NYE Menu ideas

I love app type parties. Our store deli has a good spinach dip that we hollow out the round sourdough and dump it in/cut up the remaining bread. Salami/cheese/crackers always goes fast. Safeway has an olive bar where you can buy different kinds of olives. Meatballs in the grape jelly/chili sauce in the crockpot. My mom threw NYE parties for years and always had a small tray of most items in the refrigerator to bring out around 10pm. Seems people get a second round of hunger around that time. One friend threw a party from 4-10. People were hungry as they thought "food" around dinner time. There were a few apps and that was it. The 7 layer dip was gone and I think people would have ate the plate if they could. Depending on the time of your party, if it's at dinner time, just make sure there is food to fill. I'd also probably buy some yummy cookies or some type of sweets.

Doing a nacho bar, shrimp cocktail, spinach dip and breadbowl. And some sparkling cider. It will be just the 4 of us...3 if my older son goes up north with friends.

New Year’s Eve has always been appetizers. It has only been me for a dozen or more years but I have kept the tradition. Some years I make them other years they are frozen. This year I’m picking things up from Applebees.

I cook for every holiday except NYE, I got several frozen appetizers at Trader Joe's. I received several cheese and sausage gift baskets from clients. Picked up some good prosciutto, olives and honeycomb and that's our plan, cut up meats\cheeses and heat up apps.

Prosciutto & Asparagus (and cheese) wrapped in puff pastry and a Vanilla Fig cocktail

It's just me, husband and daughter. Instead of a meal I'm thinking of appetizers. So far I'm leaning towards Artichoke/spinach dip, cocktail meatballs in the crock pot, ham and cheese pinwheels and maybe something else. I haven't done my grocery shopping yet so this may all go to pot if I can't find anything I need.

My wife considers Black Eyed Peas and Ham to be a traditional New Years Eve dinner. No idea where she got that from, but other than the New Year's Eve we were on a Disney cruise, it is what we have had for NYE dinner for 39 years.

My mother-in-law feels the same way. It is supposed to be good luck. Unfortunately, I have hated black eyed peas since I was a child, so I cover them in hot sauce. :rotfl2: I also don't eat pork. We usually stop by to eat a spoonful of beans and I'll order us takeout for later.

I have the day off so I think I'm going to make Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon recipe with some sort of crusty bread on the side. I'll make something light for dessert like angel food cake and berries.

You can use any sausage in this dish or even ground beef if you prefer.
