed us stuff about Aulani (that was probably not too different from the one for non-members), no, I noticed nothing too different.

Oh, there might have been a free pin exclusive for DVC members, too, but I'm not sure. And we got DVC member hats at the meeting...

There are spirited arguments, err, discussions regarding the use of points for booking cruises. One camp is of the opinion that it is a waste of money, and either A) you pay more for the points than just paying cash for the cruise or B) you can rent your points out for more money than you'd pay to book the cruise, and you can use the rest of the cash for spending money. This, of course, depends on the price of the cruise. I'd bet that those who book early at the best rates, or use the on-board 10% discount, etc, are correct, but the DVC points for a cruise never change where the prices do. Also remember that there are a limited number of cabins available for DVC bookings, so while off-season cruises like ours are easier to book, the summer & holiday ones can be hard to get unless you book REALLY early! The other camp is that DVC is a great way to budget for regular Disney vacations, and when compared to the total cost of using your points at the park + tickets + food, etc, it's a nice break between park trips. I'm partly of both camps - mostly the latter, but I did sell some extra points to a friend for enough to cover the fee to book the cruise through DVC & our hotel the night before departure... :thumbsup2

We bought in at Florida's Saratoga Springs from Disneyland, intending to use our points to stay mostly at DL, as financially, it made sense for us. Then, when they opened the Grand Californian DVC, we bought there, too, for the earlier booking window. We are taking this cruise on DVC points, but will be cash booking our next while onboard to get the best prices for 2013 AND to save our DVC points for the grand opening of Carsland at DL next summer. In the future, we'll use our Florida points to stay at WDW, Hawaii, and ever Paris DL when we go to London in 2015, and use our CA points for yearly trips to DL. Then, once DD is out of the house for college but before grandkids (big gap, I hope), we'll probably do more cruises and RCI trades for travel...

Anyone who wants a (mostly) unbiased opinion of DVC, let me know - I'll give you all the good points, and a few bad ones that I've found along the way. I've literally sold members on it poolside at the Grand drinking Guinness, and have talked people out of it because it was the wrong thing for them... :)

Sounds good - hopefully you'll get a great upgrade!

I don't know, Napa Valley chardonnays are always nice... :rotfl2:

Seriously, there's plenty of CA many natives have never seen. I live about 2 hours from Yosemite National Park, and I'm AMAZED at how many of my acquaintances and co-workers have never been there in their entire lives!
