Obsessive Planner, Paitent Hubby & Fantastic Friends are going to WDW! *UPDATE 4/6

Good luck with sorting out your plans - it sure is difficult to plan when you have so many unanswered questions :rolleyes1

Hopefully, everything will come together soon. Don't worry about changing ADRs - think everyone more or less has to do it as a result of things out of our control!

Yay on planning some down town for the two of you after your friends have left - it'll be nice to have that time together.

I do feel a bit responsible in that I really want Zaheer to enjoy this trip - partly so we can plan another one! :rotfl: However, I am going in with the thinking that things may not go according to plan and I should be willing to accept that things may change. No matter what I am certain that we will come back with great memories and am sure the same will happen for you :goodvibes

Thank you :) I know that things will get off course, they always do a little lol, I know that you and Zaheer will have a wonderful trip too! It's Disney a day there is better than a day anywhere else :thumbsup2. I was really worried about our first trip because while I knew I would love WDW (I am a fairytale and pixie dust kind of girl) DH can be more down to earth and cynical. The Disney bug bit him too and now he loves it almost as much as I do!! You have done the right thing by coming to these boards. They saved me my first trip with the amount of information that I found.

There is no perfect trip, although it would be nice.

I love Disney restaurants but ADR's drive me nuts sometimes lol.

No problem :) I have the same worry - I know I will love it but Zaheer is more like your DH so am a bit unsure of how he will react. I am hoping he will get the Disney bug!! These boards are great - think I came across them accidentally whilst searching how to rent DVC points but now am soo thankful that I found out about them! :worship:

That is so funny because I also found the DIS looking into renting DVC points.:lmao:

Loving your PTR so far and can't wait to read more.popcorn::

I would love to stay at AKL sometime, the thought of waking up in the morning and seeing the animals out my window make me weak in the knees.:cloud9: Just recently though I have come to love the idea of staying at BLT. It had me at viewing Wishes from the patio of your room:love:

Yes, I do feel that I am responsible for our trip to be fantastic. But since it is just me and my son I think I will be OK.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Hi readers :)

I am still obsessing about ADR's, is anyone shocked? :rolleyes1 lol

Here are the meals I know that we defiantly want to do, I am just not sure what order I am going to try to get them in yet.

Breakfasts

Boma - I love Boma! If there was a t-shirt that said "I heart Boma" I would be the first in line to buy it  DH likes it but I don't think that he loves it in quite the same way I do.

Tusker House - We ate here last trip and both thought that the breakfast was fantastic. Plus, it allows me to meed the characters without standing in line.

O'Hana - This is another meal that lived up to the hype for us. We both really enjoyed the breakfast and you can't beat having a view of the Magic Kingdom.

Dinners

Le Cellier - This is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere. I had heard all the hype and was pleasantly surprised that most of it was true.

Whispering Canyon Cafe' - This restaurant is so fun! The food is decent. DH loves the food, I think the food is good but what I like most about it is that it is in the Wilderness Lodge. I love WL, it is a nice place to walk around and explore.

Via Napoli - DH favorite food is pizza. I like it too just not as much as him. I think that if pizza were a woman then I would have a competition on my hands for his attention. :lmao: With that being said we both are really looking forward to eating here as it will be our first time.

La Hacienda - I can't wait to eat here. The pics are inviting and I can't wait to try it. I am really hoping we get a table with a view of Illuminations.

ESPN Cafe' - DH loves sports and ESPN. We ate here on our first trip and the food is pretty good but he loves the atmosphere. While I usually say that ESPN was invented to drive my crazy, I think that because it is at Disney I actually enjoy this restaurant too. It's true what they say, "Disney makes everything better." ;)

Possibles

Narccossee's - We ate here for our anniversary on our first trip. The food is really good, and so is the atmosphere. The service wasn't fantastic but I really want to give it another try since the food is so good. DH is skeptical but says if we can fit it in then he will give it another shot.

Jiko - We have never been to Jiko. We both really like steak and I have heard that their filet is wonderful. I really want to eat here, I am just not sure without over planning us that it will be feasible.

O'Hana for dinner - Since we both love the breakfast so much I really want to try the dinner. I am trying to talk DH into it. He is a little resistant as he is a meat and potatoes kind of guy.

Rainforest Cafe' - We both really like the atmosphere here and I know that it gets a bad rep. It is overpriced but the food has been really good both times we have eaten at the one in AK. We don't have one near us so it is special to us and not an everyday type thing. I may work in a lunch here when we are at AK.

Well there are the restaurants.

I would love to hear your thoughts. Does anyone have any suggestions that I didn't mention?

Question of the Day: What is your favorite Disney restaurant?

I will go off topic a bit here and share our Atlanta itinerary with you. We leave tomorrow for our mini getaway.

Friday, April 1st
DH birthday

7:00 AM - DH wants to leave home by 7:00 AM :scared1:
I would prefer to leave around 8:00 or 9:00 but he is the birthday boy so I am going to humor him.

2:00 PM - Arrive in Atlanta, meet Cyn and Will, go to the mall to the Disney Store to pick up our pre-ordered copy of Tangled and do a little shopping.

5:00 PM - Dinner I can't remember the name of the place :rolleyes1

7:30 PM - It is Peter Pan time! I can't wait to see this play!

Saturday, April 2nd

Not sure about times yet, I think we are just going to take our time and relax.

Breakfast - Dunkin' Doughnuts

The Atlanta Zoo

Lunch - The Varsity

The World of Coke

Dinner - The Vortex - Robbie's choice for Birthday dinner. Adam Richman on the Travel channel mentioned this place on one of the "Man vs. Food" shows. DH loves the show so when we decided to plan the trip over his birthday this was his one must do.

Dad's Garage - for an Improv comedy show.

Sunday, April 3rd

Sleep in

Shop and hit the Ikea store

Drive home to get ready for work on Monday

We are going to have a busy weekend but I can't wait!! I will do a mini TR here when we get back.

I hope you all have a magical weekend!!!

:welcome: I am glad that you joined me

I would love to stay at BLT or the CR. That is defiantly part of my Disney buckets list. I think next year, we will rent DVC points. It just seems like you get more for the money that way. I did get lucky with a PIN this year or I would have probably done that this year lol

Have you rented DVC before? If so was it a good experience?

No, not yet. This our second trip to Disney and last time we stayed at GKTW in Kissimee. I was looking into it for this trip but I am using the Kids Stay and Play for free special which is saving me a lot of money on my sons park tickets so here I am.:rotfl2: Maybe for my DD trip in 2013? I think she would really appriciate AKL and BLT for their great views. Plus I am trying to convince a friend to go with us with her DD and split the room cost.:thumbsup2

Splitting the cost is a great idea. If our friends were staying the entire time with us we would have probably tried to rent DVC this year and split the cost.

That's great that you got a terrific promo that saved you money. Disney is so expensive that without some kind of discount it makes it hard to afford. I have to say that it may be the only place that I have ever spent that much money on and walked away saying it was some of the best money I ever spent and worth every penny. Yeap, I am totally sipping the kool-aid :lmao:

Sounds like you have some great ADRs lined up :thumbsup2

Hope you have a great weekend - look forward to reading all about it :)

Mmmm. That kool-aid sounds good, can I have. . .Just one second. . .:drinking1. . .never mind, I already have some.:lmao:

We are renting DVC points for our stay at the BWV. With a family of 5 there was not a lot of options that were affordable on site for us. The kids really wanted POP, but I was not sold on the price of 2 rooms and they cannot guarantee that the rooms would be ajoining...not happening! I stayes at POR-Riverside last summer after a conference...while it is a nice resort I just was not sold on the location. That left us with a family suite at All Sports...which I just did not like or a jr suite at another moderate and I just was not impressed with them...next would be deluxe and it was beyond my budget...so I found a person to rent points from...exactly where I wanted to be in the Epcot area! I am so excited about staying on the Boardwalk...I fell in love with the area last summer :love:and now I get to stay here, for about $500 more than POR! Here is crossing my fingers that all works out correctly with the rental...it is paid for in full!

Question of the Day: For all you planners out there, do you feel responsible for the fun of everyone in your party?

Your PTR title drew me in, as I am also an Obsessive Planner with a Patient Hubby, LOL! Glad to be along for your journey.

I know exactly how you're feeling. My family (me, DH, and our 2 DDs) has been to WDW twice... first was back in 2007 and it was just the 4 of us. Our second trip was just last October and along for the trip was DH's brother, his wife, and their two kids. NONE of them had ever been to WDW before, so they left everything up to me to plan! Which was fine by me, as I was in my element! But on the flip side, I did feel as though everything I planned (what parks to visit on each day, where to eat, what attractions to do first, etc) was under scrutiny and if they didn't have a good time then it would be all my fault! :guilty:

Luckily, we had a great week and they all said they had a good time. My family is one of early-risers... we were up early and ready to go every morning in time to be at the parks for opening. The others joined us for two days, but then didn't want to get up so early. So they slept in while we headed out early, and we met up later in the parks when they got there. While that did throw a wrench in my itinerary, it wasn't anything too major that we couldn't work around.

Hi there! I'm following you over from my PTR and joining in! :goodvibes

First off, I must say I think you made the right choice in picking POFQ. Up until this point it has been my favorite disney resort by far. I stayed there a lot as a child, so that could be one of the reasons why I love it, but it just has so much charm. I love that it's a relatively small resort and it is so romantic in the evenings! :cloud9: I think you will love it. :thumbsup2

I hope you had fun on your weekend trip to Atlanta! I live about 20 miles north of Atlanta and work downtown and I can actually see the Peter Pan tent out of my work window, so I've been very curious about the show! I can't wait to hear what you thought.

Oh, and one last thing - you will love La Hacienda! We just tried it for the first time in November and were very happy with our meal there. I just posted about our experience in my November TR (link is in my sig). It's under Day 5 - Pt. 4 if you want to check it out. :goodvibes

Hey there! Loving the PTR! I love all of your restaurant picks, those are some of our faves too! :thumbsup2

I'm just going to answer the latest question of the day: What is your favorite Disney restaurant??

Answer: This is soooo difficult!!! I love them all!!! But if I had to pick I would say that Garden Grill is my favorite. I know, not what you usually hear, but I had an excellent experience here in January and I cannot WAIT to go back in August!!! :woohoo: The food was hot, fresh and delicious, the service was wonderful, and the character interaction was some of the best we received that entire trip, and definitely THE best out of all 4 of the character meals that we did. :yay: We were seated less than 2 minutes after we checked in as well, so that was great. Overall just a wonderful place. :goodvibes

Sounds like you have some great ADRs lined up :thumbsup2

Hope you have a great weekend - look forward to reading all about it :)

Thanks :)
We had a nice time. I am super tired, I am going to try to update tomarrow :thumbsup2

Good luck! That is really great that you were able to get Boardwalk so affordable! If we decide to upgrade if our beach trip falls through I think that we are going to try and go with Boardwalk too :thumbsup2 We considered POR at first but it looks like such a large resort. I like that FQ seems more intimate.

I am glad to hear that the trip went well. I feel like everything is being left up to me too. Which yes in a way I like and in a way scares me lol.

DH and I are early risers too and our friends like to sleep in, so I am sure that is going to be what happens.

:welcome: I am glad you are joining me! I am really excited about POFQ! We looked at all the moderates in detail and fell in love with the pics. We have a great TA that at first it wasn't available with my PIN code but he called back several times and worked some magic.

We did have a really good time! It was the first time we had spent any time in Atlanta. That is really cool that you can see the tent from work. I bet you have a great view. Peter Pan was great! I will give more detail on it when I update. If you get the chance I really think it is worth seeing. Tinkerbell was really funny!

I am glad to hear you had a good experience there. I am going to work on getting caught up on all my reading (well reading trip reports :rolleyes1) tonight. I will defiantly go and read about your experience.

They only serve dinner, but the food is wonderful and although it seems to be very popular, it never seems crowded or noisy to us. :thumbsup2

Hello there :) I decided to stop in and check out your PTR since you found our frumpy TR, and I just wanted to let you know that I love it!

And I am an obsessive planner too. So I'll give you my insight on everything so far!

First of all, I think it's POR is a great decision. If it fits your budget better, then I would definitely go with it! Disney needs more Moderate resorts because sometimes that middle price is just SO much more manageable.

However, if you have the opportunity, I would consider going deluxe. Or weigh it out with other opportunities you can take such as more TS's or souvenirs or whatever.

As for the food.... Disney food is my OBSESSION. I love it. So... here's my opinions on your chocies:

Boma - I have never been to Boma but I hope to try it soon! I just saw some pictures of the breakfast buffet and it looks FANTASTIC!

Tusker House - I've never been here for breakfast. But if it's as good as the lunch, I'm sure it's wonderful!

O'Hana - The last time I went to O'hana for breakfast was in 2004. But I remember enjoying it! Yum!

Le Cellier - This is usually my lunch spot, however, I'm sure it's great at Dinner! Even though there's a lot of negative reviews about LC lately, I still love it. I hate when people bash it. :( The chocolate mousse is my FAVORITE!!

Whispering Canyon Cafe' - Whispering Canyon is delicious. I really want to try the s'mores cheesecake. I never knew about it until recently and now I want to go back there!

Via Napoli - This was going to be my #1 suggestion! (well I actually have two #1 suggestions LOL) But I went here in February and it was the family favorite. We went there on our first night and it was a great way to kick off the vacation!!

La Hacienda - I never went here... but I saw a picture of the Tilapia and the Apple Turnover and they've been stuck in my head since. I may have to try it. I don't even know if I like Tilapia! But it looked great!

ESPN Cafe' - My dad and my brother love it here too! Their chicken wings are good if I remember correctly!

Possibles:

Narccossee's - I have just flat out never been here and I don't know anything about it :rotfl: Sorry

Jiko - That Filet Mingon with Mac and Cheese is stuck in my mind too. It looks so good!!

O'Hana for dinner - This is my other #1 reccomendation. BOOK O'HANA FOR DINNER! Seriously. They have steak... if that can persuade your DH. It is so so so so so so so so so soooooo good. And that bread pudding... mmmm :cloud9:

Rainforest Cafe' - I just went here in January and it was really good! It's not at the top of my list but I rated in a 5/5 because the whole dining experience was great!

So yes. Those are my opinions :lmao: I love doing little reviews of Disney restaurants.

My favorites are O'hana and Via Napoli.

OH! If you need another breakfast idea, go to Kona. SUPER amazing. Tonga Toast and Pineapple Macadamia Pancakes are to die for.

And I agree with Kristen. Garden Grill is great! Yummmmm!

So yes. :)

Alright this post is probably ridiculously long. But... I am loving your PTR so far! :thumbsup2

Hi Diser’s,

I apologize for the lack of updates this week. We have been super tired after our mini vacation this weekend to Atlanta.

I am almost set on my ADR’s my itinerary should be finished in the next few days.

I found out that a local theater is going to be doing Disney’s Beauty and the Beast! I am super excited. DH and I have free tickets we can use on any performance this year. So we are going to make a night of it with our friends Karen and Nick. Beauty and the Beast is Karen’s favorite princess movie. I can’t wait!

Atlanta Trip Report - PT 1A

Friday Part 1

We got up bright and early on Friday morning. We stopped by McDonald’s and got a quick breakfast. My mom works at a bank and wanted us to stop by before we left to tell her bye. She accidentally let it slip to me that their dog, who is also part my dog, had a heart attack a few days before. She is okay now but my dad didn’t want to tell us before we left because he wanted us to have a good time. I was a little unhappy that they didn’t tell me when it happened but I understand he didn’t want to worry me. After my tiny melt down over my dog, and saying good bye to my mom we finally left around 8:30.

Sorry, I didn’t take any pics from the road. Although I did make Robb listen to Disney podcasts most of the way down. :lmao: We had an uneventful drive for the most part until around 1:30. We decided to stop for a bathroom break on a stretch of interstate that for 10 miles or so there were no exits. We finally came up on one. We stopped in a gas station too to get some gas. By this point I was thirsty and hungry.

I mentioned to DH that I was hungry I wanted to pick up a snack and something to drink. He said he saw a McDonald’s on the way in and tempted me with a nice big cup of sweet tea. So I said okay I won’t get anything here and we will go over there. When we got there the parking lot was crazy crowded and there wasn’t anywhere to park, I suggested we just go through the drive through but DH says it’s too crowded too. I said fine just go then. :headache:

I knew I was getting irritable with him but I was so thirsty and getting pretty hungry by this point. In the midst of our little tiff he takes the wrong exit to get on to the interstate and gets turned around. So we have to back track for 10 miles.

I didn’t realize how close we were to Cyn’s house and was determined to be grumpy (yeap I was channeling the Grumpy from Snow White) the rest of the way which in actuality was only another 30 minutes. I thought we were still an hour or more away. The map I had gotten off the internet was in accurate on the time and we were much closer than I thought. :woohoo:

We said our hellos to Cyn and Will and then unpacked the car. She gave us the tour of the house and introduced us to her two kitties, Dexter and Willowbee. (Dexter is the grey and white kitty and Willowbee is the white kitty.

Then we all headed out to Chipotle Mexican Grill for some lunch. I just have to say that this place is terrific! DH and I shared a burrito because we were going to Pinkberry afterward to get dessert. I think it was the best burrito I have ever had.

Next we went for a frozen treat at Pinkberry. I did have to have a pic of my yummy dessert. I had the chocolate ice cream with mango, strawberries, cheesecake bites, toasted almonds, and chocolate shavings. It was super yummy! I wish we had one of these close to our house. DH had the same thing minus the mango and strawberries.

(My yummy treat)

We had planned to go to the mall in Kennesaw to pick up my pre-ordered copy of Tangled but we were running low on time and needed to freshen up before going to see Peter Pan. So we headed back to Cyn’s house to get cleaned up for our evening out.

Sorry I didn’t have a ton of pics for this part of the TR, I promise my Disney TR will be full.

UP next: Peter Pan and Café Intermezzo

Tune in tomorrow (hopefully) to find out what we thought of Peter Pan.

Question of the Day: What is your favorite Disney character and why?

Popping in to say "hi." We will also be at the POFQ in November -- the 1st through 8th. And I am in obsessive planning mode while DH's eyes glaze over every time he hears me utter the word "Disney." He simply does not understand why I am doing so much hardcore planning when the trip is 7 months away! :rotfl2:

I look forward to reading more about your plans!

:welcome: Thank you for joining me. Have you stayed at POFQ before? This will be our first time there.

I love that you say your DH eyes glaze over, my DH eyes do that sometimes too. He dosen't understand why I just can decide and stick with something :rolleyes1

That is half the fun in planning though, considering your vacation from all angles :lmao:

Thanks! :goodvibes

They only serve dinner, but the food is wonderful and although it seems to be very popular, it never seems crowded or noisy to us. :thumbsup2

I will check out a menu, thank you for the suggestion Kristen!

:thumbsup2

:welcome: Thank you for joining me! I am loving your trip report, it looks like you all had a fantastic time!!

There is nothing wrong with a long post especially when it is about food :rotfl2: I appreciate all the suggestions.

I am defiantly going to use the steak at O'Hana as a selling point for DH for dinner, thanks for the tip :thumbsup2

We have done breakfast at Kona and I loved it!
