I read that NYE is treated as a formal night, does that mean cruises that happen that week have two formal nights? Does it just shift away from night 2? Do fireworks happen on NYE instead of Pirate night? =) Can I ask any more questions? Hee.

Thanks for anyone with info, I could find lots on what happens party wise on NYE, but not how it affects the rest of a schedule that veers it away from "standard."

We did a NYE cruise on the Dream several years ago. It was our favorite cruise we've ever done (and we have done quite a few.) There was a big party on the deck and fireworks were NYE and not Pirate night. Cast members were passing out champagne (or apple cider for the kids) on deck, there was a countdown. It was really fun. We only had a 4 night but I suspect that you'd still only get one formal night. We had an at sea day on Jan 1st - they showed the Rose Parade on the big screen and some football games as well.

Hah A day at sea on the 1st sounds fantastic, every one can sleep it off! =) Thank you for that info. I'm guessing since NYE is a formal night it replaces the "normal" formal night, and I wonder if that moves everything else around in the schedule, or if it is more planned by when in port or not, for things like fireworks, etc. =)

WE've done 2 NYE cruises on the Fantasy. The first NYE was the boarding day and there was a special NYE menu, which was different from formal night. It was listed as a formal night as well. The 2nd one NYE was on formal night, but I don't remember the menu. We also had fireworks on both NYE & Pirate night. However we did not have the Pirate menu as thy only have one special menu per cruise (on the 7 night Fantasy).

Oh! That's interesting to know, just one special menu. A lot of folks don't seem in love with the Pirate menu anyway. And fireworks on two nights sounds pretty cool, if it happens. I suppose it gets planned around port stops etc., with the fireworks. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Yes we were told, when we asked, that they only do one special menu. Hence we have not had the pirate menu since they changed it a few years ago - we currently sail at the beginning of the year so either a NYE one or a cruise that has turned into a Star Wars one. Of course that could change at any time, as could the double fireworks.

They adjust the schedule according to the timing of your specific cruise. We brought in 2017 on Wonder. We sailed on the 30th. NYE wasthe evening formal night is usually held, so we followed the regular schedule for the entire cruise. We had Pirate night on Jan 2, and fireworks on both nights. It was one of our favorite cruise. There’s something magical about doing NYE on a cruise.
