Have been to Alton towers but not the hotel. We are going to Orlando for the first time at the end of May, could you tell me how Alton towers compares to the theme parks there in terms of size, crowds, etc.
Thanks

We went to Orlando last easter and nothing prepares you for the scale. i believe the whole area is eqivalent to greater manchester. We spant 14 days in Orlando and didnt see everything. Anytips please ask. We used these boards and the book "A Brits guide to Orlando "to help us plan . You will have a wonderful time. There is nothing like it in the uk

Alton Towers is good BUT the Orlando parks are just incredible. Vast with amazing detail to theming (particularly at the Disney parks) the scale is just impossible to convey in words. Go and prepare to be amazed.

I stayed at the Alton Towers Hotel last year, we were in the "chocolate" room (all the rooms are themed). It is a very nice hotel but expensive for what you get, I think it is one of them cases where you try it and don't do it again.

Hi Henrydog ~~Welcome to the Dis!~~

Just to give you some idea size wise the following is a quote from Simon's book (A Brits Guide to Orlando and WDW 2002 - which is well worth getting if you haven't already got it!):

Quote
"WDW Resort Florida covers 47 square miles (almost 31,000 acres)
Alton Towers and Thorpe Park would comfortably fit into one of it's car parks.
Indeed, Alton Towers, Britain's biggest theme park, is 60 times smaller
than WDW Resort in Florida.
Disney's Magic Kingdom has a single day record attendance in the region of
92,000 - Thorpe Park in Surrey (500 acres) peaks at around 15,000 "
Unquote

Prepare yourself to be absolutely blown away by the sheer size of it all - it
never ceases to amaze me :) :)

I hope you truly enjoy your holiday :) :) There is nothing quite like the first time :)

Hi Helen - we've stayed at Alton Towers Hotel twice, admittedly a few years ago but I doubt its changed much in the meantime - its great fun with excellent theming throughout and is a good family treat to stay there if planning to spend a couple of days doing AT.

It is expensive but room prices vary and they used to do (don't know if they still do) inclusive packages combining hotel & admission to park. When we went - there was early entry to the park, hidden treats in the room for kids, kids entertainment throughout the day/evening. There was also a indoor pool area decked out like a pirates lagoon. I don't know how it compares with US Disney hotels but never having been to WDW we found it a magical experience - I would say it was better than Sequoia Lodge at DLP (IMHO)

Hope thats helped?
Janet

Hi Helen,

We have stayed 3 times in the hotel.I think it's briliant to stay there, although not cheap! Its so safe children can wander around on their own and there are lots of unique touches like when you get in the lift the lights flash on and off and music plays! There are grounds,a lake, swimming pool etc.You have early entry to the two most popular rides.

I think its a great break here for children and teens:D
