Hi, my DS will be 9 next year when we cruise. He will be in the Oceaneer's lab. What is they age they can check themselves out? I am hoping it is not as young as 9, and if it is, can a parent note that they are NOT allowed to sign themselves out? TIA for an info

When my DS was 12 2 years ago and in the kids program we were told he could sign himself out. We opted NOT for that choice. Instead we got the pager and if he wanted to leave we got paged. By the way we never got paged for him. we got paged once for our DD who was 9 because she was tired. lol If I remember you can't sign yourself out at 9. Hope someone corrects if I am wrong. Tina

You get the pager whether or not they have sign out privileges as long as they are registered in the lab.

We had 10 year olds on our cruise last February and they were NOT going to give us a pager. We insisted we did not want them to have sign out privileges but they kept telling us it was "unusual" to get a pager for them. We did not back down but felt uncomfortable about having to stand our ground to get a pager for them. We signed them up early (around 3:00pm on Saturday) so it wasn't an issue of not having enough pagers.

my grandson 10 went with us this year he.. was 10 we did not let him check out even though he could.. we got a beeper they(dcl) had no concerns they happily gave us one no questions we were on the Wonder. .

My kids were 8 and 10 on our cruise. We let them both sign out as long as they left together. IIRC, we had to grant the 8yo sign out privledge on a special permission form. It was automatic for the 10yo to be able to sign himself out. We had the option of "blocking" the 10yo from signing himself out, if we wanted to, but didn't.

Hope you could follow that.

We cruised 09/02 ... the self sign-out age was 10 ... we purposely moved my 10 y.o. grandson down to the 8-9 y.o. group so he would be with my other grandson (9 y.o.) and we told the counselors that we didn't want the boys checking themselves out.

I thought that all parents get pagers. If you kids have check in and out ability, then they page you with a message saying something like "Johnnie has checked out and is going to the pool". My dd will be 12 when we go next and will not have in and out privileges. In the past, once I've put her in, she never wants to come out. LOL!!

Everyone with a child registered in the kids clubs will get a pager. The sign-out age is 10 years old (and I think you still have to give permission for this) but you can deny them this priviliedge.

If you wish for them not to sign themselves out, all you have to do and let them know when you register your child for the clubs.

Last year, on our cruise, we let our 9yo DD have sign out privledges with pre-established rules. We had the CM's page us with..."DD has signed out going to the pool.." She was only allowed to sign out to go to where we told her we would be when we dropped her off. She didn't use the sign-out privledge once! As you would expect, we had to insist they get out and enjoy the sun, as it was snowing where we live and they wouldn't want to miss the prime swimming time;) To help with your decision, I truly believe it depends on the maturity of your own child on whether you use this service. Good luck!

We cruised this June and let our then 8yo sign himself out. That was the youngest age for signing out privileges. If you do not want your child to have sign out privileges, all you need to do is check the box on the form stating such. HTH
