Hi all! We just got back from a great trip eight night trip to WDW for New Year's. We drove down from NJ and even with some bad GA traffic and two Cracker Barrel stops, made it down in just under 18 hours. Our two daughters, ages 11 and 7, were very good...thank God!

Here's the bad parts of the trip: CROWDS (it was packed); seagulls at BW and Epcot...very annoying and aggressive; limited reservations available anywhere for dining, etc. due to crowds.

Here's the good parts of the trip which far outweigh the bad: we checked in at 9:00 a.m. and our room was ready! And what a room...overlooked the BW from surrey rentals up until Epcot walk, the Epcot ball and fireworks...loved it! The WEATHER...who cared about the crowds cause we stayed in the pool, went for long walks around the beautiful BW/BC/YC area ...75-80 and sunny every day, not one drop of rain. PEOPLE...met some great folks from all over by the pool and had some great chats....our favorite was a little "chum" for our daughter...7 year old Courtney from Scotland whose family are DVCers and DISers as well. And finally, can't be in Disney without mentioning food...the BLUEBERRY stuffed French Toast at the Yacht Club Galley.

Am already planning our next trip for the fall and cannot wait!

Thanks for the trip report. Sounds like you had a great time! You couldn't ask for any better weather in December.

The weather sounds wonderful. The last time we went for NYE, we froze. Needed heavy winter coats. Wish we could have gone.
Glad you had a great time. Did you happen to see the festivities they had at the BW for NYE? Or were you at one of the parks?

Hey pentex....we were probobly right behind you on 95!! I ditto everything you wrote!!

Bumping...

DCBrown, wasn't it a good drive? We were very surprised at the light traffic!

RingBearer, for NYE, we hung out on the Boardwalk. They set up the "green" area with a DJ who was awesome. He had everyone...kids, parents, teenagers dancing away. We went to dinner at the Flyin' Fish at 9:00 (where we met John Stamos and wife and got a photo with John!) and then we headed back to the DJ. They handed out hats and noisemakers. There was a full service (cash) bar set up and DH and I had several cocktails without worrying about driving, etc. Everyone was in such a party mood....we met so many nice people and had the best NYE we have had in many years!

I highly recommend the Boardwalk for families with kids for New Years Eve!

Great drive...we left at 4am on the 26th ...my 2 kids slept most of the time! We were on the Board Walk for NYE as well ....we ate at Spoodles at 8....how did we miss John Stamos....I am bummed....but a great night anyway....good place for NYE...thats our 2nd time! and not our last!

How funny is this...we must have been driving by each other at some point...we left central NJ at 3:00 a.m. on 12/26! Our kids were sleeping a lot too (thank God!) Seriously, wasn't the traffic wonderful (aside from GA)?

Stamos ate at the Flyin' Fish but then we didn't see him again....

I totally agree about the seagulls...I don't ever remember seeing them before, they were very annoying.
We also drove, from northern Illinois, and on our drive down (also hit GA traffic, coming AND going!) on 12/20 to 12/21 I called for PSs from my cell phone, because we hadn't made ANY before leaving home. We were able to get all the times that we wanted. Then again, we had planned on EATING IN on both Christmas Eve & NYE, to avoid crowds.
The weather was incredible, wasn't it?! This was our third year in a row for the holidays, and the first year we've been able to swim.
Right now, it's 10 degrees here :) Oh, well, I'm looking forward to our end-of-March trip, when *hopefully* there will be less CROWDS.

pentex....we were in a green conversion van ....you couldn't miss us ....the van had writing in yellow paint all over it .....NATIONAL CHAMPIONS....my daughter had just won the pop warner junior pee wee small National Championships 2 weeks earlier ....at no other than WDW!!

We got a few thumbs up on our ride!

Sounds like you all had a wonderful time! We are going this year for NYE.
Would anyone recommend going into a park that night?

We left on 12/26 at 6:20 am and made it in 17 hours. The traffic was worse then it is in the summer. We were also at BWV in room 5015, boardwalk view. We actually saw the fireworks from the MK as well as Epcot from our room. We spend NYE in Epcot which was wonderful. We were back to BW by 12:30 and the party was still going on, so we hung out there for a while. We weather was amazing!:earsgirl: :earsboy:

The sea gulls were aggressive. We saw a boy get his corn dog taken right out of his hand by a sea gull. We were walking near China at Epcot. A boy and his family were in front of us. The bird came over our heads and swooped down grabbed the corn dog and took off. The boy at first was scared then we all laughed in disbelief.

Yep, I had a bout with an agressive Epcot gull too! I walked out of the fast food restaurant at American adventure, and a gull swooped down and grabbed my carton of fries right off my tray! Knocked the tray out of my hand too! A cast member came running out with another carton of fries and cup of water ( the other item on my tray) and said they sit up on the building and swoop down fast like that all the time.
