ANonsense. A dramatic change in restrictions, enforcement and the practical application of policy as described by MS on mutiple occasions would certainly be a valid complaint. It is absurd to claim otherwise.
The rules are obvious and DVC is not currently enforcing them. They have not rewritten the rules, just not enforced them consistently. Anyone that buys in knows or should know what they are, period. So if DVC all of a sudden starts to enforce the rules as written, one should already know this is a likelihood and be prepared for same. It's like telling the policeman you didn't get a ticket yesterday going 5 mph over the speed limit while he's writing the ticket. IMO it would not be a valid defense and anyone who complained in this situation would be a major whiner in my book. But it is just my opinion.

It's funny to me that DVC members get so wrapped up in these details when there are so many horrific stories out there of dramatic lies with timeshare sales. The bottom line is what's in the contract, period. What a CM said, desk manager or a guide as ZERO meaning otherwise in pleading a case, unless you can actually document it in writing or similar. Even then it's not contractual.

While I am not opposed to a DVC resort in the future having a "specialized" accomodation for 6 people, it really does not fit into our current point configurations...is also is not a "Standard" room type for trading outside of DVC via II or RCI, if DVC continues trade options with these companies...

The above statement might indicate that the "rules" are related more to the Timeshare trading organization rules than anything else.

Just a thought.

I think the referenced statement is referring more to specialized rooms like 1 BR sleep 6 units, not occupancy limits per se. The occupancy rules are related to several things to include fire codes, resort density, parking, pool usage, wear and tear as well as sleeping arrangements. I'm sure there are other factors as well including the desire to sell more points. What II and RCI do is to take a unit and rate it based on total sleeping capacity and private sleeping capacity. Plus the destination resort (DVC in this case) has the ability to limit number of people occupying an exchanged unit and can make it less than their stated capacity if they chose. Anyone that has looked at the II listings for DVC is aware that II really doesn't have a handle on this issue. They list more unit types at some of the resorts than exist. For example, they list studios at both OKW and BWV as 2/2 and 2/4. There is only one studio type at OKW and BWV has lockoff and dedicated studios but the sleeping capacity and set up is the same except for the small day bed.

I have been watching/reading this thread ever since I posted what I thought was an innocent question about accomodating my family of 5, and it got tacked onto the end of this thread. I appreciate that there are a variety of opinions, including those opinions that conflict with mine. Mostly, I find it interesting and constructive. Sometimes, though, I'm not sure if I should laugh, be angry or feel insulted. That probably just depends on how good/bad the rest of my day is going ;)

I don't understand the reasoning of wanting to make broad insulting statements about how other people should spend their money or where they should spend their vacation. Since I am now feeling both angry and insulted, I guess today wasn't the best day for me to read some of these posts.

MARCIAKAZ, you can get a lot of good, constructive information from the people on these boards. However, there are those who are not happy unless everyone else vacations exactly as they do. After reading these boards for a short while, you get to know who they are and can take their recommendations ( or not ) for what they are worth. I wouldn't feel angry or insulted. Enjoy your trip!

I have a ressie for studio at the BWV's. Its for my wife, two kids (9 and 5) and me. I was also thinking of taking my mother-in-law. Would the BWV's strickly enforce the 4 person limit? How about in a one-bedroom?

Welcome to the DIS and DVC! As you will see, this is a hot topic item here on the board. Please refer to this thread, and you will find answers/opinions regarding your question.

Call MS and find out. Let them make the final decision, not us here on the boards.

Now personally, 5 in a studio is too much, while 5 in a 1 bedroom would be fine for me, room wise. Good luck.

Before you decide, thought I would remind you of the bedding available in the BWV studios and 1 beroom units.

In a studio you will find one queen bed and a sleeper sofa. The DVC resorts do not provide cots, rollaways or even extra bedding to accomodate more than the stated maximum for the unit. Forboth the studios and the 1 bedrooms the stated max is 4 prsons plus a child under the age of 3. A portable Pac 'n Play crib is provided for the infant.

In the 1 bedroom, you will find a king bed in the bedroom and a sleeper sofa in the living room.

Both types of units have only one bathroom.

Best wishes -

I am considering buying points for a stay at OKW from 4/23 to 4/30/05. We are two adults and three kids, 14, 8 and 6. Would a 1BR Villa be enough space and beds, or do we need a 2BR?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

This is a sticky topic. No, you will not have enough beds, but many people say that MS does not mind if you put 5 people into a 4 person unit. They will not give you an extra roll away or anything, so some poeple bring an air matress. You will only have a king sized bed in the master and a fold out couch in the living room. We have 4 kids and love the 2 bedroom unit, but I understand it is a lot more points that some folks don't have or want to use. You will get much debate on this, but you have to decide what is best for your family. We like our space!!!! We don't have a lot of points right now but we make it work to get the 2 bedroom, having 2 baths is a must for us!!!

No, you need a two bedroom. Occupancy limits for a 1 bedroom are 4 plus a child under 3 who can sleep in the provided Pac-N-Play. The only beds are a king in the master and a queen pull out in the living room. You will also only have one bathroom, and that is not easy with 5 people.

We stayed in a 1bdrm last year with 5 people and it was fne it would be better if the master had 2 beds rather than 1 king but it stil worked out great. We took an airbed with us and blew it up for one person to sleep on.

DVC will let you have 5 in a br with no problem and give you an extra key as well. They will not supply extra bedding.

Question for you is - are you willing to have 1 bathroom for 5 people for 1 week or so at a time? If you are, then 1br is enough!

We are staying 5 in a 1BR for four nights beginning tomorrow the 15th. DH, DW, DD's 10, 10, 7 the 7 yr old will sleep in the king with DH and DW...if it was for any more than 4 nights and anywhere but OKW, we would do the 2BR. We are going on a cash ressie.

I'm not trying to be contrary, but I know many families that have only one bathroom in their regular homes and seem to get by.

True, but due to the nature of family vacations in general - and WDW vacations particularly - most family members will be heading out to the parks, etc. at the same time, and having only 1 Bath can lead to significan bottle-necks.

DW grew up in a family of 5 - MIL, FIL and 3 daughters - and only one bathroom, but they managed that by staggering access time over two hours in the morning. I'm not sure that this is a solution for many folks on vacation....

If the biggest deal on a vacation is bathroom time, then I would say overall things are probably going pretty well, LOL! And as I recall, all of my children went to the same school and had to be ready at the same time as I was getting ready for work. Goodness gracious, times were hard back in the old days!

We have bathroom time also my daughters take a shower with mom and my little guy hops in with me. While I am in the shower the wife is making breakfast when we get out we eat then go to the parks it really isn't much of a hassle.

We had 5 in a studio (youngest was just barely 4) and it was my 13 y/o daughter that slept on an air mattress, not the youngest one (he shared a bed w/his brother). I checked with Disney and, like they said above, they said it was fine, but they would not supply linens for the 5th person. We did fine in the studio, so I'm sure you'd be totally fine in a one bedroom.
