We just decided to do a semi-last minute weekend trip to Ocean City, MD. We're planning on leaving home early Friday morning, and staying in OC until Sunday afternoon. We've been before, but it was a few years ago and I can't remember where we stayed, ate, etc.

I know the beach is expensive this time of the year, but I'm hoping not to spend a fortune on this short trip. Any suggestions on hotels? I definitely want to stay on the beach, since we're taking DD (age 2), and I don't want to get into the hassle of trying to cross the busy street with her.

Any suggestions of places to eat that won't break the bank? Thanks for your advice. :)

We always stay at the Dunes Motel www.ocdunes.com - it is at the end of the Boardwalk, oceanfront. To save money we stay in a pool view room - 2 double beds, with small fridge and microwave.

Dumpsers and Dough Roller are 2 of our restaurant favorites. If you have a Entertainment book, you might have a coupon for Shenigan's on the boardwalk - great food and decently priced. We usually eat breakfast and lunch in the room to save $$$.

Just got back this very afternoon from the OC. Poppa Johns Pizza was a great bargin $12 for the large pizza. It depends on what you are looking for dining wise. We always ate breakfast in the room to save $$$. Fresh fruit mini muffins, cereal w/milk. Coffee which came with the room. We stayed at Castle in the Sand which for a week costs $1034 for their efficiency apartment which sleeps 6 but there was only 3 of us. We did notice a lot of places which were more reasonable. Friends of ours got good rates at the Days Inn also right on the beach. You can also buy fresh fruit salads, and makings for sandwiches from the many stores along Coastal highway. they even had a MacDonalds and a Burger King there. Would you believe they deliver???? I brought along a lot of snacks and lunch/brekfast food in a cooler to help keep costs down. ALso brought drinks, water, juices and yes even my DH's Vodka.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. :) I just booked a room at The Dune Motel. Thanks to dthogue for suggesting this place. After reading the name, I remembered that it was the same motel we stayed in a few years ago and liked.

Any other suggestions of places to eat that won't break the bank?

Cant go to OC and not have Thrashers fries (boardwalk pier, boardwalk at 8th street). I always get the blue plate special at Bull on the Beach (94th street). Almost every restaurant in town has happy hour prices on food and drink between 3-6pm, every day. Big Peckers is another good cheap eats. I could go on and on and on with cheap eats. Check Yelp or Trip advisor for more info

We actually just got back last night!

We have previously enjoyed Ponzetti's Pizza (but couldn't fit it in this trip).

This trip we went to Kirby's Red Onion Grille which was fairly reasonable. It was a loud atmosphere but it was clean and I didn't have to worry about the kids being too loud. Our almost-2-year old slept through dinner though. I had the shrimp salad melt on English Muffin and thought it was great! This doesn't help you, but Tues are 1.25 slider nights which would be a great deal for little eaters.

We ate at Dumsers but I didn't *love* my meal (turkey dinner), just the dessert :) It is very kid friendly though.

We haven't had great experiences at Dough Roller, but that was during the off season so perhaps during the summer it is better.

Bring your own things for breakfast, esp if you have a fridge in the room (I'm not familiar with the Dunes). Make PB sandwiches for lunch with fruit and chips then go out for dinner!

Enjoy!!
