I haven't that pointless, round headed guy around here lately? I hope he didn't get banished to the pointless forest again.

Maybe he is lurking around with bad posts and hummingbirds......

wasn't he going to China or Tibet or somewhere equally exotic for a while? although i think he posted about going to dl sometime on a thread not long ago...hmm,a man of mystery;)

and also a man of cool and inspiring photos!!:worship:

As I recall 0bli0 was going on a trip including the train across Tibet, the highest railway in the world. What an adventure!

I hope he shares a lot of photos! I will probably never get to ride that train but then, I bet you can't hear Pocahontas singing on it either. ;)

I see he's back.....

i am back. wow - a thread all about me?!! im speechless.

:surfweb:
:coffee:
:laundy:
:rolleyes1

ok that didn't last long. yes, dw & i had a great trip through China and Tibet. i took 5 cameras with me - the 1d, the r-d1 digital rangefinder, the bessa 4 (film rangefinder), a 6x6 tlr, and my lomo. this time i took less touristy ones - especially in in places we have been before. there are so many

when we got to Tibet (after a long train trip across the Tibetan plateau), i loaned my bestest and favouritest lens - my trusty 24-70 2.8L to my friend to use for the duration of our stay. i just used prime lenses on the rangefinders and the dslr. it was a hard to do but it let him get some fantastic photos and let me concentrate more on composition.

i'll post some photos over the next few days. i still need to develop 2 rolls of film. and scan in some more of the rolls i have developed.

0bli0, where in the Sydney area do you live? I'm moving there in Oct with my girlfriend. She grew up there, but I've developed this evil, nagging hobby called photography just recently and would like to know, from a fellow photog, where there are good places to shoot in the Sydney area?

(Sorry to threadjack.)

i live on the NorthShore. there are squillions of places around to take great photographs. we have nice old architecture, great beaches, gorgeous landscapes, bizarre animals, many sporting events, dozens of different ethnic and cultural areas, great contrasts, and plentiful beautiful women (uh... and men). they're all within a short journey of each other.

I guess one advantage to taking pictures in Australia is that your images aren't upside down on your sensors.

I'm excited. :)

:rotfl2: True. :upsidedow

i'd suggest packing some things to bring with you:

a) water - we're almost out. we're on high stage of water restrictions. the next stage will require Jesus turning wine back into water...

b) tax - standard income tax rate is 48%. add this to 10% GST, SF Bay area-style property/rental prices, and a ripoff petrol price cycle (price drops on mondays to around $1.19 / litre and climbs to around $1.39 by thursday).

c) hospital bed - yes we have subsidised medicine here, but there are no rooms in the hospitals. be prepared to be sent either home or to a hospital 500km away...

d) motorways - they forgot to build some here. we are currently building tunnels under places all over the city to get people from point A to B. oh, and they all cost money to use. for example, the 178 metre long Falcon street exit costs $1.27 to use

e) 'Zee' - we are all out of Zees, here. they die out with the last Tasmanian tiger. we are now using the new government approved Zed. the downside is Zeds aren't as universally accepted, so we've had to substitute 'S' in the place of Zee in words like centralised and organised.

don't they have that anoying gratuitous U as well, in such things as colour?

they only add the "u"s every other fortnight

I was going to tell you all that I just saw a post from him on whattheduck.net, but it looks like you already found him.

Can't wait to see some of those Tibet photos.

Nice to see you back 0bli0. Can't wait to see your pics. That certainly is one beautiful area you visited.

I don't recall seeing CarolC around recently. Any word on her. Tell her we were asking about her.

As for letters of the alphabet,,, we here in the North East US, most specifically SouthEastern New England (ie: Boston, Cape Cod, Rhode Island) we don't know how to use our "R's". We add them when they are not supposed to be there... ie: soder (aka tonic, soda, pop), idear (aka, idea, thought) and take them off were they do belong... ie: cah (car), pahk, (park), Hahvid (Harvard University). Funny thing is, people always want us to say "Pahk ya cah in Hahvid Yahd". Problem with that sentance is that there is no parking allowed in Harvard Yard. Its a walk way. No cars allowed. And if you do pahk ya cah theah, they'll tow it to Meffid (aka, Medford).

just thinking good thing oblio is not paranoid( ie we're your number 1 fans/stalkers):rotfl:

we have a thing with 'R' as well. Melbourne supposedly has an 'R' in it, but i can't hear it... we have 'Supa Centa' which sounds exactly like super centre (yes the 'R' goes before the 'E'). other words, like military and battery turn into 'mill-eh-tree' and 'baa-tree'.

and we Aussies (pronounced ozzies, not aw-sees) can add 'o' or 'y' to just about any thing - rego (registration), brekky, servo (service station), sunnies (sunglasses), etc.
this also works for names - Ricko, Davo, Joey, and so on...

btw i think CarolC is still busy with her website project. i havent spoken to her in a few weeks, myself.

I spent the first 5 years of my life thinking my name was Mah-tha as our neighbors and best friends were from NH!!!!

I think the post about the "Zee" is hilarious. I almost spit coffee out of my nose - :surfweb: :lmao: It's too early in the morning to laugh like that!

I also can't wait to see photos. I hope some day to be able to visit somewhere so exotic. (But I guess I need to find that MILLIONAIRE to marry first!)
