hi all
havent really been around for a while, as i was gettin down seein all these trips being booked, and havent been able to book ours due to uncertainty with dhs job....

well, we now have an answer.... he no longer has a job in uk. they want him out in france to work a factory out there..... its bad news, as it means he cud be away for weeks on end (or maybe even months) which means i might have to lose my job (only checkout at tesco) but will also mean full time lookin after boys (hard work due to probs with ds2) with no help.

the slightly good news is he will be working in lille..... to which my comment was - not far from disney - we will have to come over during ur work and we can all pop to disney - to which dh said - thats a possibility - lets see what the assessment goes like!!!

obviously - not the way i wanted to get a dlrp holiday, but wud be nice to get this break and use the 40% off (and still hopeful for halloween lol).

i am totally grateful the head of dhs company wants to keep him so much they have looked for a job sumwhere else for him, as his original project he was employed for is on long term hold - so he cud have been out of a job.... but its not nice to think hell be seperated from us all, and in a diff country...

question - can anyone recommend a good cd for learning french - as dh has basically no french knowledge - so anything anyone can recommend wud be great, and obviously cd as can listen in car etc - need asap lol so need to shop for it!!

thanks

Nikki bit of bitter/sweet news but in the current climate you seem to be making the best decision.

Can't help with french dvd for adults but I know that our troops enjoy Muzzy which we picked up cheaply on ebay :)

(((hugs))) Nikki, like you say bitter/sweet news but you have a positive attitude to this it can't help but work out. Wishing you and your family all the very best.

thanks both

reid - think dh wud want the cuddly muzzy aswell as cds lol might see if theres acheap set tho....

any one else with any recommendations of french cds?

im so sorry but so glad that your dh still has a job at the same time. i dont know whether to give you big hugs or congratulate you lol. sorry i dont know any cds but i hope this all works out for the best for you.

Sorry to read that DH might have to go away but thank goodness he still has a job and here's some :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: that you get to visit him ...... and DLRP of course!!

Oh Nikki, its such a hard one cause of course its great news that DH is valued enough that they found him another job but how awful that its in another coutry, but how great is it that is isnt far from Disney!!! you could of couse just move over there for holidays, i can imagine 6 weeks in france in the summer quite nice :goodvibes . hope it all works out for the best :thumbsup2

I think thats a great idea, if its doable Nikki.
Hugs to you - the way things are at the moment, its commendable that your husbands employer has wanted to keep him and found him another job. But it will probably take time to adjust to it, for all of you :grouphug: .

yes - the holiday thing is a good idea and something that has run thru my mind.....

until dh has been out and assessed and come back and discussed with the company - all we can do is wait, as we have no idea what is going to happen and how it will be!

(got my french life brochure thru this morn lol)

will keep u all posted anyhow - and we are very fortunate that his employer favours him so highly!

thank u all again for ur support.....:grouphug:

That's a tough one Nikki, but I'm glad at least he doesn't have to look for another job in this economic climate. Hope it all gets sorted out soon as I imagine the waiting is awful.
Regarding Muzzy, we bought it full price and DS hated it and never wanted to watch it, so personally I wouldn't pay much for it. Having said that it sold on ebay for almost as much as we bought it for so I don't know how cheap you can get them.

I think one of the best cds to listen to in the car is Michel Thomas. His method is only for spoken language, there's no written element to it at all. He has apparently been used by a load of celebs when they need to learn a language quickly. Our local libraries lend them out (useful when money is tight, or just to get a feel of whether you would like the method before buying), but not all libraries do that.

Hope it all works out for you.

thanks lucy - might have a hunt for him then!! have bought a learn french in 30 days (lol) cd for dh to try, he does seem to pick up languages ok, so am hoping after he can get basic bits, hell pick it up ok - its just the starting bit lol

I would go with these too I have the french and Italian ones and they are great

Hi
I agree about the Michel Thomas CD's. His learning method is fantastic. My husband spoke no french whatsoever and in just a couple of weeks listening to them he was able to converse at a basic level. When we went to DLP last christmas he actually walked around listening to the CDs on his ipod. He did get a few strange looks when he was replying to the questions though:) I bought them on amazon and that they weren't that expensive. You need to buy the full course though not just the foundation course.
Hope you all get sorted soon - it sounds like a really unsettling time.
Good luck
Di
