Oct 30 2010 7 Night Western (PART 2)

I guess we are the first ones back too!

What an amazing 9 days from start to finish...what a sincere pleasure it was to share our cruise with all of you!

Much more to say, many pics to share...mountains of laundry calling! ;)

What an amazing 9 days from start to finish...what a sincere pleasure it was to share our cruise with all of you!

Much more to say, many pics to share...mountains of laundry calling! ;)

We checked into BCV today, just went to EPCOT for the afternoon which was not the best idea. Just realized that if I want something to eat going to EPCOT during Food & Wine is a bad idea. Just a bunch of people waiting in line :confused3 Worse than trying to get on a popular Fast Pass ride. :lmao:

Anywho, we will be at BCV today and tomorrow, flying back home Monday.

The cruise was fantastic, can't say enough about TinkerbellTwins' family (Beth, Steve, Hope & Skye). Sarah had a great time playing with the girls, in the pool and at the kid's club.

Missy and I for the first time since Sarah was born got to eat at Palo. A special bonus was sitting in the Palo room with 12 other DISers. :thumbsup2

I really can't say enough about the great group, the incredible FE gifts, ToT, treasure hunt on Nachi and on and on. Thank you to all that participated.

I can say without a doubt this was the best cruise we have ever been on.

Side note: We were lucky enought to get Sasha as our server. As many have written before, he was absolutely the best.

More to come, gotta go to Hollywood Studios!

Jeff

I, for one, was very disappointed with the service compared with the last cruise we were on. Pirate night was not representative of the true Disney Show. Sound problems through the show! I talked to many folks that agreed! Did you know that right before the cruise they took 30% of the staff off and replaced them with brand new crew! It really showed. We took some guests that had cruise on other lines, their comments were something to the fact that Disney was inferior. Our family was disappointed!

We're almost half way home. Staying in Wilson NC for the night. I can't believe the vacation is OVER!! We are all so sad to be off the ship. Overall, we had a FANTASTIC Experience! There were a few things I was surprised with regarding the condition of things on the ship, considering she just came out of drydock. None of these things though were enough to take away from the enjoyment of the cruise. The biggest one of these things (and I'll say I may never have noticed most if I were a first time cruiser, except for this one), was the DUST on the Chandelier in the Atrium. I was up on Deck 5, on the balconly overlooking the Atrium, and the closest spot to that gorgeous Chandelier. I was trying to take some great photos of it, but all that stood out to me the most, was the amount of Dust on it.

As for our servers, I personally found them to be very good. Our Head Server and Assistant server were GREAT, our main server, he was doing his best, and thats what mattered. He was the newest out of the 3 I think, but new staff have to learn from somewhere. By then end of the cruise, he was no longer reading from notes he had written (I thought that was cute), and he seemed to be very happy with his position.
I too could hear the sound problems on Pirate night, don't know what that was all about. My son loved it, flaws and all, (I don't think he really noticed).

We stopped at the St. Augustine Disney Outlet on the way home, it's right off the I-95, and WOW, I WISH we had stopped there last year, or even THIS year ON THE WAY TO FL!! What a Fantastic Place! Lot's of cruise stuff there. Large prints of the ship, that were identical to the painting of it on the ship, were being sold for $10.00. I should have gotten one, but DH talked me out of it, saying we had so many photos of the ship...........
They had WDW Thick Beach towels for $8.95. I got a tinkerbell fleece jacket for half price (picked one up for my DD as well), got a bunch of stuff, walked out with a huge bag full. Then across from the Disney Store was a Sports logo/memorabilia store. There I found a Washington Redskins Christmas ornament and a Mr. Potatoe Head dressed all in Washington Redskins gear. This will be the gift for my friends DH who is a HUGE Redskins fan (they are looking after one of our dogs, so this is a thankyou gift).
Tim, little Tim has pulled the pouty lip several times today and has said frequently "Please Mom PLEASE take us on the DREAM!!!!!"

All in all, this was by far the BEST Cruise we've ever been on, and a lot of it has to do with THIS group!! You have all brought so much Extra Magic to the Magic, I don't know if any other cruise can live up to it!! We too have lots of photos to share, Gotta find time to upload them. Like nenner, I will have a ton of laundry to catch up on, oh wait, DH did some last night duriing dinner, so not a ton, but definately a large large bag to do. On top of getting the kids back to school, and everything unpacked,,,,,, me thinks me needs a vacation!!:)

So sorry you were dissappointed. We had the opposite experience. Obviously you must have had some bad servers. We did not and our family who was cruising with DCL for the first time was extremely impressed with the service. I feel terrible for those who did not get the best service, I suppose it does make you feel dissappointed.

We thought the entertainment was wonderful, especially Alfred and Seymor. The Disney shows were the same as always but still good. Loved the screening of Secretariat. We saw some minor problems such as some missing handrests at the theater and it did look like the theater needed some work during drydock that it didn't get. But other than that it was a pleasant trip.

Hope everyone returns home safely. Thanks so much to everyone who worked hard on this cruise meet. We didn't do FE or get in on the Nachi excursions but we were happy to see so many around the ship with their wonderful orange lanyards! Thanks Nenner for those!!

Home! A very long day of traveling. A bumpy flight back to NY and two kids who got car sick just as we were getting home from JFK. I was so worried about seasickness, which never happened, and then they both get ill pulling into our very own driveway.:confused3

Overall, it was a wonderful cruise. I am so happy that I joined this thread and got to do so many things with all of you. The highlights were definitely our time at Nachi, the FE exchange and the DIS Trick or Treat.

Our servers were not stellar, but they were fine. Our assistant server was very good. Our main server seemed a bit annoyed that our kids didn't really talk (Allison is cripplingly shy and Michael is speech delayed). He also seemed a little "fake nice", you know what I mean? He lost me when he refused to bring DS chicken noodle soup for dinner on our second night. I know it wasn't on our menu that night, but it was being served in Lumiere's that night and it's on the room service menu. This seems like something that shouldn't have been such a big deal. Oh well. It didn't ruin it for us though, and we thought the food overall was pretty good. Palo's was excellent and our server there was a hoot.

My kids had a blast in the clubs and did not want to leave when we went to pick them up. I was happily surprised by this.

Regarding the FE exchange: When I was delivering to the cabins on deck 6, I realized that one of the bags had broken and three of the things had come out of a bag I had already delivered. I went back and checked each one, but two of you had already picked up. So, I left the extra three items in the first of those two cabins that I delivered to. Whoever you are, I hope I guessed right and that you got everything!

Special thanks to Judy for my beautiful FE that I hope to use for years to come. And to Jen for the lanyards that were not only cool looking, but kept all of our key to the world cards and i.d.'s in one handy place. Plus, my kids had a great time with the Trick or Treat!

Will post more specifically after I get some of my photos uploaded!

Goodnight everyone...Jane

We are back too! On the drive back we took a detour to Downtown Disney... even tho it was chilly we had fun! Had a nice lunch at House of Blues and hot chocolate at Ghirardelli.

We had a fantastic trip. Our servers at main dining and Palo were fantastic! We had the same server for brunch and dinner, so that was nice. Our server for tea was also great. Loved getting to see a couple movies on the ship. Next time, I think we will plan less for sea days (we had martini tasting, Palo stuff, and spa) so that we can relax and do more of the onboard activities. I think the only thing we made it to was one game!

We only made it to one adult show (Alfred & Seymour)... and I am more than fine with that. I was so tired everynight that I was falling asleep at the A&S late night show. I thought their family show was much more entertaining anyways. Next time I won't even try to make it to the late night stuff.

One annoying thing happened tho. Twice we were charged for things that weren't ours. Both times we had never presented out KTTW cards, so I have no idea how they were able to charge us. One of them we got drinks in promenade, but the server charged us for ours and then ran another charge for someone else's. The weird thing is... is ours were charged on schimj's card, which we presented, but the other person's were charged on MINE, which the server never had. We spoke to guest services TWICE but they said food and beverage would have to look at it and take it out since we couldn't prove it. How in the heck would I prove this?!?!? Very aggravated about this and it makes me worry about charges next time and how I am going to have to watch it like a hawk. Did anyone else have issues like this?

Oh well, still a great cruise and can't wait to get started planning the next one!

As for FE, we ended up bringing home one gift that I thought we were handing out. I am wondering if we missed someone and crossed off the name but didn't put one in the FE? Did anyone on list A not get a photo album from us?

What an amazing, amazing time! Our first Disney cruise was surely something to write home about!

Thank you all! The FE gifts were so great, it was so much fun to come "home" and find gifts waiting for us. Unfortunately, someone stole one of our magnets. Morgan is less than pleased, so whoever gave us the set of 3 magnets with the clear pebbles - if you have an extra of the Mickey pirate, I'd gladly pay to have it mailed to us.

Our servers were fabulous! So good to Morgan and very very helpful.

The only issue we had was the "sewer" smell. They really worked hard on it, but it kept coming and going throughout the cruise.

And, I was rather disappointed there was no special menu for Halloween. :( I was really looking forward to the pumpkin chocolate cake.

If someone didn't get any postcards or magnetic bookmarks, please let me know, and I'll send them out. I know a couple people moved, so I want to make sure everyone gets theirs. I have more than enough to share!

Thank you again.

Awww you didn't get the special desserts? There was a pumpkin one and one with a bat and it was just something the server brought out to us as a surprise... nothing that was on a menu. That stinks that you didn't get any

:sad1: No, we didn't get any.

:sad1: No, we didn't get any.

We didn't get any either. And you and I were on the same dining rotation, you were seated quite near us, but had different servers. Maybe it had something to do with the restaurant we were in that night? :confused3 I think I also saw you in Palo's the same night we were there (Thursday, 8:00 p.m.?). While our server got our orders correct (though he did forget a bagel for my husband on one morning and never checked on us so we could ask for it), he made it kind of obvious after the first night that he wasn't really going to be doing anything for us more than what he was required to do. He had a table of 12 or so right behind us and he seemed much more focused upon them. Kind of disappointing, but our assistant server was so nice to us, it made up for a lot.

We did not have the sewer smell at all. I did put a vanilla scented air freshener in the bathroom the first day, but I did not notice that it was "masking" anything. Our safe did not work the first day and wasn't fixed until sometime on the second day. This was kind of annoying because we had a lot of cash with us to pay for our account, plus our passports, ipods and my Kindle. I wasn't comfortable leaving all that stuff in the room without it being in a safe, so we had to carry it around until the problem was fixed.

Our room was in a good location, and I was surprised that their was no hallway noise since we were so close to the midship elevators and stairs. We did hear them cleaning and power washing deck 7 over our heads during the middle of the night, every night of the cruise. This was not really a big deal and I wouldn't have noticed it at all if DS hadn't woken me up in the middle of the night repeatedly to use the potty!

The only part about our room I didn't like was our neighbors. They were loud, especially the husband. He would scream at his kids to get out of bed and he once slammed a drawer on his side of the wall so hard it bounced my head that I had rested on the back of our bed while I was reading. I heard him smack his daughter across the face from our balcony in the early a.m. when she wasn't moving fast enough to go to breakfast. It was kind of awful to hear.

All I can say is WOW!! My family being a first time cruiser, we had just an incredible time. Our serving team great!! Our Room Stewart Jenny was like part of the family! She went way above and beyond, I must say that Anthony from Flounders Reef was incredible with my 2year old who was just so overwhelmed and for some reason had extreme seperation anxiety only with me, so anyone who seen a 2 year old blond princess screaming for her dada, that would be my little princess....

We too were on that flight to JFK NY last night, probably one of the worst landings I ever had. I fly alot and we slammed into the ground my head hit the seat in front while holding my 2year old in her seat.

I enjoyed meeting all of you throughout the cruise and it was good to see all the Dis Boarders wearing the lanyards...

Safe home to everyone!!!!

Gerry

Missy and I for the first time since Sarah was born got to eat at Palo. A special bonus was sitting in the Palo room with 12 other DISers. :thumbsup2

Yay! That's awesome! :goodvibes

I really can't say enough about the great group, the incredible FE gifts, ToT, treasure hunt on Nachi and on and on. Thank you to all that participated.

I can say without a doubt this was the best cruise we have ever been on.

We second that. What an amazing and wonderful group of folks on this thread- YOU are what made this cruise so very special to us!!! It was delight cruising with you all!

I, for one, was very disappointed with the service compared with the last cruise we were on. Pirate night was not representative of the true Disney Show. Sound problems through the show! Hi Scott, I'm sorry to hear you had a rough go of it. Yes, we too did see many folks "Earning their Ears", and know that many of the experienced staff has moved on to train for the Dream (and others that will go soon).

I hope you received your lanyards, I did not have your stateroom number and had to leave them at Guest Services with your name. They assured me they would deliver them to you, so I hope they did follow through on that! :)

All in all, this was by far the BEST Cruise we've ever been on, and a lot of it has to do with THIS group!! You have all brought so much Extra Magic to the Magic, I don't know if any other cruise can live up to it!!

And *YOU* are a huge reason this cruise was so much fun for all of us. THANK YOU SO MUCH Judy for your tireless work making Magic for us to enjoy! :goodvibes

Hope everyone returns home safely. Thanks so much to everyone who worked hard on this cruise meet. We didn't do FE or get in on the Nachi excursions but we were happy to see so many around the ship with their wonderful orange lanyards! Thanks Nenner for those!!

You're so welcome, it was quite a hoot so see everyone in their lanyards and T shirts on embarkation day and all of the great door decorations and FE's..I have truly never seen so many festive doors! Loved it!!!

Have to give a huge shout to Nicole for helping me the first day passing the lanyards out. :goodvibes :thanks:

Home! A very long day of traveling. A bumpy flight back to NY and two kids who got car sick just as we were getting home from JFK. I was so worried about seasickness, which never happened, and then they both get ill pulling into our very own driveway.:confused3

Agreed- Nachi was wonderful and the Treasure Hunt was really a huge highlight for Savannah- and to think I wasn't even sure she would want to do it! It looked like such fun! :)

I'm so glad everyone was able to enjoy the ToT- a few did tell me it was better than Disney's LOL (that was my goal!). It was a bit difficult to plan something like that from home and I do send my apologies to those who had trouble with their station or with me getting back to release them promptly. Thank you, so, so so, SO much for your work volunteers! You all did an amazing job and YOU are what made it a huge success!!!
:thanks::disrocks:

Glad you guys had a great time- sorry we never got the opportunity to meet! :)

I did have one thing- it wasn't an issue but since you bring up the charging problems I'll mention. Ron and I were in Treasure Ketch and he left briefly with the cards-I was ready to check out and they told me no problem, that I didn't need a card, just tell them my room number. I immediately thought Geez- I could tell them any room number for all they knew. ;)

Sorry you had to go through that- ridiculous. Did they eventually refund those charges?

What an amazing, amazing time! Our first Disney cruise was surely something to write home about!

Glad you all had such a wonderful time! :) Thanks so much for being our photographer in Key West! :thumbsup2

The only issue we had was the "sewer" smell. They really worked hard on it, but it kept coming and going throughout the cruise.

We smelled it briefly on occasion too- most notably on embarkation day near the aft elevators (ooooh the aft elevators, that's another can of worms altogether). We did have a mild tinge of an odor occasionally in both of our bathrooms. The kids' inside room seemed to have it more noticeably than ours. It wasn't bad enough to warrant a complaint or even a mention. It was just something we noticed from time to time.

And, I was rather disappointed there was no special menu for Halloween. :( I was really looking forward to the pumpkin chocolate cake.

Oh, what a bummer! I'm sorry you did not get to experience those, we would have been disappointed too! :sad2:

We had such a fantastic time. Once again we had superb service- only our main dining room server was only "Very Good" and not absolutely unequivocally OUTSTANDING. Our Stateroom Host was amazing- towel animals TWICE A DAY in both rooms!!! Our Assistant Server was awesome- always had Sarah's drinks and area all set up for her before we arrived. He was spot on with refills- sometimes brought two drinks at once if we were drinking a lot, or he anticipated being tied up with other tables a while. Just fantastic. And I can't say enough about our Head Server Godwin- a name I had recognized from these boards from when he used to be a server. He was hands down the best Head Server we've ever had, and I suspect everything a Head Server is supposed to be and then some. He even took Sarah for a walk around the dining room one evening so we had an opportunity to finish our dinner. Our main server was very good too, just not over the top out of the park amazing! We had all the little perks too, the origami, magic tricks, and napkin hats. Needless to say we went way over budget in the tip department, and it was well deserved.

In general I was happy with the state of the ship. I was expecting way worse from the accounts after dry dock. Not to say there weren't issues that should have been attended to, especially during dry dock- like the theater (Sarah accidentally kicked an armrest that fell into the aisle), the dust on the chandelier, the rust in various places like our verandah and especially the Goofy Pool, a broken and hanging flag decoration near Signals Bar in the Quiet Cove pool. Things like those- details that in the past you would expect to be fixed immediately-recent dry dock notwithstanding.

Entertainment was great- Alfred and Seymour, John Charles and Jason Bishop were all wonderful (loved Jason Bishop's shout out to the Disboards and how we critique everything here). The stage shows were as wonderful as ever. It was our first time seeing Twice Charmed which was terrific and although Villains Tonight moved a bit slow (did every single Villain need such a long cameo?) it was overall still a great show. The Nancy Grace one liner still has me chuckling.

The Ports were great. Key West was hot as all get out and the occasional shower seemed to catch us at inopportune times but it was fun seeing all of our new friends riding the Old Town Trolley (sorry I got reprimanded for talking! :rotfl2:). We didn't get to do half of what we had planned and still did not make it back in time for the onboard Halloween stuff but it was still a fun port. Grand Cayman, again Captain Marvins was fun- not quite so easy with Sarah however. We had fun in Margaritaville too with Jonathan and Amy and Adam! :goodvibes Nachi Cocom in Cozumel was so great, made all the better by all of our new friends with us!! Castaway Cay, could we not have been luckier with the storm passing right over us!!?!?! Nothing was going to rain on our parade! Love the new additions there, what fun! Could not believe the culture shock coming back to a chilly Port Canaveral. It seemed like it was still summer when we left and we came back to full on Winter! :scared:

The kids had such a wonderful time, and I'm so glad they both have great new friends hopefully for a long time to come. If I keep typing any more I won't have to bother with a trip report but I just wanted to give a little overview of our wonderful cruise!! :cloud9:

Were you in Animator's Palate for Halloween? We didn't do Palo for dinner at all, we just did brunch. I wish I had been a bit less shy with saying hi to people who were wearing their lanyards. I did get to meet a few of you (and a lot of you recognized my model and muse), and Morgan had a great time meeting threeiscrazy's kids and nieces.

Oh, and a HUGE thank you to GrandmaCharming! Those bags are AWESOME!

Our room was quiet, but I did get a fan from my sister, so the white noise may have helped.

Nope not yet - I had went down Friday night and stood in line to get my statement. Then talked with schimj and we stood in line AGAIN to dispute it. They pulled up the charge and it was definitely not ours, so we said so. They said they had to check with food & beverage and see if they had the receipt and who signed it and etc etc. Then the next morning it was still on our bill under the door and we called and they said the same thing about not being able to remove it. It makes me so mad that anyone could just charge by giving a room number. That's how they did the spa too... and it made me wary of their accounting system. I wrote on my comment card about it and gave a poor to guest services dealing with our issue and asked them to contact me and left a phone number... so we will see if they do.

One other bad point that I forgot to mention... during villains tonight when they shot the confetti cannon something shot out of there (a clump of confetti or maybe the cap for it) and hit me in the side HARD and it stung for like 10 mins and was sore for a day or so. :scared1: I saw Brent afterwards and was going to tell him that they shot me :rotfl2:

Neither was bad enough to keep us from rebooking TWO more trips... but I will definitely be keeping a close eye on the charges!

Jen, thank you for bringing by the bag of goodies Morgan missed out on for the TorT. Completely unnecessary, but very much appreciated!

Yep, we were in Animator's for Halloween. And I guess that was just someone in Palo's that looked a whole lot like you!

Agreed about the bags from GrandmaCharming....beautiful! We used the bag a whole lot during the cruise. I even used it to help me deliver my own FE gifts!

Poor thing! :lmao:

Yes, I used it to deliver the gifts too. Put them in in the order I would be taking them out and went along and delivered.

Who did the awesome coasters? I :lovestruc those!

I like to give a big thank you to everyone out there. We loved all our FE gifts, lanyands, TOT, treasure hunt and meeting everyone. You made it a magical and best vacation we have ever had. My kids and I will remeber forever. Thank you for everyones hard work and a lifetime of memories. Denise Stein dstein12

I'd just like to echo TifffanyD's statements about how much we enjoyed ourselves on the cruise. Had a blast at Nachi and delivering the FE gifts. I was also impressed with the number of the Not-so-Scary Halloween Cruise lanyards I saw over the course of the week from the time we were standing waiting to get on the ship to the time we were standing waiting for the Hertz shuttle to pick up our rental for the drive back. We're really looking forward to our next Disney cruise, which is now less than 90 days away.

We had my parents on board with us for this trip (their first Disney Cruise), and they really enjoyed it, too. So much so that they made a trip to the future bookings desk, too. They'll be sailing with us in June of 2012 on the Fantasy. Hope everyone that is now back in the real world is coping well enough. I don't feel like going to work tomorrow, but I must. Need to help earn the $ for our up-coming cruises and one of our on-board purchases. We bought an add-on to our DVC Membership!!!!
