Very magical for daughter (4) first trip to Disney World.

1) Crowds were low. Utilized early mornings, fast pass +, lines app from touring plans and never waited more than 18 minutes for any ride the entire trip. Did virtually all rides and all headliners but Space Mountain (had fast pass but chickened out) and Test Track (40 minute line scared us away)

2) Staffing was never a concern. Not once at any point during the trip did the number of people staffed impact us in any way. There was always someone available within 20 feet. No rude staff members. 3 out of 4 were extremely customer focused and friendly. Bag checks were largely no wait.

3) Cleanliness was good to fair. Did find one elevator with a spilled drink, and the monorails are starting to smell stale. All trash cans were properly emptied and all restrooms were clean.

4) JTA training allowed before PPO breakfast. Free use fast pass also provided. Signing up for JTA meant we were not done with breakfast at rope drop.

5) Renting stroller very much recommended. Daughter has not used stroller in over a year, but could not have survived walking. Rented stroller from outside vendor allowed the use all the way back to room + significantly more comfortable. Only time picked up daughter was to see something.

6) Not one rude guest the entire trip.

7) Character meals recommended. Feet and legs are consumable asset. Waiting for characters to come to you is enormously better than waiting in line for them. Character lines are usually the slowest and most boring lines to stand in. Many are outside or not in themed areas. Daughter met 32 different characters (some multiple times). Mickey Mouse was her favorite by end of week.

8) Dining plan worked well with stacking of all character meals. A ton of food. Snack credits could not be consumed fast enough. As a normally healthy eater, found table service meals easier on stomach than counter service. A day of counter service = heart burn. Financially broke even, however the psychological impact of not freaking out on a $14 hamburger that looked like a hockey puck should not be underestimated.

9) Disney Magic did happen half a dozen times by staff (most small but one big thing/will not give details). Also brought self-made Disney magic to give out about a half-dozen times (for example made some letters from Rapunzel that showed up at end of each day). Recommend make your own Disney magic, expect nothing, and be amazed when something happens.

10) Ride tolerance for 4 year old was learned by both kid and parent on fly. Found out she did not like dark rides. Loved Splash Mountain, terrified of Tower of Terror, Expedition Everest was on the border. Bailed on Space Mountain once we saw Tower of Terror reaction. Every child will be different.

11) For 4 year old daughter, rides > characters > shows. Still enjoyed shows, but limited to 5-6. Favorite ride was Toy Story Midway Mania. Most of Fantasy land was well received. MK favorite park.

12) 6:30AM was our conservative leave room in time for PPO breakfast. Most busses started rolling 6:45 to 7:00. For Animal Kingdom we were 21st in line. For Magic Kingdom we were around 30th in line. For Hollywood Studios, we were 5th in line and first in park. Could have probably left a few minutes later, but I like the 6:30 target to start walk. Boards at bus stop that told time of bus to arrival were awesome.

13) Not one alligator sighting. Daughter liked playing in sand on beach. Not very crowded and peaceful. Weather largely perfect last week. No rain, 70s in day. A little chilly in evening needed coat.

14) Did not get wet on Pirates. Minimal signs of water in boat.

It is always nice to hear positive things.
My family also provide some Disney magic. We have tons of lanyards from previous trips, and give one to a child here and there with a trading pin attached. They love it!

NIce report!
I'm curious- what do you mean about JTA that you got a free fast pass? Is this new? were you able to sign up for JTA before your breakfast?

Yes, we had a PPO breakfast at Hive and Vine. We went straight from front gate to JTA sign ups at 8:00 AM (9:00AM park opening), signed up and received a free anytime fast pass. We then went to get in line for breakfast check in, but did not get through breakfast until 9:10AM. Signing up before breakfast and the fast pass are inconsistent, but as of last week they did allow early sign ups and provide a free fast pass for the trouble/line.

Taking a 4yo DD in 2 weeks....did you do mid-day breaks? If not, how long was she able to go?

Sometimes. I went with a busy day followed by light day approach. I also viewed each day as three segments, early morning 8-12, mid afternoon 12-4, early evening 4-8. As general rule, tried to limit to no more than 2 out of 3 on any given day (first day was an exception due to excitement).

First day she went commando and did opening to park closure at AK (did not expect that, but excitement was overwhelming).
2nd day she was tired, we slept in, arrived at park around noon and left early 4:00ish. She was noticeably tired from first day is why we left at 4:00 and got a good night sleep.
3rd day we did opening, took a break at 11:30, took a nap, and came back around 4:00PM and stayed late.
4th day we slept in, swam, nap, and did not go to park until 2-3 in afternoon and stayed until 8:00PM.
5th day we did opening until 3-4PM. She was tired, we went back and swam, ate in the room, and went to bed early
6th day slept in, swam in the morning for an hour, and went to park around 1:00 until 8:00PM.

It was about the limit for her. She did not have any melt downs nor was she fatigued, but she slept hard every night. On the 6th night, she fell asleep in stroller on way back to room.

The stroller is imperative. She would have been much more limited without the ability to sit down and ride. Rent a stroller.

My wife has been pushing hard for a stroller even though she hasn't used one for quite some time. Guess I have to tell her she's right....

We used Kingdom Strollers and liked it. Had it waiting for us at bell service and left it there on way home. Your arms and feet will thank her for this suggestion. We would frequently use the stroller from front door to land that we were visiting. Park stroller, do items on foot in that area, then grab stroller and use to move to next area. Sometimes in the morning she would be up running and skipping on the way to the park. Every time we were going back to the room, she was riding. Also provides a nice place to stash jackets and bottled drinks. A 4 year old is generally not a trivial amount of weight to carry for a long distance. Typical park visitor will travel several miles every day.

Yeah, I'll take a hard pass on carrying her.

We were there from 10/12 - 10/22. We agree about the crowds, cleanliness and CMs. The only downside was that Dennis DeYoung crapped out of 2 of his 3 concert days.

She is. :D My kiddos still needed a stroller at Disney when they were 7. Hadn't been in one in years, but at Disney it's different. It's Disney World, not the real world. :P

Loved your report - looks like you had a ball, and saw some pixie dust to boot! Best wishes for a speedy recovery (i.e.. back to reality, but then you can start planning your next trip!).

I'm so glad to see this - I've been debating a stroller for our Feb trip and we have 7/8 year olds. The 8 year old would be fine, but the 7 year old is just sooooo slow. And I anticipate that we'll be shedding layers throughout the say in Feb as well.

Great report! Where did y'all stay?

We actually did 2 days at Jambo House and 5 days at Polynesian both on DVC points. We loved both, but Polynesian was overall a little better for trip with 4 year old. The location of Polynesian is such a huge bonus. The theming of Jambo House and animals were fantastic, however the Polynesian South Pacific theme was strangely relaxing contrast to bustling parks. I was nervous on lack of storage space at Polynesian, but the 2 bathrooms provide amazing flexibility and have a couple drawers each. Daughter loved kids splash area at Polynesian and the Murphy bed. Food was probably a draw. Ohana breakfast was probably my favorite resort meal, but the Polynesian food tended to be a little too sweet focused to the point of overkill. The ability to walk with more direct routes at Polynesian made it feel much smaller than Animal Kingdom Lodge. That long winding path to lobby in Jambo House and elevators to go anywhere got old.

Fantastic- we are staying at the Poly on DVC points in Feb. I anticipate a fight over the Murphy bed!

We did get an over the door pocket organizer that we hung on the inside of the main closet. This helped mitigate the lack of drawers in the main room. For us every pocket was filled, and I would recommend.

Great report I've been debating stroller for my almost 7 year old who is really slow! The problem is she is huge for her age - like the height and weight of a 10 year old. I think she would barely fit!
