Obama's Speech

It cost Spitzer his job. Even the news (ABC's Brian Ross) said he was brought down by sex completely skipping over the fact interstate prostitution is illegal.

Sex didn't bring down Eliot Spitzer - arrogance did! :rolleyes1

Can you blame her? She's still trying to get the tread marks off.

I am curious if she perceives she was thrown under a bus. Much is made of his grandma comments.

My mother was vocal to me about things she had said and thought in the past. She is not proud, but considers them life lessons. Lessons meant to be taught. I guarantee she would not feel like she was being thrown under a bus. The content of her character certainly overshadows (greatly) any sins of the past.

I don't believe Obama's grandmother is some fainting violet.

Folks should be careful not to judge the world by fears of their own Gammy/Mee-Maw/Granny's reaction...Not everyone is horrified by an honest discussion of race. A white woman in Kansas raising her black grandson assuredly dealt frequently with issues of race.

I agree that discussion of race is a good thing and so is discussion of this minister's comments. This worries people and it's better to hash it out than let it fester.

But it seems to comfort many to believe granny was thrown under the bus.

Sad.

It is very sad.
I do think they're expressing their experience with their Granny's in families where race just wasn't discussed. They believe that their way is the only way, and it's "normal" because talking about subjects like this is "not nice".

We can only hope this changes over time. Sweeping issues under the rug doesn't get rid of them, it just temporarily conceals them.

Very sad!:sad2:

For all those who cant see what Rev Wright is to Obama...What would you say if McCain said his Spiritual Leader for the past 20 years was Ann Coulter????

As far as I am concerned, Wright & Ann are cut from the same cloth. And Wright is worse since he uses his hate under the guise of 'religion"!:sad2:

Yes, an HONEST discussion would be good thing. Still waiting from Obama and his Pastor.

Honestly, I'd take a second look and then look at the life away from the church. That's what I would do.

I think we're treading on dangerous ground when someone's choice of church is a factor in our political life. We should have a reasonable expectation of privacy in that service. We should have a reasonable expectation that the church isn't being infiltrated by someone looking to score a political point. We should have a reasonable expectation that a relationship with one's pastor is a private one. And we sure as hell shouldn't be required to answer for every damned thing about one's religious life.

Examine it? Sure, but it wouldn't be my only criteria or even a major criteria. I get the feeling for too many here, the decision was already made and this entire discussion is nothing more than showboating, posturing, and pontification.

I do think that his relationship with the pastor can be private if we was just some Joe Shmoe. The fact is that all aspects of his life should be made public, after all he wants our vote. I want to know about his political and personal life. They both make up his character, who he is. And we deserve to know exactly who he is before we decide if we want to vote for him or not.

I will use Spitzer as an example. He fooled everybody into believing he was Mr.Morals because he put away the people who did exactly what he did. I'm sure if we knew a little more about his personal life, who he was close to maybe he wouldn't have gotten everyones vote.

Why is it that all of a sudden (err.. within the past week) we should not comment about a politician’s religious life ? Are you kidding me? Are you making this stuff up?:lmao:

For the last 7 years President Bush was raked over the coals for his.

I couldn't have cared less about GW's religion until he started bringing it into discussions about his foreign policy decisions. That's when he crossed the line for me. While it was a personal thing that helped him thorugh the day, or helped him stay off alcohol-it was fine by me.

It's my understanding you can get hours and hours of sermons from Obama's church on DVD. If you really want to know what his religious beliefs are there is nothing to stop you from finding out.

I'm amazed that people who claim to have supported Obama are so quick to feel that they have been fooled from just a few soundbites and are not bothering to look any further than that. :confused3

It's actually 15 years of sermons and this is what they came up with.....

I never said I was fooled by Obama, just Spitzer :)

When did this turn into a Spitzer thread? Turn you back for a minute...

Are you kidding me? Its not worth it to explain since obviously you aren't really reading the posts anyway.

Sorry, I missed the Mr. Morals reference. I have no connection to NY so I really haven't paid too much attention to the Spitzer scandal.

Fair enough, no problem
I am from NY so I used Spitzer as a reference as what could happen when you really don't know your candidate.
