I was wondering if maybe someone here could help with a problem our troop is having. My daughter has been a girl scout since Daisies and is now in her 2nd year of juniors. We just moved here and I have found a leader for me to co-lead with. The thing is the troop right now consists of our daughters (2) and 3 other girls. We have put in that we have room for 5 more. The problem is that the 3 girls do vollyball on the night of the meetings. The leader has had them in her troop for awhile (and they are awsome cookie sellers) and hates to lose them because she is not quite sure what kind of girls she is going to be getting if any. She would like to accomadate them by having us get to the meeting early at 4:15 do the craft we have planned with them and go over the meeting then have the regular meeting (if we get new girls) at 5:30. I am new to having to deal with something like this and was looking for ideas, and thought maybe someone here could help. Thanks!

Could you possibly change your meeting to another night that would accomodate the VB players also?

i have been a GS leader for 9 years if i were u i would look in too changing the night ( i know it seems like a lot too do for 3 girls but at the age the are most girls walk away from GS becouse sorry too say but its not the cool place too be ..... so if they really want too be apart and want the adult time/help it maybe the best way too help them) also maybe they can get some of there other VB players too join with them .... good luck/ keep up the good work :cheer2:

Well, I'm a Girl Guide leadr up here in canada.

My Main unit is Pathfinders/TREX, girls grade 7-9. What we do is at the beginning of the year is have a meeting and look at everyone's schedule.
Of my 7 girls last year, we were working around 5 in dance, sign language classes, karate, debate, candystriping, and a couple other things as well, never mind my other leader also does Guides grades 4-6, and I also do brownies Grades 2 &3.

We then also have a meeting after Christmas and do the same thing, as we now end up looking at soccer, basket ball and baseball as well!

We also get the girls to get a list of the non-instructional days and exam weeks from their school, We DON'T have meetings exam week.

We ended up meeting 1x month on Thursdays 4:00-5:30, and 1 -2x month Mondays 6:30-9.

To organize I buy a big calendar @ the dollar store and we write on it what they have and when, then see what's left available!

Kris

Thanks everyone, I talked to the leader and we are going to look into switching the day. If that doesn't work we are just going to try and accomidate them since it is only till October. Hopefully that will work out, and that we will also get some new girls to join.
