O.K., just joined DVC last week and .......

I bolded that line of your statement because it is not true. The real topic of this thread was the OP asking if it was possible to book at the 7 month window at other than your home resort. The answer to that is YES, any "debating" beyond that is a tad off topic.

:thumbsup2 I wanted to point that out as well...but couldn't communicate my thoughts as well as you just did!:thumbsup2

I can't seem to organize my thoughts today... must be because I am one of those horrible SSR owners!;) :lmao:

 It most certainly is. Read what the OP said:

We bought 200 pts at SSR. I understand we have an 11 month window to book a vacation there because it's our home resort. And we have a 7 month window to book at one of the other 7 DVC's. Is it really hard to get a reservation at a DVC that isn't your home resort? We tend to go during non peak times for a 4 day visit.

Inarguable bottom line: the crux of the OP's question was how difficult seven month availability is.

;)

You're exactly right and we didn't buy into DVC solely to stay at one property (much less only DVC ones, we've traded into non Disney resorts numeorus times via II).

That stated, I think the issue being "debated" here is whether the growth in membership has impacted the ability of people to readily get what they want at 7 months. And the answer is "while exactly how much so depends on what you're looking for, in general, yes." Ergo, the growth in the number of posts here from new (or potential) members of a certain resort all asking "how hard is it to get ressies at (insert MK, AK or Epcot area property name here)" is definitely telling us something.

Or put another way, I feel it is grossly unfair for anyone to imply that 7 months ressies in the preferred (read: close to park) properties are just as easy to get now as they were 8 years ago. It's bad enough the DVC sales staff is often leading people down that path, let's not make it worse.;)

I do agree here. I feel the DVC staff does lead people down a "utopic path" when I really wonder if they know what is going on in the real world. The fact that people are making ressie's at 7 mos. day-by-day tells you something.

That poor horse never stops getting beat...:snooty:

Been saving this one for a long time :)

Bingo - and the addition of the teeny-weeny small print "based on availability" qualifier on DVC sales promotions is not an excuse. I'm just waiting for the inevitable class action lawsuit from upset purchasers, claiming lack of disclosure!

Don't hold your breath. That contract they signed has a bit more fine print in there than the sales stuff...so if they didn't read it and/or understand, then I doubt it is anyone's fault but their own.

I think the fact that there is an 11 month window versus a 7 month window pretty much tells one that there is limited availability. Isn't that the whole point?

I would even go as far as thinking anyone booking anywhere in the world understands that there are only so many rooms in any given hotel.

Do you really think there are those that think DVC is holding rooms for them until they decide when and where they want to stay? Really? And then do you think they would find a bunch of others with that same thought? And they are all going to get together for a lawsuit?

Really?

:lmao:

The OP's question can be answered very easily and without a lot of deabte. Sometimes it is easy to book at 7 months, other times it is harder and you may not get the accomodation you want. However, thanks to the beautiful larger DVC resorts you may find availability is not so hard to come by at 7 or less.

:thumbsup2

P.S. There is a rumor that there are DVC resorts that are 'preferred' over BWV.

Sorry I caused such an uproar with my question. I'll make beachblanket happy and always book at SSR. We kind of rushed into buying. My nephew got us a cast member discount and we had to do it fast because he was leaving the summer intern program. Would of loved to have bought at Wilderness Villas, but didn't know if we'd be able to do that, so bought at SSR. Just trying to figure out how all this works!! Getting an education on some things really fast..............

On behalf of all the posters in this thread, I am apologizing to keggero. There is nothing wrong with asking a question.

To the others -

Please review the DIS Posting Guidelines, particularly #3.

3. NO FIGHTING/SARCASM: While we'd like to think that a Disney fan site is always lighthearted, there are times when there are disagreements. Let's face it, there are certain topics that can transform any of us into a raging "Donald Duck." When you sense this is happening, we ask that you step away from the discussion before it escalates into a fight. Just like Mom always said about fighting, we don't care who started the argument and we don't want it on the DIS. (Okay, she didn't say the part about the DIS, but you know what we mean.) No attacking others and no sarcasm please. Either will result in an infraction..

When you see posts that you believe violate the Positing Guidelines, either ignore the post or use the "Report a Post" feature (triangle icon at the bottom of the screen name frame). Let the Mods handle it.

I personally loathe posts that include only a smilie - if I could I would ban the dead horse and the popcorn smilies. Those posts add nothing to the discussion and bump the thread to the top of the page where it can continue to be in the spotlight.

We allow and welcome all opinions here - we do not welcome insults, name calling, labeling or mean-spirited posts. Be careful how you use the quote feature and please consider how your posts appear to others - especially to those who are new. Please help us keep the DIS a welcoming place

OK. Mother's lecture is now over - please don't make me do it again!
