I noticed last week that I was on my last pack of pills. First off I admit I should have paid closer attention to that. So I call the office and the Dr. was on vacation, I was told to call back yesterday and he would call them in for me and I would just have to double up on my first dose. So I call yesterday at 9:30 to ask to get them called in. They asked all the normal questions and when my next appointment is and so on. My appointment is next week. I was told it shouldn't be a problem. I didn't hear anything all day. So I call at 4:30 and he still hasn't done anything with the message according to the woman that answered the phone. He never called them in and they don't open today till 1. Am I out of luck now with the pill? I am scared of condoms because that is how we got our DD.

I'd be livid. I've taken them as late as Monday, but not sure about starting on a Tues. Ask pharmacist.

I am pretty upset about it. That's what I get for going to the small town doctor. He is the only one here. I am going to start looking in the next city over for a new one.

According to the directions on my package, if you miss a day or two, you can double up for up to 2 days. So I've had to take 2 on Monday and 2 on Tuesday before.

Too bad your doc's office isn't nice enough to offer you a sample pack that you can just go pick up. That's what mine does. I wouldn't take any chances if you're not ready for another baby right now!

That's true but you definitely need to use a back-up form of BC. In order for the pill to be most effective you have to take it at the same time each day. Even taking a pill at a different time of day can reduce effectiveness. Good luck!

Maybe the pharmacy will give you a pack until the Dr calls it in. It's not like they are narcotics, I know my pharmacist would do it.

I wouldn't chance it. Especially if you don't want to be pregnant. Iwould either abstain or find an alternate measure of pleasure ;)

You're going to change doctors because of it? :confused3

Here there are signs in my doctor's office lobby, waiting room AND in each exam room telling people to give the doctor/staff AT LEAST TWO WEEK's NOTICE when they need new prescriptions/refills. It's not the doctor's responsibility, or the staff's, to keep track of patient prescriptions. It is the patient's responsibility.

No, it is no the only reason and I admitted my fault in the matter as well. He really is just a small town doc without the latest technology. He uses the hospital here in town to do any procedures. Our hospital is nick named the "band-aid station" becuase that is all it is good for. The hopital isn't that great. He was a convience when I moved here last year because I was unsure of the surrounding area doctors.

I once had a car mechanic who had a sign in the shop that read:

"Poor planning on YOUR part does not constitute an emergency on MINE."

I doubt that the OP is the only person who was waiting for the doctor to get back from vacation, and many of them may have had a greater need. I suspect his office was fielding phone calls all day from patients who didn't notice that their prescriptions had run out and needed a new one RIGHT NOW!

You admitted your fault, then went on to express your anger with your doctor for not immediately correcting your mistake. As others have posted, use a condom and spemicide, or abstain. As someone who had to "abstain" for 3 months due to medical problems, I know it's difficult, but not impossible.

Sorry I came to vent. I never got angry with anyone the doctor's office while on the phone with them, I told them I was very sorry for my mistake. It is just my Dh has been out of town for training and will be home tomorrow. He doesn't work a typical job that he is home every night. He is home maybe 3 nights a week. (train wife here)

I am stressed about other things as well. This just set me over the top that's all.

Thanks to everyone and their tips. The office just called and told me to do the 2 today. And 1 in the morning and 1 at my normal time. Everything should be fine. Should being the key word.

There isn't an RN there who can call in to get your rx refilled? My doc's office does this all the time.

Yeah, you should have planned ahead, but stuff happens. Your doctor's office should be responsive. It would be cause for me to switch doctors.

If it happens in the future, or for anyone else, I would call the pharmacy and ask if they could give some to tide you over. DS's former pediatrician is lousy about calling in prescription refills and our pharmacy (and this has happened with two of them) is very willing to give us some for the interim. Of course, it's life threatening if DS doesn't get it, so that might make a bit of difference, but I think they have also given me thyroid meds too.

I'd absolutely change doctors over this kind of thing. It's not rocket science to refill a prescription, and they should have a nurse to handle this.
