OK, I just realized that I am a little too obsessed with getting my sensor clean. I had one nasty chunk of dust bothering me, so I bought a Dust-Aid kit to get it. It was just not moving with my Rocket Blower :headache: So anyway, I got it with my first try. Then as I am inspecting the image, I see another (much smaller) piece right in the middle of the frame :scared1: So, I repeat the procedure. I got it :thumbsup2 THEN, I notice yet another piece of dust in the top left of the frame  Instead of jumping back into another round, I went ahead and looked at it on the computer. It is a grand total of four pixels across at f/22 :rotfl2: I think I had better stop before I overdo this obsession. That little piece will be a breeze to clone out in the RAW processing. At least I had the camera for three years before having to do a physical sensor cleaning.

"Today boys and girls, we're going to discuss..... OCD!!!! YAY!!!!! The first step is to say 'I realize I have a problem.' " :lmao: Trust me, I know what you mean. I think I probably photoshop more and clean less just because I'm nervous about getting MORE dust on the sensor, but it's only like one area.

I feel for you. I buy a box of sensor swabs and cleaner. One sensor clean session and half the sensor swabs are used. I will not stop until it is all gone. I cannot stop until it is all gone. The dust must go, the dust must go, the dust must go (please chant with me).

My technique is quicker, cheaper, and easier. Take a cup of ice cold distilled water (must be distilled). Drink half the cup and swish and spit the other half. Now, with your fresh, clean tongue, lick the sensor clean.

Don't try this when you have a cold.

Ok Mark, I tried your technique but I just learned that I did in fact have a cold. Now all my pictures are green/yellow-ish and blurry.

What's next? Perhaps some Mucinex? Please advise as I am running out of dust free kleenex!

Smoochies, (well maybe not this week!)

Obsessed with dust!!!

I thought I was going to see macro photos of dust particles.
Maybe dust in different shapes, a mickey head here, a yeti there, maybe a dust pile in the shape of a cloud.

Wow Mark! You must be related to Gene Simmons or something.

Canon has a relatively large mount. Combine that with a full frame camera and there is much more room to shove your face into the camera, which reduces the need for a telephoto tongue. It's the main reason why I went with Canon.

If you have a Canon office near you, they will clean your senors free of charge.

I used to obsess about keeping my lenses clean. I don't worry about it much anymore. Cleaning the sensor has not been an issue in the D700 or my sold off D200 and I change lenses FREQUENTLY. I think I made the D700 self clean once to just try it. :rotfl:

There is a smudge some where on the D700 but I think it is on the mirror since it shows up regardless of the mounted lens but the spot does not show up in a photo. Not a big deal.

Having said that...... :);), this last trip to WDW we were on the Safari ride at AK early in the morning. As we drove past one of the bull elephants the sun light was low and just off to the side of my lens. A bunch of spots/stars showed up in the photos. I can't tell if that was because of the light hitting the front of the lens just so or if the elephant had tossed some hay and filling the air with dust. It looks like little star/sparkles. Maybe it was pixie dust? :rotfl2:

The spots with the elephant photo are kinda moot though. Not sure what I would do with the photos at least on a family site. Lets just say that in all of the photos the elephant was showing his Bullness. And in one photo I was amazed to see that the Bull's trunk was able to itch/blow certain body parts..... :scared1::eek::cool2::lmao::rotfl2::worship:

Maybe that is why there was so much "pixie dust" in the air.....

I did not notice the Bullness of the Bull or what he was doing when I took the photos. I was kinda amazed when I made my first pass through the photos from the trip. ;)

Later,
Dan
