Obnoxious? Question about Blue Bayou

I really want to experience Blue Bayou, but it is crazy expensive and I am pretty sure my kids wouldn't like the food. Would it be totally obnoxious to go just for dessert? How obnoxious would it be to go and split a giant dessert with the family? Or split one entree with my husband (what we normally do) and one for the kids (less money wasted if they don't eat it)? I know it is DL and the CM are all nice, but I wasn't sure if I would get attitude for wasting a table. (Or attitude from other guests that are hungry and waiting for a table). Thoughts? Thanks!

I can say with a near absolute degree of certainty that you have nothing to worry about.

I mean, I'm sure I'LL be there, judging you fiercely for wasting precious table space, but that's just a hobby of mine.

i know ive heard and been told recently its ok to do what you are saying we are splitting a meal

but i was thinking just going for desert its ok you guys will have fun and the kids meals may have some thing your kids like

No, not obnoxious to go for just dessert, we have done that several times.

I certainly hope it's OK since we plan on doing just splitting meals here in November :thumbsup2

The food is very good, and they have kids items, I wouldn't be too concerned about that. My kid has been all about the adult rib dinner for a while now though. She loves it.

Just a little note to all of you that plan to go and split meals... When you order, don't say "we will split the meal".... Instead, order one meal and ask for an empty plate.

If you order and say you'll be "splitting", you will incur a "split plate charge" of $12. If you want to save money, they can just bring you an empty plate and you can split it yourself. Only order the "split plate" if you each want your own soup/salad and your own helping of sides. Otherwise, just ask for the extra plate.

How about ordering 2 adult meals & 2 desserts to share between the 4 of you?

And as another poster mentioned- don't say you "will be splitting it" because then you will indeed be charged the $12 split plate fee. This fee is for your own sides. So really you are paying for your sides while splitting the main item. Which when you think about it...is not that bad for BB.:rolleyes1 Unless you want your own sides....then by all means.;)

I'm thinking I may take DH & DS here for dessert. They've never been and I know DS will LOVE eating inside on of his fav rides!!

So just go for it! No matter what you choose to do, everyone should eat here once in their lifetime.:goodvibes

I don't think that's obnoxious at all! It's just like any restaurant anywhere. Totally fine to go for just dessert.

I'd recommend just doing dessert at BB, because I've never been blown away by the food. If you really want to try the famous Monte Cristo sandwich, gumbo, or several of the other items, they also serve them at nearby Cafe Orleans. For example, the Monte Cristo is $17.49 at Cafe Orleans, but $24.99 at BB. Admittedly, that comes with sides at BB, but I'd just order it at Cafe O, and get a side of the excellent pommes frites to share around the table!

Whatever you choose, I hope you have a great time! Just beware the split plate charge on entrees at BB! I've had them charge me for that even when I just asked for an extra plate! Though they did bring the extra sides, so they were following the policy, we just ended up with WAY more food than we could ever possibly eat.

I've eaten there many times with my family or my wife, we've gone for full dinners, split dinners, and just dessert, no issues that I can remember.

No matter if you have a reservation or they seat you as a walk-up, it shouldn't matter what you order.

The kid's menu is pretty kid-friendly. I know that you can get hit with the split plate fee even if you just ask for an extra plate. They will give you the sides, but it is policy for the fee if two adults are eating the same entree. It's fine to go for just dessert.

Oh, the Pomme Frites....**sigh** They really are as good as advertised. Hit the BB, but make time for Cafe Orleans if you can.

My family just ate at Blue Bayou last week. The waitress explained our options - share the meal and just get an extra plate (no fee), or pay a split plate fee of $12 and each of us get a salad and full order of sides. We chose the latter which worked out great.

A few years back we had a waiter tell us we couldn't "just get dessert". All 5 of us packed up and left our table after waiting 15 mins for our names to be called. I wish I had called the manager over.

I don't see why you couldn't go just for dessert. I mean, strictly timewise, going for dessert, you are going to occupy the table for a shorter time than someone going for dinner and dessert, or just for dinner.

We wanted to eat at the BB as well, so this maybe what we do. I know that personally, we tend to be in and out of restaurants quickly and try to tip well - if we spend less money, I tip even better (my usual is 20%, more for exemplary service).

So - long story short, you are paying customers, I can't imagine that they would turn you away, and if you got any guff, I would talk to the manager.

I have never eaten there, but I have wanted to since the first time I rode PotC. Next trip I plan on going for desert. I am assuming you can ask for a table near the water. How much longer is the wait for such a table? Can you make a reservation for a table near the water?

You can't make a reservation specifically for a waterside table, but you can ask when you show up for your reservations. It depends on the time of day how long you'll have to wait. We had reservations for 11:30 am and we didn't have to wait any longer for waterside than for any other table.

We went for just dessert a few years ago. It was obvious the waitress was trying to hurry us out so she could clear the table for someone else, but it was fine otherwise.

We used to eat there once a trip, but the food is just not that good and they charge outrageous prices. The last meal I ever ate there was the basalmic mushroom entree and it was $30.

While I agree that BB is outrageously expensive, I have found it to be not that much more than the outrageously expensive quick service spots at Disneyland. An earlier poster mentioned the Monte Cristo is what, $25 at BB, but $18 at Cafe Orleans. Did I get that right? $6 more, but you get the nice sides, the table service, the ambience and the air conditioning. Ok, you also have to add a tip to the total I suppose. Totally worth it in my experience. We were just there last Friday, which was a very hot day outside, so the AC was very welcomed by my family. I had never ordered the Monte Cristo before, and I will tell you that I am a person who usually does NOT think restaurant portions are huge. Well, this thing was HUGE! My husband and I (big eaters) could EASILY have split this thing. Next time we will!

We have gone for dessert before and there has never been a problem. I hope you have a wonderful BB experience!!
