O/T 1st night without a dummy give me strength

Title says it all really trying to get my 2 1/2 yr old daughter to give up her dummy because she keeps biting through them and to be honest im convinced that she dont need it!!
Someone just needs to tell her that!! Been nearly 2 hours since she went to bed and she still awake and moaning for it !!!

Afraid I've always been one for an 'easy life' so have waited til the kids gave up 'comfort' items of their own accord ........Found DS's (now 21) 'blankie' hidden at the bottom of his bed when he was 11 and we moved house......

Hope everything goes ok and you get some sleep - biting through her dummy doesn't sound healthy........

When my kids were small we got them off dummys at Christmas time by leaving them for Santa on Xmas Eve with a note to ask him to swap them for a gift (I thinks DD's was a bike). If they complained about wanting the dummy back afterwards I said they could have one but the gift had to go back. It seemed to do the trick Good luck

Oh dear. With my first I never gave him a dummy for fear of this problem, thankfully he didn't seem to need one. However by the time Owen was 7 weeks I nearly ran to the shop to get him one. Not looking forward to this problem either but from what friends have told me in a similar position they do grow out of it themselves eventually.
Have you thought about a comfort blanket instead or like I have for both of mine a Kaloo bear that is a head attached to a flat fabric body so they are a comforter too. They do them in pink and she could choose her own.

We stuck to this principle with our three as well.

From friends the idea of that she is a big girl with a suitable reward seems to work.
Agree with others, stick to it I'm sure you will manage to wean her off the dummy

This is what my Mom did with me! then the next night I wanted my dummy back and she said that the Reindeer were using them! I am trying to summon up the courage to try and get Shelby's dummy off her now, she only has them to sleep most of the time, but as Harley is still pretty little she would just nick his if she wanted one!

From about the age of 2 and a half we told the kids that when they were 3 they were now a 'big boy/girl' and had to leave their dummy out for the dummy fairy to take away and give to another baby who needed it.

We got a friend to write a thankyou note from the 'dummy fairy' and they were chuffed to bits and very proud to have helped another little baby

Thanks for the support x DD did eventually go to sleep at just after midnight she woke again at 3am and asked for her dummy so DH said ill go look for it and then just got back into bed She just rolled over and went back to sleep without it !!!
She woke this morning and has decided that the spiders have took her dummy *** spiders are nasty
Bless her im just hoping that tonight goes as easy. I was going to wait for her to give it to santa but I was getting worried about her biting them in case she choked on some of the silicone in her sleep

Best of luck for night two!

Both my girls suck their thumbs, and while I'm not happy about it they have regular dental check-ups which are always okay and they only suck them when they are tired now.

All three of my best frinds girls had dummies but she took them away after their first birthday as she felt they could get comfort from a cuddle etc.
This seemed to work for her as they were still quite young and hadn't got too attached, I suppose.

My youngest was 3 when i finally managed to get her off her dummy. In the end the only thing that worked was i cut the top off of it with a pair of scissors (when she wasn't looking of course) and left the dummy on the table.
When she did venture over to it she kept putting it in her mouth taking it out and looking at it over and over. She herself decided that the dummy was no longer any good and that was it so to speak!

My DD had a dummy till she was about 8 months untill she bit the thing, no dummy was good enough for her after that. It had a large teet and all the ones i saw were small ones.

She soon got over it, hope your little one does too

Omg I am in total shock my dd took herself off to bed I gave her a drink and a kiss and then 10 minutes later she was fast asleep - not even a mention of a dummy !! Cant really be that easy can it ????
