Hello all! I just got back from Disneyland the other day, and I have to say it was one of the best trips yet. Here are some of my observations, and feel free to ask me any questions.

CROWDS: We were VERY pleasantly surprised by the light crowds on Saturday! I'd been nervously anticipating huge crowds after reading a lot of the threads on this board, but either we got lucky and/or Saturday is a light day, because the parks never seemed crowded or full! Navigating the parks was a breeze and from morning till night, we were able to get on rides with little waits.

BLUE BAYOU: We received amazing service at Blue Bayou- I wish I remembered our waitress and hostess's names because they really went out of their way to bring us some extra magic! We were celebrating my birthday so I requested a waterside table when we checked in, but after the hostess said it would be at least a 30-min wait, we said to forget it since we had a tour to catch and couldn't wait. We still had to wait 20 minutes for our table, and I politely let the hostess know that we had a tour and that's why I'd made the reservation for the time I did, and could we please be seated? Well, a few minutes after we were seated at a table far from the water, which we were fine with because of the time crunch, the hostess came up and said a waterside table had just become available and did we want to move!? We were so excited to be moved to the best seat in the house, and so touched that they came back to us rather than giving the water table to a new customer. And THEN, our waitress apologized for the 20-min wait to be seated and to make up for our lost time, she gave us a FP to the ride of our choice!! My bf and I were blown away by this outstanding level of service. And of course, the meal was delicious as always!

WALK IN WALT'S FOOTSTEPS TOUR: This was the highlight of the trip by far. Our tour guide, Mychal, was absolutely amazing and clearly so passionate about Walt's story- he brought tears to our eyes at both at the beginning AND end of the tour! Riding Peter Pan with no wait was such a treat, since that's a nostalgic favorite of mine that I usually skip due to the long lines. But the best part, of course, was the visit to Walt's apartment above Main Street. This was a LIFE highlight for sure! Afterward we had an early dinner (this was following the 2:30 tour) of sandwiches, chips, soda and dessert from Jolly Holiday Bakery, which was very yummy and definitely added to the value of the tour.

DISNEYLAND HOTEL: This is our second year staying at DLH after 5 stays at GCH, and we officially prefer DLH! Really, I think the only thing GCH has going for it over DLH is the stunning lobby, whereas DLH doesn't have an impressive lobby. I'm sure most people would also say proximity to the parks is GCH's biggest advantage, but staying in the Adventureland Tower at DLH isn't that much of a difference in terms of the walk, at least IMO. We just adored the DLH, from the renovated rooms, which are bigger and cheerier than those at GCH, to the fabulous bar scene at Trader Sam's, being steps away from the best character meal onsite, in our opinion (Goofy's) and of course, the renovated, spectacular pool!! Sunday was our pool day and we were out there for hours, riding the awesome water slide and laying out with frozen cocktails- it was heaven! Especially considering we got a (partial) pool-view room at DLH for less $$ than a standard-view room at GCH, it was a no-brainer for us.

Ahh, what a fun trip, I miss it already!

Thank you for the feedback---it sounds like you had a wonderful trip!

It's so nice to hear about great customer service at the Resort, and glad that you were the recipients of that at Blue Bayou!

What a nice surprise that you were met with less crowding than expected---BONUS!!!

Thanks again for sharing!:thumbsup2

I make a couple trips a year, but this was my first Summer visit for several years. Saturday is a "triple AP blockout" (Deluxe, Southern California, Southern California Select), so Saturday often has the lightest crowds of the week :thumbsup2
The crowds were so light, I might consider another Saturday visit this Summer :yay:

The lines for RSR were some of the shortest I've ever seen.
At 3PM: Fastpass line was empty up to the checkpoint, and single rider only had 10 guests waiting :goodvibes

Great reviews! We love the DL hotel and prefer it to the GCH.

Also of great help in weekend crowds is they are no longer selling blockout day tickets to AP holders.

Thanks for posting! I teared up a little just reading about you tearing up during the tour! :rotfl: Someday, I will take that tour, and probably cry through the entire thing!! :rolleyes1

So glad you had an amazing trip! I teared up on the tour too. Isn't it amazing? Bucket list for sure! I had to keep telling myself I was really inside Walt's apartment! :goodvibes

Thanks so much for your detailed report! Happy you had a nice Birthday trip!

Next trip we are doing the WIWF, this is something I have been wanting to do forever!!! I am sure I will tear up!

Thanks again!

Thank you so much for this. Made me call and see if we could squeeze the tour in and "magically" they had 2 available spots..meant to be I guess.

Sounds like a wonderful visit!! We were there on Saturday too and really enjoyed the light crowds. We walked on TOT with no line at all (I mean right up to the library door) at about 1:30 pm. :thumbsup2

I think a combination of AP blockouts, no more So. Cal Discount tickets and no more Grad Nights really showed on Saturday!

I was at the park the same days you were.Let me add my two cents here.

Saturday was a black out day. There were 8 or so people who cut in front of us that were AP holders, surprise you cannot come in.It was a blackout day.Seriously could not believe people would not check that,

Honestly I believe the food is better in downtown disney and outside the park.It isn't cheaper but you get more and better food.Thats my opinion. We love the Tortilla Joes. Also had a great steak at Tony Romas. We ate lunch everyday and went to parks late.I enjoyed this so much more to sleep late, have lunch and go about 12 or so.This may not work for everyone but it did for the old people.

We stayed at Anaheim Suites again--call and ask for free parking. We parked two cars for free and the room was fine no frills. The pool is awesome huge old style olympic sized, great hot tub.

I have a question about the Saturdays, we will be there July 27-Aug 4th our Saturday is Aug 2nd and I was thinking the crowds would be worse that day but now I am not so sure...should I change our beach day to Friday and do parks Saturday? It looks like everything except premium is blocked

Saturday's with everyone blocked are usually pretty nice. Saturday's are actually our favorite day to go. However, Friday shouldn't be too bad either, although Deluxe passes are good to go Friday. Your beach day on Friday, however, may be better. Depending on the beach, Saturday can get pretty crowded at the beach.

Saturdays are crazy at the beaches. Really crowded. I'd definitely do Disney on Saturday and Beaches on Friday.

That's our plan for August. I'd rather deal with DL crowds, which should be ok with passes blocked, then beach crowds.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on a great sounding trip:yay:. So nice to hear some positive comments about the DLH. The wife and children took a vote several years to either stay at the DLH or stay home!:smickey: Thanks for the positive comments about the park as well. :tinker: I have to attend a Directors meeting at WDW in jan 2015. I am not looking forward to it. I did my best to get it moved to DL but, to no avail.:charac2: The big boss told me suck it up n quit griping.:sulley:. Once again, thanks for sharing your upbeat travel tale.:cool1:

Hi.

I am new to DL and at WDW I used a crowd level chart. Does this exist for DL?What is blocking that everyone is referring to? Thanks!
