NYE plans - advice from those who've been there & done that!

We are doing our first holiday trip this year. WOO HOO

Our plan for NYE is to go to AK at park opening for a few hours and then hop over to MGM and stay until 3am as they have evening EMH.

Is this a good idea or for those of you who have been there and done that on NYE think we may not get in to MGM?

Also, do you think MGM will be more crowded than normal because they have EMH until 3am?

Our kids are 14 & almost 11, so we thought they'd enjoy the more "rock" atmosphere of MGM over Epcot or MK.

That's exactly what we did two years ago. Animal Kingdom closes early and it wasn't that crowded at all. My son and his family then left to go to MGM and they had a great time. My daughter-in-law has crowd issues but she said she'd be back at MGM for New Year's Eve anytime. Not sure what the Extra Magic Hours will do, though.
