We booked a placeholder this past February. I'm not sure of the specific date it expires. It doesn't say on DCL's site (shows my Upcoming Cruise dates as 01/01/34 - 01/04/34) If we wanted to book a cruise for Feb 2018 (President's week) when they are released...it may be possible that cruise would start (figure Feb 17/18, 2018) literally a day or two after the 2-year mark of the placeholder (which should be in Feb 15-17 range). Does anyone think there is a chance the placeholder would still be honored if that were to be the case.

This will help.

You must begin your future cruise within 24 months of the date you booked the placeholder onboard.

No, I don't think DCL will honor the OBB benefits if you move that placeholder to a cruise that begins even a day or two beyond your 24 month window.

That's what I'm afraid of.

We're looking to cruise the same week (President's week), however we are hurt by a couple of coincidental factors. First, President's Day this year was the earliest possible date (15th). Secondly, I heard they actually calculate the "expiration date" as 730 days (normally, the number of days in 2 years) from when initially booked. Well, since this was a leap year, it could cause the placeholder to expire actually expire a day earlier than it otherwise would.

Actually I just received a letter from DCL that I must COMPLETE my placeholder sailing (not begin!) by exactly the two year mark!
Might this be new?
No. That's the way it used to be. Had to be completed by the 24 month mark. But it's changed. Unfortunately, DCL seems to still be using up old pre--printed stock when sending information to those holding placeholders.

If you want to make sure, call DCL and ask (maybe ask to speak to a supervisor), but I'm fairly certain it's not been changed back.

Thank you, you give me hope, that this is the case!
Considering, that if I call DCL 3 times I might get 3 different answers, I would love to see something in writing from them!
And I think they shouldn't send out old invalid information!?
This came together with an advertisement brochure for their 2017 itineraries in Europe - so it was not clear that the information is "old"!
You are sure about this though?

I can vouch that as of May it was definitely started by 24 month mark. I booked the WBTA 2017 in May which made it so that the day I get off the cruise is the day after my placeholder runs out and the placeholder transferred fine.

It's definitely says that you must start by the 'travel by' date (vs. end your cruise by.) This is what my placeholder says:

Travel By:

14-Aug-2018

This reservation must commence on or before the Travel By date listed above or the reservation will automatically cancel and deposit will be refunded.

Was yours made on Fantasy?

Mine says the same thing and I made it on the Fantasy. I even had a conversation with guy in charge of the Future Cruise Desk and he suggested that if I was close to the date, then I should come back on Friday to get the extra few days (I booked it on Monday).

Today's Date: 02-May-2016
Deposit: $250.00
Money Received: $250.00 *
