We are leaving on the Disney Dream in July with our 3 year old grandson. We have taken him on a Disney cruise the past 2 years but never used the nursery. We wanted him to be able to enjoy the ship as much as we did. This year we are doing a longer cruise and thought since he is potty trained we could put him in the oceaneers club so we could enjoy the adult pool area for a little bit (we have never been able to do that). He is an only child, and enjoys playing and being around other kids. Did your kids enjoy the oceaneers club at this age, did they get bored, and did you feel like they were safe? Would love to hear everyones experience with the oceaneers club with kids around this age group. I know there is an open house to check it out, but when is it? Does anyone know what the hours are there? Thanks in advance for your response.

My son is 3 and really outgoing; he has a 9 year old brother that went with him, but I am not sure that that made a huge difference as they had totally different interests.

I recommend explaining everything to him and telling him when you will come back. Also try to coordinate his attendance in the clubs with activities that interest him and keep his time in the club reasonable. For us that meant about an hour.

My son figured out by day 4 that he could get the cast to call us to get him, and he played games with this for day 4-7, so be prepared for that. I was glad that we did Palo before he figured this out!

Also, mornings and just after main seating are best for the little ones in Oceaneers.

There is a welcome party in the Club/Lab the first night for 30 minutes. It is a good idea to ensure that your child attends.

I am not sure how much this will correlate with your experience- it will vary depending on your child and the fellow passengers on the ship. We were on the Magic in Europe which was a very adult-majority cruise for Disney.

On our first cruise our youngest was 3. He loved it so much that he told my wife and I that swimming with dolphins was a bad idea because he would rather have been at the kids club. Boy could I have saved a lot of money. Lol.

Our eldest daughter was 3 on our first cruise. We had only planned for her to visit the oceaneers club once whilst we went to the spa. Our problem was she loved it so much we couldn't get her outand she kept going back and did the friendship rocks show on the main stage.

In 4 weeks our youngest will get to go for the first time, she will also be 3 but this time she'll have her big sister to look after her.

If he is outgoing i am sure he'll do fine.

He should be fine. Go to the open houses on embarkation day and tour the clubs with him, play, talk about how fun it is. Then explain he can go by himself when it's "kids only". It helps if there is an activity he'd be interested in when you drop him off (if you tell the CMs, they'll point him to it).

Here is a hint, if you don't want them to call you for a set amount of time outside of emergencies, just tell them. They will do their best to distract and engage and not call you. Really helpful if you're going to PALO or something.

Thanks for all the wonderful advice! He does not attend preschool or daycare, but loves when we take him to kid things around here. I am sure he will be fine, I will be the grandparent dragging him out of there kicking and screaming.
