We're not dressy folk. My DD dresses like a girl, but plays like a boy. She'll be all decked out and my DH and I will look like poor country cousins on formal night. Just not my thing. I want to be able to go to the formal seating, but don't want to feel uncomfortable for not wearing a dress.

I am not a real dress up kinda guy either. But on the disney cruise we brought tux's for both semi and formal nights. We never do formal nights on other cruises. Like others mentioned it is not required.

Although I do have to say I really enjoyed seeing everyone all dressed up on formal night, from adults to kids.

When we ate dinner in Palo we just wore dress pants and button down shirts, nothing fancy. Now I am thinking about the Palo brunch....:woohoo:

Palo Brunch is the best. DH calls it one of the best meals he ever had. We prefer it to dinner there.

As for formal night, we’ve done it both ways and found that it really comes down to what makes you happy. DH prefers going the jacket and tie rout so that’s what he’ll be doing I think.. When we did go formal, there is a company that he rented his tux from. It delivered it to the ship (black jacket, white jacket, pants, shirt tie, cumber bun, cuff links, socks and shoes) and picked it up from the ship. Very convenient.

My thoughts on the subjects........
(wow its been a long week)

New day - new questions from the newbie!!

Okay - I've been reading about dining on the cruises - of course I know about Palo (will figure out what day to try to book later). I'm wondering - since this is a Halloween cruise - will there still be a Pirate night? Is Pirate night just in a specific restaurant or does the whole ship observe the same night? What about formal night - is it formal because it's Tuesday (for example) or because you are in a specific restaurant? I feel like I don't know anything! But I'm learning and have about 1 year, 1 month, 4 days to figure it out!

The Halloween Cruise we went on there was also a pirate night...so yes your luggage can become larger than you might want....
We have been in Lumiers and Animators Pallete for Formal night, I do perfer Lumiers as a restaurant and definitley would liek to be there for formal night. But dont know that i would go out of my way to change my rotation, but only becasue i am lazy about using the telephone...I could have DH do it.

Humorously enough attire can be a hotly debated subject on this forum, not this thread, just in general on the DCL forum.

:rotfl2:When i was a newbie here, i unfortunatley started 2 thread thats got closed down, 1 was about formal night one was about an iron, NO IRONS in the rooms.

Pudo - I guess you and my DH will be in the minority together! I'm not even sure he has a suit jacket - shirt and tie he can do. I might have to find something dressier for him. I just mentioned to my DD that there are dress-up nights and she'll need a dress! She immediately said, then I'm not going - she is such a tomboy! Although she did backtrack and say that she will still go, but will find something other than a dress to wear! LOL! Thanks again for your replies!

My First formal night i wore a long sort of straight dress with heels..I had fun did the pictures, felt great.
My second foraml night i got a long FLOWY dress, (more close to beachy i will see if i can load up a pic later) and wore Flip Flops I had fun, did the pictres, felt even better! No one could see the flip flops with the long dress and it was sooooooo much more comfy!

I already got 2 long dresses again for this cruise that i can use flip flops with! Also will use the one i had last year for palo.
Honestly, your teen age girls may not be around enough to even need a lot of dress up things. I make my kids get dressed up take the pictures and then they can leave if they want, My DD usually stays to eat my DS leaves immediatley!

We have done Dinner and Brunch with a group and High Tea,
I think we would have like brunch better alone
We Really Really enjoyed Dinner
BUT i LOVE the High Tea.........
The High tea was MUCH less formal yet elegant in its own way,and barely any one in the dining room.
And if you gotta eat lunch what better way, I was Full when done and well rested. No kids to listen to yours or anyone elses and great food. Food was light and tea was good.

Your gonna have a great time!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Ditto on the brunch. I could have sat there for hours eating the laser cut crab legs. Top of my list for favorite meals as well. We will prob do the tux's again. We are fortunate to get our rentals for free, otherwise we would go the jacket and tie route.

Tell her she can wear nice pants with a dressy top. If she wants put her in a tux. It all about dressing up in a manner that you feel comfortable and having fun. It not to worry about or get into power struggles over. It could be fun to see what she might enjoy wearing. Tell her I will be looking to see what she decides to do. Lois

Thanks Lois! She will love that someone will be on the "look out" for her! She is amazed when I tell her about "so and so from the Dis"! I love the comment about it not being a power struggle! I have already learned to pick my battles! Thanks! I hate to wish the next year away - but I'm so looking forward to this trip!

Lynn!! Thanks so much for posting the pics! Gorgeous family! I certainly have a better idea of what's going on! (I especially like the pirate outfits! Wish my tummy was as flat as yours!)

Great pics Lynn!

The kids look so young! :goodvibes

Thanks,

The ones with the kids are both from our first Disney cruise which was Halloween 2007.

So DS was 14 and DD had Just turned 11.

Lynn,

You have a lovely family. Your son looks like you. Has anyone told you that you look like actress Diane Wheaten? Thanks for sharing your pics.

Linda

Since Lynn is having so much fun posting photos I thought I would put some up from the 15 repo cruise.
