I've been lurking on these boards for over 6 months now & finally registered. Have gotten a ton of great info! However, I cant find alot of info about Oak Plantation. I just made a reservation there for 5/03 for $49.50/night.(Entertainment Rate) and it looks great. Just wanted to see if any of you have stayed there & what you thought. I mainly want clean w/good location and this place looks good for both. It will be me, DH, DS(2 1/2), DS(5). Any input would be great. TIA!

I moved to Orlando in '95 and when I was looking for an apartment complex to live in Oak Plantation was actually an apartment complex!

I went on the tour and looked at the model, and even 7 years ago it needed much help, very run down looking--I believe I had heard they had problems with termites too.

A couple of years later it was made into a hotel/time share, and not much had changed.

Distance to Disney-is about 20 minutes. You need to travel congested 192 to get to the parks.

While you have a good rate, I personally wouldn't chance it.

Good luck and I am sorry if this puts a wrench in your plans.

We stayed at Oak Plantation last March and were very happy with it. Just make sure you have one of the larger one bedrooms (if you have a one bedroom) with the full washer and dryer. The property was clean and the room was very clean. We thought it was a great deal for the price. The pools are nice, and the kids loved the kiddie section. The ride is about 20 minutes to the parks, but you can hop off 192 onto 535 to avoid most of the congestion. We thought the 20 minute ride was well worth it for the other perks like the full kitchen. We had breakfast in the room while everyone was showering etc. which saved a lot of time. We ordered takeout or hit the grocery store for easy dinners a couple of nights. It was nice to have snacks and drinks right in the room. We even packed lunch a few days and froze water bottles each night for the next day. We saved a ton in food alone.

We left the parks every day around 2:00 and went to the hotel for some rest, food, and a swim and returned around 5:00 or so. that worked out great for us. We seemed to need something from the store just about every day, so it was easiest to just grab it on the ride to or from.

I guess it all depends on what you prefer. DH is not interested in staying on site at all. We stayed one night down near Old Town for the same price, and it was a terrible experience. For the extra few minutes, Oak Plantation was well worth it. We had a room just off the pool and brought a baby monitor with us so that at night when the kids were sleeping we could sit out by the pool or in the hot tub and have a cocktail and some adult time. It worked out great. One other thing we really liked was the short walk from the room to the car or pool. It was nice having no elevators or parking lots to walk across to get to and from the car or pool. There was plenty of storage for the kids pool stuff, and they had a blast being just a few steps from the pool. The place pretty much looked exactly like the pictures. We plan on staying there again next year.

We have stayed at this resort 2 different times....Sep.99 and Dec.99, both times for a week. We had one of the larger 1 bedrooms. I would recommend this resort with no reservations, no pun intended. The pool area is very nice, along with the spray area for the little ones. The property is run by Sheraton now....it was associated with Hampton when we stayed there. I think that in early May that the traffic will not be that heavy at all. You do not have to drive all the way down 192 to get to the parks. You can cut across 535/536 and I really feel like you can get to any park in less than 20 minutes. We came back for naps with our 1 child at the time and returned to the parks in the evening. I would not let someone who looked at this property as a permanent residence impact my vacation plans. Living somewhere permanently and for a week on vacation are 2 different things. Do a search on Plantation and you will get several hits. Many by folks who asked about this resort and after staying there reported back that it was a very good deal for the money and amenities. The washer and dryer, along with the full kitchen as smarro mentioned, are great perks over a regular motel room. This resort is not new but we found it to be clean, in good condition, and not too far to the parks. You are very convenient to the Superwalmart on 192 which is great for shopping. Hope you have a great trip no matter where you stay.

Thanks for your input. I feel better about it now. I did do a search & found some other great info on it. Also found out that it was renovated in '97. This board is awesome & it makes planning the trip almost as much fun as going :)
