Obstructed verandah view rooms

We're planning our next Disney cruise -- sadly, not until 2006, but at least we have one in the works! DH says that he MUST have a verandah on the next cruise, so . . .

I noticed on disneycruiseindex.com that there are four category 7 rooms that have "obstructed verandahs" -- and they sell for category 6 rates. This sounds like a great deal to me.

Real category 6s are not a choice for us because (correct me if I'm wrong) they ALL sleep only three people.

Has anyone stayed in one of these obstructed verandah rooms? They're numbers 7120, 7620, 6634, and 6134. I need to know whether they will sleep FOUR PEOPLE.

Thanks!

Are the four people all adults?

When we were on the cruise last June we had a catagory 6 and it was one queen bed, a sofa that converts to a bed and a bed that comes down from the ceiling. I'm not sure how sturdy the bed in the ceiling was, but my 9 year old slept in that one.

I don't think you would have a problem in a catagory six and you get the verandah without an obstruction.:wave2:

Those staterooms were Category 6 and have been reclassed as Category 7 staterooms. They only accommodate three people.

We have a Cat 6 booked for our October 2004 cruise and it sleeps 4
My in-laws have an Obstructed Veranda Room booked for the same cruise 6134 and it only sleeps 3

There are regular catagory 6 rooms that hold 4 people.....the ones that were reclassified only hold 3 so you would need to book a regular one that holds four people.

Hmmm . . . I'm looking at the "official" Disney Cruise pamphlet, and it clearly says that all category 7s (the Navigator window verandahs) sleep only 3. So much for accuracy!

So, here's a rephrased question: Since I now know that I can go for a category 6 or 7, would you choose the obstructed view cabin (we're not talking about secret portholde rooms -- we're talking about the obstructed view rooms in which there's just a corner missing from the view) or a Navigator window? The price would be the same.

By the way, the four people are two adults and two children (who will be ages 9 and 12 -- the 9 year old is tiny -- no problem with the bunk bed).

If the catagory 6 and 7 are the same price, I would go for the catagory 6 and get the verandah with no obstruction. The catagory six does not have a porthole, it is a verandah. I hope this helps.:)

Mrs. Pete,
If you have four people in your party, you can't book a Cat. 7 cabin as those only sleep three people...there is no pull-down bed in Cat. 7 cabins. The reclassified verandah rooms (6134, 6634, 7120, 7620) are also Cat. 7, so they also only sleep three people. You would need to book a Cat. 6 or lower (6,5,4, etc.) if you want a verandah room.
:D

To further clarify what JOC just said, most category 5 and 6 rooms sleep 4, but some only sleep 3. The rooms which were originally category 7's (the "standard" Navigator's verandah rooms) only sleep 3. In addition, those rooms which were once cat. 5 (7120, 7620) and cat. 6 (6134, 6634) but were re-classified as category 7's also only sleep 3.

You would need to book a category 6 or above. The only question of obstruction on these rooms is that the rooms further aft have a solid metal railing as opposed to the plexiglass barrier on the rooms further forward. There is no difference in price with these rooms.

I have one of the partially obstructed view rooms for the December 13th eastern, I will let you know how it was :)

some place here lately that those pulll down thingys that come out of the ceiling beds hold weight of up to 220 lbs...:)

We were in cabin 7118 this past September and it was the last full view verandah before the partially obstructed ones started. I looked over at that verandah and the obstruction, in my opinion was minimal. I would book that cabin if it was cheaper than the regular veranda rooms.

There seems to be a lot of confusion on this thread. I'll try to see if I can clear up the confusion rather than make it worse...

6134 and 6634 were formerly Category <b><i>6</i></b> staterooms.

7120 and 7620 were formerly Category <b><i>5</i></b> staterooms.

All four of these staterooms are now priced as Category 7's due to the fact that they have minimal obstruction across part of their verandahs. If you are trying to figure out what kind of obstruction this might be, refer to my FAQ entry about these rooms...

www.dcltribute.com/faq/obstructedviews.htm

None of the "traditional" Category 7 staterooms sleep more than three people. None of these "reclassified" Category 7 staterooms sleep more than 3 people. If you need to book four people in your stateroom, you'll need to consider another category. If you need to book <i><b>five</b></i> people in your stateroom, you'll need to consider Categories 1, 2, 3, or 4. If you need to book more than five people in your stateroom, you'll need to consider Categories 1 or 2 (or, of course, multiple staterooms).

But you also need to consider that aft staterooms in Categories 3, 4, 5, & 6 may also have obstructed-view verandahs... the aft staterooms have solid steel verandah railings, so you can only see the see over the level of the railing. If you want a verandah with a transparent verandah railing, you'll need to stay away from these aft cabins. I have a FAQ entry that lists which staterooms have which kind of verandah...

www.dcltribute.com/faq/outsiderooms.htm

Also, since the question came up about a weight limit on the pull-down berths... yes, the weight limit is 100 kg (220 pounds). If you want more details about the pull-down berth (available only in staterooms that sleep 4 or more people), refer to my FAQ entry about them...

I hope this helps.

We just booked 7120 for our july eastern, we have a family of 5 so we have a cat 11 across the hall too.

We only had enough dvc points for up to cat 7, we were so excited to get room 7120, because we feel it is in all respects still a cat 5!!

Y'all have thoroughly confused me! This thread is filled with too many numbers for an English teacher. Let me make sure I have this right:

The obstructed view rooms (such as room 7120) are not an option for us because they only sleep three people -- and we are a family of four. The least expensive verandah option for us is a category 6.

Whew. Do I have it right now?

Yes, you are correct. The least expensive verandah option for a family of 4 is a category 6 cabin.
