Darren Posted!!!!!!!!!! Welcome back!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to hear all about it.

It has been raining and raining from Isabel. She came right at us. We have had over an inch already and it hasn't stopped.

Jerry is coming home early. He is getting his hair cut, then going to the Social Security Office to get Kaleigh an SS#. That is the last loophole to be tied up since her adoption was finalized and we received the birth certificates. Then we have to take Shannon to the vet for bloodwork and new pills.

My brother is not coming to Kaleigh's party. His wife had knee surgery a few weeks ago and isn't doing well. I said for him to bring the 3 kids, we'd feed them and she could have the afternoon to herself. I got a laundry list of excuses why he probably wouldn't do that. After all the parties and stuff we have gone to for their kids, they can't be "bothered" with Kaleigh's 1st birthday party. I have always been there, no matter how much pain I have been in, either from my back, my endo or surgery. This really has me upset! I'll let you know if he changes his mind.

We have been researching cruise for the Spring of 2005. I found one that Ireally wanted to go on, but there was a problem with the sleeping arrangements for a toddler. I found the solution in my One Step Ahead catalog. A travel toddler bed that rolls out onto the floor and rolls back up into the size of a sleeping bag. 10 days on the Sun Princess, here we come! Of course, we still have to book the cruise, minor details.

Sue: good luck to Turner!

Julie: DO you have all this stuff written down somewhere?

I am just giddy waiting to hear all the scuttlebutt from Darren!

Denine, just do what Garry and I do for birthday parties with his brother...... we just don't invite them anymore:p ! Saves us the frustration of having to deal with all the excuses. Our Oct. 19th cruisers are part of our family so just say the word and we will all show up wearing our LIME green for her birthday party. Try to explain that one to the rest of your family why you have a house full of lime green people :teeth:

OK, Darren. We've waited a long time. We want to hear your story! Tell us, tell us, tell us. I know I sound like a whining child but I really want to know!

Right I've decided that I'm going to compose and e-mail with my full story in it and e-mail it all to you rather than posting it publicly on the board. As far as I know I have everyones e-mail but if you e-mail has changed in the last 6 months please tell me!! So get ready for all the juicy details there!!!

Anyway just to tell you a bit about what I'm doing at the moment:

After finishing my first hard working stay on-board on the Disney Magic (more info in e-mail) I'm now back home in the UK. Now my current situation is that I want to go back to the ship but I've decided that I do not want go back to work in the Dining Room again. I am going to be getting in touch with DCL on Monday (hopefully) to talk to them about the possibility of re-applying to work in Guest Services a much better area for me I think. I've made so many friends with the people in this department and the job they do seems so great. Funnily enough when I originally applied to work for DCL there were two areas I was interested in - the Dining Room (working as Assistant Server) and working in Guest Services. But when I was orginally interveiwed I was told I would be best to apply for the Dining room as I would get on the ship much quicker as people can wait as long as 2-3 years to get a position in guest services, so unless I was dead set on Guest Services I would be best to go for the Dining Room.

Anyway after completing my first stay on the Disney Magic I have decided I would be better suited to work in Guest Services. I enjoyed my time in the dining room but I also found it very difficult. You work the longest hours on the ship (up to 85 hours a week) and not only that when you are working you a running about all the time and everyone gets very stressed. When your having to work Breakfast (starting as early as 6am) then working Lunch, then Dinner - which is the most difficult time of the day, having to serve all your guests in two seatings whilst providing the highest level of service (which I always wanted to knowing how much people look forward to coming on the cruise and of course food is a big part of this), after being up from early in the morning can be very difficult, then on some nights you would work Midnight snacks or Midnight buffet not finishing until around 1am (otherwise you'd finish around 11:30/12pm) and then it starts all over again.
Saying all this though you do get used to it and I used to have great fun times with my guest and fellow crew members and I've made some great friends on-board. But I times it just felt like I couldn't give my full 110% as I was just so tired.

But I think I would like to try Guest Services next time if I can as it seems like something I would love to do. The people in that department also work very hard but in a different way. I think it would very rewarding helping guests with any problems they have and be right on the front line with the guests would be so great. This is why I'm going to try for the department. Admittedly the pay isn't quite as good but you do work slightly less hours (between 65-70) and it isn't quite as physically challenging more mentally chanllenging - something I much prefer.

Anyway being as I want to make this change it could mean I'll be at home for a little while now applying and waiting for a position (if I get it). This means I'll have more time to post and keep up to date with all of you! Yeah! Also I'm probably going to have to find something to tie me over work-wise. I'm thinking of checking out my local Disney Store for jobs or maybe I'll even end up going back to my older job as Floor Manager for McDonalds (but then again I hope not).
Also I might even be able to make the meet up with all you guys in December!!!

(sorry if any of the spelling or grammer is not so good in this, hopefully i've checked it thoroughly enough!! :D )

Thankyou for you major update Julie, you have saved me so much reading!!! I'm very impressed your abilty to remember everything!!! :D

Just I few more things I wanted to say:

Joyce - so sorry to hear about you father, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Patti - my thoughts and prayers are with you to, hope all is going well with your daughters son Dylan, I hope all is clear.

Bonnie - Sounds like your life is going well! Shame you didn't get on Wheel of Fortune though, although maybe it's not such a bad thing as the people who go on that show always seem like they're a little bit crazy!

and not forgetting:
Julie - CONGRATULATIONS on the baby, that is great news.

ALSO......

I take it everyone ones up to date with all the DCL stuff, i.e.

10 Night Cruise in Dec 04 (Did anyone consider booking for this?)
7 Night Eastern's having a few changes in Summer/Fall 04 some will be visiting San Juan and some will be visiting Antigua instead of St Maarten (the best thing about the San Juan one is that they'll be no midweek immigration!)
Also the Magic's Dry dock starts in just over a week - (Teen's moving up to where ESPN Skybox is at the moment, Common Grounds turning into a coffee bar and inside relaxation area for everyone, Off Beat & Dueling Pianos going :( - being replaced with new sports/entertainment bar, New updated crew mess - yeah!).

I wouldn't be suprised if the 10 day cruise was booked by now, so many guests seemed to be booking it whilst on their cruise!

Darren- I was afraid it might be too much working the dining room...get to work on the email so we can hear the whole story!
Could you continue in the dining room though and continue to try to apply for the guest services position? What about getting a work visa for the parks? If you won't be on the ship in November/december you can join the crew in WDW the first week in Dec!!!!!

Denine - sorry to hear about your brother not going. Maybe they will change their mind. I can't believe Kaleigh will be a year old already!!

It arrived Julie!!!

Isabel...apparently I slept through the worst wind and rain between 2AM & 4AM. Only one tree down in a neighgor's backyard up the street...we faired well according to our maintenance man.
Apparently a delayed reaction from a tree though. On the way home from work I saw a huge tree from one side of the street toppled over across the street and onto a house...it happened today...weakened from the storm then a good gust of wind just uprooted it!! Didn't notice any damage to the house though.

Welcome back Darren. So glad you will send us all the real "scoop" soon.
We have missed you and thought of you often.

Julie, you are amazing. You really have a gift for remembering and summarizing just so...
A newsletter, hmmmmmm

Glad everyone "survived" (get it, Survivor last night, heeheehee) the hurricane.
O.k. where is Garry to blast me on that one.

Krista

Stacey sails on the Magic today so if anyone is around we should have a sailaway, bon voyage party online chat to celebrate.

My son and DIL have been without electricity since 10PM on Thursday. No word on when they will get it back.

Krista....nice pun! I wonder why Garry hasn't responded.

Speaking of Garry...Have I told you all lately what a terrific guy he is? He can't be beat!!!

Darren...do you still have the hotmail address or are you back on AOL. Where are you living? Did you move in with your parents or did you keep up your flat? Many questions...waiting for that email!

Darren: I got exhausted just reading about the pace you had to keep! I hope you get offered something in guest services. Can't wait for the e-mail. ONLY 5 PINS????? You spent 6 months on the Magic and ONLY 5 PINS???? Sorry, I have been addicted to e-bay and pins lately. I am waiting for the passholder Mickey & minnie pin from Janaury. It is so cute. I won the auction on the 8th, but it was just mailed a couple of days ago because of some personal problems.

My brother is not coming. I just received an e-mail from his wife. They would rather get together when we can all get together. YEAH RIGHT!!! Like that is ever gonna happen. And by the way "when is Kaleigh's actual birthday?" She is their neice and they don't know??????

Julie: Thanks! I know you would all be here in lime green

Darren: Have you priced the 10-day Christmas cruise? YIKES!!!!!:earseek:

Later all!

I can't believe I actually read it. Darren is back!:bounce: :Pinkbounc You don't know how much we all have missed you. I so look forward to that email. As you were told, my DD Stacey did get married and as I type has boarded the Magic. Please, tell us all the juicy details. I was going to send Stacey a little thinking of you gift for you but thought you would be on your break from the ship. Guess I was right.

Sorry I haven't been on for awhile. My cold just has me down and I don't feel like doing anything. Now I am mad at myself. See what I missed when I was being lazy---Darren is back !

Sounds like the storm has affected a few of you.

Wow, Julie. You did a fine job of remembering. Ok, soooooo how do you do it?

I would love to go to Kaleigh's party along with all of us. Guess it will be another day of lime green for all of us.

I have talked to Stacey everyday so far. I know how unusual for a honeymooner but we are a very close family. I begged her to call once she hit the ship. I have talked to her 3 times today. She goes to Palo tomorrow. Lucky duck! They are in stateroom 7067 and inside stateroom. I told her she will be fine and love it for its darkness for sleeping.

I am going to email the board and see if they can help me with my HUGE writting on this board. Last time Bryan fixed it and didn't show us how. Didn't realize that he wouldn't be here forever so it wasn' an issue.

Welcome back Darren. We are all so happy to hear from you again!!

I can not believe my eyes! DARREN is back! I want ALL the details.

Isabel knocked out our electric from about 11 PM Thursday until 8 AM Friday. Lots of tree branches down but really no major damage.

Talked with Joyce today and she sounds a little better (or at least a little more rested). Tomorrow I will see her at the bridal shower and give you an update.

Can't wait until December and Disney!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc. Hope you all have a great weekend. The weather in New Jersey is perfect. Toodles  :earsgirl: JEANNE

Wow, I should check in more often! HI Darren!!!! We were sure thinking of you often.

Julie, you are such a considerate person. You really pay attention to everyone's posts and treat everyone, truly, like they are your family members. What a woman!!!

Sandy, I have no idea why your text is HUGE. That's weird.

Survivor was so funny! That guy stealing shoes and trading them ... the pirate adventure right off the bat. There are definitely some interesting characters in that game.

Cody and Ben went to a massive Boy Scout 'Camporee' today. Cody is now skilled at BB guns and Hatchet throwing. Oh GOODY!

Well, that's it for my boring life at the moment LOL. Looking forward to Darren's email!

See ya guys. Lori

Just checking in to say Hi! Nothing new going on here. Garry is working tonight and both kids are in bed. We had a minor incident tonight. Makenzie and her brother were playing and when they came running in from the kitchen (which by the way I have told them not to do SEVERAL times and even a little smack on the bottom to let them know I meant business they still came running into the livingr room) the Big Guy fell and Makenzie fell into him and hit her face on his HARD head. Needless to say she now has a black eye! Sure hope they don't have pictures for school this week:eek: !

Nothing else going on here besides that! Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

Jeanne, tell Joyce that we are still thinking of her and if she gets a chance to stop in and just let us know how she is doing.

I'll checkin later! Have a good one everyone!

Good Morning. As I mentioned we have a very busy weekend and it started Friday evening with a Parent Party at Turner's school. Lots of alcohol and lots of fun. Turner would be mortified to know Paul and I did a couple of shots with Father Gary and his teacher!!!:p :p This is the big kickoff for their major fundraiser so, give 'em a little alcohol and they will open up the wallets!!!

Yesterday, Turner had his 1st hockey game at 7:15 and they won 5-2. They played so well. Then it was off to his 1st soccer game and they lost 3-1. You could tell Turner was tired from the hockey game.

After that, I met another Mom to work on decorations for the school Fall Festival. This year will be a Rennaissance theme and we were making shields. That went a lot faster than I anticipated so I got home with a couple of hours to rest.

Then in the evening, Turner had try-outs for the all-star travel team in hockey. There are 3 goalies trying for 1 goalie postition unless they decide to have a backup goalie too. All 3 are really good so we are preparing Turner for disappointment just in case.

Today, Turner and Stanley go back for another puppy training class in the afternoon. Before that we may go to Festival in the Park which is an arts festival.

I will need a weekend to rest from this one!!!!

Later!

Good morning. I am tired just reading what Susan had to do. A little nippy with the Father, huh?

Isn't funny Julie how the kids never listen until they get hurt? That will last a day or two and off they go running again!

Susan, I'm exhausted and a little hungover. And all I did was READ YOUR POST !!!:p

Come on Darren. Get that e-mail out! On our cruise I remember thinking, "If I had the youth and energy, this would be a fun job!" Well, of course I'm old and lazy ... so I'll have to live that one through YOU.
Hey, when someone gets it, please see if he had my correct email and if not, forward it on to me. Thanks!
