Foolishly (well, more like impatiently :D) I booked next years holiday before I knew what the half term dates were!! Its no real concern as DDs school is fine with the 10 day holiday rule, but I wish to extend by a few days. I have booked 14th - 28th Oct. I am hoping that half term will be the week of 23-29th so I can add on a couple of days with no problem. Does anyone no for sure?? We are in Essex (I think some of the northern areas are different to us).

Thanks if anyone can help!!

Allie

I have you tried looking at your local government website. Ours has a section on schools that includes the term dates.

I searched google for you. Have a look if this is your LEA
essex council ?

Bottom right of page.

We have booked exactly the same date 14th -28th.

I rang the school and they advised the expected dates were 24/10/04 to 28/10/04 (Mon-Fri)

She went on to say that if this was not the case then any time away due to her being incorrect would not count towards any recorded days. Wont make much difference as it can only be the week before.

One question, Has anybody returned on a Friday and their kids gone back on the Monday? Just to know is this long enough for them to get back into the swing of things with sleeping etc
Thanks

Our friends arrived back in Gatwick at dinnertime on a Thursday, drove home to Wales. DD aged 11 was in school on the friday. She was fine kids handle it better than the adults.

From choice, we try to plan our trips so that we fly home on a Friday, arriving back at home sometime on Saturday. Having one full day (Sunday in this case) at home seems to make getting back to a normal routine fairly easy.

As silverka has said, the children will be fine, it's the adults who seem to find it harder! ;)

We do exactly as Hilary does! Fly back on Friday and arrive home Saturday morning.

I wouldn't say they are 100% on Monday but close enough:p

Thanks everyone!!

Silverka, that link to the Essex LEA was perfect, the dates are exactly what I thought, THANK YOU!! Yes, we will also fly back on a Friday, return Saturday. I will add my extra dates onto the beginning now that I know most of our holiday falls in the half term!!

Our eldest (4) has never had any problems with adjusting to the time, I think because she usually manages to sleep on the plane on the way home. We usually arrange her Nan to visit the afternoon we are back, so this keeps her interested until pretty much her normal bedtime!! Our son was only 9 months old last year, and he did take longer to adjust. About a week all told.
