Observation deck at the Contemporary?

Last February we ate at California Grill and then watched Wishes outside on their observation deck. I noticed there was another observation deck parallel to the California Grill one.

Is this open to anyone to watch Wishes? And has it also got a speaker playing the music to Wishes as well? How do you get up there?

I ask cause I'm taking my Mom and my girls to Saratoga Springs for a few nights and we aren't doing the parks, only the water parks. My Mom loves Chef Mickey's so I thought we might have dinner there one night and then watch Wishes.

Any info would be appreciated, no flames please. If it is looked upon badly, then I'll know!

Well, I can't answer your question directly. But, I have read that you are not allowed up to the California Grill floor now unless you have a reservation so I don't know that you could get to that area.

Sorry, that's probably not much help but I thought I would put it out there.

You are not suppose to be up there
however
years ago and I think you still can..
if you take the eleavator up as high as it will let you go without a key and make a left down the hall from the eleavator banks (from the elevatores you need to walk toward the rooms facing the back of the resot) there are stairwells --these are a great place to watch the fireworks themselves as many people already know who have stayed on that side the CR. you were able to walk up these stairs as well to the observation deck , again I do not know if you can still do this.

Was just at the Contemporary on Thursday. No you cannot go up there without a reservation. We were there during the day time and wanted to go up as we had years ago. They told us we could go out on the deck on floor number 4 (same level as gift shop). We did and there is still a great view. Sat on the bench for a little while watched the monorails go by. You could see a lot of the Magic Kingdom.

Thanks. On the fourth floor deck can you see Wishes fairly well? Do they pump the music, too? Anyone know if it gets crowded?

When DH and I were there last Sept., I know that they piped in the music on the 4th floor balcony. We were just walking out of the Concourse Steakhouse when Wishes was just about over. We walked outside as most people were coming back in...seems like alot of people can fit out there. The Wishes song that they play after the fireworks are over was playing, so we had just missed it. It does seem like it would be an excellent place to view it from. IMHO, anywhere you can view Wishes from is awesome!! I am a major fan of the show, and will be seeing it again in 11 days, maybe even 10 if I can make it over to MK the evening we arrive at WDW!!!!

Wishes is best seen from within the Magic Kingdom. It really wasn't designed to be seen from outside, although some of the high fireworks are nice.

others are right you now have to have a reservation at the cali grill to view fireworks there. the seperate deck you're speaking of is i believe attached to the cali grill private rooms napa & sonoma which is used for weddings, meetings & private dinners.

You can see quite a bit of the fireworks from the fourth floor observation deck, and they do play the music. You might also be able to see them from a window at Chef Mickey's, but I don't know if they play the music in there.

We saw Wishes last Aug. from the 4th floor observation deck. We did hear music piped in but we were surprised that the view was "fair" at best. Since you are looking at the side of the castle it looks like the fireworks are way over to the side of the castle. Some of them looked like they were way over by Space Mtn. Some of my pictures don't even have the castle in them at all. We did go see WIshed from within MK and it totally looks like the fireworks are going off right over the castle and it is gorgeous. We just didn't get the WOW factor from the observation deck at the CR.
