Obscure wuestion re: AP + MB

So, my AP expires in May. Instead of renewing, I'm going to buy a new one at the DVC special discount price to activate in August.
If I have a MB that has my current AP linked to it, will I be able to link the new AP to that same MB, or will they need to send me a new one....
Any one know - or have an educate guess?

Both.

Your current MB's will continue to work (for approximately 2+ years, then the internal battery will die,)
AND, if you are sent new MB's, they will ALSO work.

There are posters here who have made 6 different resort stays (or more) who have 6 (or more) sets of working MagicBands.


Just to keep things as clear as possible-

There is no reservation info, or ticket info, or credit card info,
or FP+ info "put onto" a MagicBand.

The MagicBands just contain a unique serial number that is used
to access the information that is stored in your MyDisneyExperience computer file.

So, even if you were to lose a MagicBand, the info stays locked in your file.
Disney can just set up a new band (different serial number)
to access the info in your MDE file.
Disney can also issue ADDITIONAL MB's to a guest and each
additional band can be used for the same purposes as the first band.
So, yes, there can be multiple MB's per person, and each fo them can be used by that person.

The MagicBand works like the combination to a locked safe, or a key to a locked door.

Why does this distinction matter?
Because there is so much fear about losing bands and,
in turn, losing all of a guest's information thought to be on the band.

The MB, itself, is not the file of info or the container of the info.
The MB just unlocks the file of info, allowing it to be accessed when needed.

I see. So the MB is really just a gateway into my file - anything in my file can be accessed through the MB (unless I choose to exclude it I assume, as in CC info). So, once I put the new AP info into my MDE file, it will automatically link to whatever MB's I have listed as belonging to me....

This is mostly correct. Nothing can be accessed "through" your band. It's not like having the band opens a portal into your MDE account.

It's just like your name. Just because someone knows your name does not mean they instantly have access to all of your info, taxes, bank accounts etc. Someone needs your name AND birthday AND last 4 of SSN to get into your bank account for example.

Same thing with the MB. Someone gets the ID to your MB, but they can't do anything with it unless they have access to Disney's database where the relationship between that band's ID and your MDE account is stored. Then someone would also have to have access to the other Disney database where all of your MDE info is stored and be able to pull info from that. Your MDE information is 100% safe.

As for the room charges, someone needs your MB ID and pin in order to charge the room and that's how they keep that safe. In order to get the CC stored with your room, they'd have to break into the hotel's computers and the magic band isn't going to help them do that.

All personal info is as safe as it is anywhere else. A hacker might be able to get into Disney's systems (nothing is ever 100% safe), but it isn't going to be enabled by a magic band.
