My family will be at WDW on Election night and was wondering if anyone knew if they make some sort of announcement on who the President is? Part of me was thinking it will be nice to "get away" from all the politics and that Disney will not announce it, but then maybe they will because of how "big" this election is... any thoughts or experiences from 4 years ago on election night.

Thanks!!
(Not trying to make this a political thread just curious on election night experiences in the park)

We were at WDW on the last election night (2004), and there was no acknowledgement whatsoever of the election. We watched coverage on the TV when we came back to the hotel from the parks that evening.

I don't know that they'll be able to call it even by midnight on the east coast. The polls out west will be open and votes will have to be counted, and absentee ballots are usually counted after "in person" votes. And remember what happened in 2000, where we didn't find out until January. I was SO glad I didn't stay up too late waiting! I think it's more likely that you'll just have to watch the news the next morning. But maybe someone who was there election day 2004 can jump on here and say what they did.

I agree that there probably won't be any definitive word until late at night on the east coast. Us west-coasters don't like it when they project winners before our polls are even closed! You can flip on the TV when you get back to your room for an update.

When you're in a somewhat disconnected environment, such as a park, people tend to pass information on to each other. For example, a CM just coming on duty may have been listening to the news in the car and may pass around information to those interested.

We were on a cruise ship in 1994 when OJ had his infamous slow-speed chase in the Bronco. The cabins had CNN on the TVs, but most people weren't sitting in their cabins all day watching TV. We finally heard about it at the nighttime show from the comedian. Turns out he did sit in his cabin most of the day until his showtime. He started his show by giving an OJ update and then continued with the funny stuff.

So, when the president is determined you're bound to find about it somehow.

Kind of embarrassed to ask this question but:

Who is Obama and McCain?

Mickey is the clear winner. :earboy2: All others need not try :sad2:

I do not trust democrats or republicans :scared1: :earseek:
That said I DO trust Disney fans. :dance3:
What does everyone think about us starting our own party affiliation?:woohoo: :smickey:

The Whitehouse will become the MouseHouse and the capital will be relocated to Disney.
We all agree....it started with a mouse.

Finally a party I can stand behind.

However, in the real world Corporate Disney are no angels also.

If you're going to be out very late that night and for whatever reason would like to know immediately after your news service of choice "calls" the race, I'd sign up for their text service. Most major news outlets offer some variation on a "breaking news" service that will send a text message to your cell if anything major happens. Even my university has that now for emergencies.

Mickey > Nobama & McCan't.
Minnie is also a superior first lady.

I think I'd be annoyed if there was some sort of announcement. The last thing I want to hear people talking about on my vacation is politics.

What date is election night on? We are there between Nov 3 - 24.

But don't worry, it will have no affect on WDW park visitors that day.

I totally agree.

I work with people who are so obsessed with this election they are obsessing about it on a daily basis.

They argue, they say all the bullet points from both sides and it is the same crap everyday.

This will be the last thing I want to hear on vacation.

The only time Disney World makes an overall announcement through the park is one you don't want to hear.

There are thousands of non American visitors in the parks. We even had one earlier poster ask who Obama and McCain are. The American election doesn't mean a darn thing to them. Disney World wouldn't make an announcement on who a new British Prime Minister would be.

You'll have to get the news back in your resort room.

And to all the non Americans who will be at Disney World on November 4th, don't expect anything on your regular TV stations all day long except coverage of the election. Trust me, it gets old very, very fast.

I beg to differ that the rest of the world doesn't care.
Can you say 200,000 in Berlin at Obama's speech?

Thanks to all for your responses. Again, not trying to make this a big "political" blog just curious about announcements in the parks.

Thanks!
