Obama's Inaguration

I live in MD and you couldn't PAY me to go deal with all of that malarkey.

I will be in Florida during Inaguration. Not even bothering to watch it on TV (I NEVER watch Inaugurations on TV - YAWN!).

I live in MD right outside of DC and was lucky enough to be selected as one of the volunteers who will be assisting visitors on the National Mall.....I have to be on the Mall at 5 am next Tuesday.....this is my first inauguration that I will actually be at.

Of course!

I'll be staying with some friends close to GWU and taking the metro around the district. I seriously got the deal of the century on my room. The owners of the house are former classmates of mine from my high school in PR that got married. I am bringing with me a case of a very hard to find rum in return for 2 nights in their guest room.
don't rely on the metro that morning. It will most likely be extremely backed up. your best bet is to walk.

Seriously? Thanks for the tip. I might pack a skateboard then, since a bike is too big to travel with.

Do you know if there are any restrictions on skateboarding in the District? I'll be using it strictly for transportation... no tricks, no scaring people.

I don't live that far away and in a way I guess it would be amazing to attend but......no way. I will watch on tv though.

Hey, for everyone who's planning on going...

It was just announced that all the Potomac River Bridges that lead from Virginia into DC will now be permitted to carry PEDESTRIAN traffic for the Inaugural. These include the "TR"/aka Teddy Roosevelt Memorial Bridge (carries I-66, goes from Rosslyn to near the Kennedy Center), Key Bridge(carries US Route 29 from Rosslyn into Georgetown, western DC area), 14th Street Bridge Complex(actually five different bridges collectively & colloquially known for the DC street they all feed into which runs North/South & bisects the Mall) and Memorial Bridge(the one that runs from Arlington National Cemetery to near the Lincoln Memorial).

ALSO
barrier fencing (including serious metal crowd-control fences) has been temporarily installed between the Inbound/outbound lanes of the George Washington Parkway on the Virginia side of the Potomac, starting at the Northern end of (Old Town) Alexandria. You will NOT be able to park on the frontage roads west of the Parkway in Alexandria and then directly cross to the Mount Vernon bike/walking trail that is on the river-side of the Parkway and that runs between DC & Mount Vernon itself.

agnes!
