NYEve at EPCOT..what happens?

This will be our first NYE at WDW.

I've heard people mention the giving out of party hats, horns, etc
and each country celebrating when it turns the new year in their home.

Are these scheduled? In other words, will the guide map say: "xxpm New Years in Italy "? Or do I just need to know the time zone difference?

Will there be other things going on? I don't want to miss out on a thing! AND I KNOW the DIS is the place to find it out!

We spent last NYE there. Started the day at MGM and headed over around 5pm. Had ps at Teppanyaki so tried to go to FW for a while , but very crowded. They hand out noisemakers and hats around 6pm and it gets crazy. There are many outside stages and live shows set up, but that night it was pouring after we got out of dinner so we were drenched and did not stay for the fireworks. It is fun..We will be there this year at MGM instead.

A question: why are you going to MGM this year? (I am asking to learn!!!)

Were the crowds so bad last year at EPCOT that you can't bear to face it again? Or maybe it is just to do something different?
