I usually go with the post office, but their exchange rate is 1.22 euro's to the £. I know the exchange rate isn't great just now, but I'm pretty sure there must be somewhere doing a couple of p more. ;)

Anyone been recently and had a better exchange rate or anyone know of anywhere?

Thanks a lot

Although the PO seems to alwasy have one of the best rates, Marks and Spencer, and Tesco's do rival them sometimes.

I don't tend to checnge money up in advance, as I alwyas thnk you get the best rates from cash machines once you are away. Also if you spend on your credit card you get a very favourable rate too.

Thanks will have a look at M&S and Tesco.

I can't use my credit card as I don't have the pin number for it - this is deliberate, so that I don't spend money :rotfl: so I don't really want to change that.

Can you get money from cash machines with a visa electron card over there? I assumed I would need a proper visa and not a visa debit. Also do you not get charged extra for withdrawls from a cash machine?

Yeah, you can't withdraw with a credit card I think. I always use my switch with no problems, (even in really obscure countries it works fine).

All banks charge different rates but mine's normally only like £1/2 so it works out fine, and I don't like traelling with a big load of money in my bags, I worry enough about tickets and passports!

Not sure I would want to chance it with Visa Electron, a lot of places in uk don't even take it. Might just pay the money onto oh's Mastercard and then pay for everything with that.

RE Electron,

Should be fine as an ATM card.

You can use it anywhere in the world where the ATM has a visa logo.

However using it in shops etc is less likely.

Edit:

Don't pay money into a credit card such as mastercard if it will push it into credit. This could cause them to block the card. Also you loose the fraud protection on most cards.

Thanks for that, I hadn't realised they could do that.
