That's New FantasyLand, not THE NFL.
I was at a Gaston character greeting two weeks ago the day after I ran the Wine and Dine Half Marathon. My feet hurt, I was tired, and a little cranky.
I found myself at the end of a long line for Gaston and was a bit impatient and put out that I was going to have to wait forever to get my pic taken with him and go about my day. However, as I neared him, I began to overhear his "schtick" with each guest and observed him interacting with all those in front of me.
He was nothing short of stupendous. He took time to engage each guest, ask them something about themelves or their trip (his bit with the 13 year old boy was quite hilarious) and did everything he could, all the while COMPLETELY in character, to make each guest feel special and appreciated. By the time it was my turn, I was almost in tears. His banter with me was awesome and he suggested telling everyone that I won the race. I display my running bibs on the wall above my desk in my classroom with race pic to go with it and my Gaston pic with me and my medal got the place of honor!
I've sat on this observation for a week or so and thought about it and realized that I can not, in any way fault a CM for doing their job well, even if it's taking up my time!
So the next time I hear someone (or I see) a CM who has "lost the magic" I'll think of Gaston and know that he's a great example of what Disney is all about!
ANd btw, I've shared this with Guest Relations. I want the guy to get a pat on the back!
