We have never done the holidays at WDW, but currently have reservations for NYE. We have agreed we don't want to do a park on that day, but would likely resort hop to look at decorations. I thought we could end at the Poly to see the MK fireworks. What time would we need to get there? Should I expect the beach to be shoulder to shoulder?

I remember reading on the theme parks boards that for the major holidays, they restrict access to the Poly beach to guests staying at the resort or someone with an ADR at Ohana or Kona. YMMV.

Can anyone confirm this? Is there anywhere to view the MK fireworks without being in the park?

I watched them from the BLT bridge. (I was staying there). Truly amazing. There is a large area you can watch them from near the bridge, but is really part the Contemporary. I think anyone can watch from there. Beware, I think is is a smoking area though (??)

The year I was there, Dec 31 night I was on cash, so I could not access the BLT lounge. (I am a member).

You could likely sneak onto the BLT bridge, the door opens and closes frequently....... but you did not hear that from me. :stir:

PS on Dec 31, we went to AK, and it was not that bad! AK does not stay open late, of course, so I guessed it would be the least crowded of the 4 parks. I have a special needs son, who I push in a chair, so packed parks don't work for us, plus he is asleep by 9 or 10 every night.

All of the Magic Kingdom resorts will be hard to access on NYE unless staying there or having a reserved dining reservation.

It is simply a case of crowd control.

I can confirm that the Poly restricts access to the beach on NYE. They were checking KTTW cards and it was Poly guests only (unless you had purchased access to one of the pool cabanas).

Yep and they are extraordinarily aggressive about it...

Last year i could not find a location to sit down and watch it. Everything was blocked out by CMs or already take by guests. I don't understand why the Contemporary does not have a NYE party. The GF does and the Poly does... I guess the Contemporary doesn't think it is important... but it is... Ended up just sitting on the bumper of my truck and watching it from the BLT parking lot. They shoot fireworks up from... more then a half dozen locations around the 7 seas as well as the MK. So you need a view of the whole area to see everything.
