Has anyone been at Disney for New Years Eve? Do they do anything special. Not necessarily at the parks but like DTD or Boardwalk?

Thank you

Kim

The fireworks at the parks a treat within them selves, they also hand out free noise makers and hats in the parks. Other than that I'm not sure if the BW or DS does or will do anything special for the NY. Would I recommend trying to do anything on property during that time? No. It's one of the busiest days of the year at WDW.

I don't believe too many special things are done outside the parks. I strongly recommend being in the parks for NYE

Here's what was offered outside of the regular park entertainment. Boardwalk does have a NYE party at the Atlantic Dance Hall.https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/b...-eve-experiences-at-walt-disney-world-resort/
But if you want party atmosphere there's no where like Epcot. You don't even have to get there early as the park hasn't closed for capacity in a very long time.
We arrive around 6pm and just walk around, we don't plan on doing any rides. But they have parties in China (fire breathing dragon) Italy (lasers/techno music) America (DJ and latin live band) Japan (silent party, they give out headphones that you plug into a specific app on your phone and only you can hear the music, it's funny watching everyone dancing with no music) UK, and the Fountain Plaza DJ. hen before midnight each country does a countdown with specific fireworks and then all hell breaks loose :D

I am thinking about doing only MK on Dec. 30 but spending morning on the 31st in AK or HS and then heading over to Epcot. Would park hoping on the 31st be a bad idea (just two parks but still)? Which park AK or HS is a better choice? We will be staying on site.

They offer a party at all the resorts. Mom, my sister & I resort hopped New Years Eve 2014. It was a lot of fun. They were handing out sound makers & hats at each one of the resorts. Except for the villas. We ended at the Grand Floridian & they had a huge party in the lobby with balloons, very fun.

Nye fireworks are amazing at the MK. You better be trying to get a spot at least 6 hrs early though... last year 6 hours before the fireworks there was hardly anywhere at all to stand.

As long as you're not hopping to MK you'll be fine. I would go with AK to be less crowded, then hop to Epcot later in the day whenever you feel like it.

We were there this last NYE and we had a great time in Epcot. We always avoid the busier times of year but the crowds didn't bother us at all because it was like a great big party.

It has been about 5 years now but my family spent NYE at the Boardwalk and it was FUN! they passed out hats and noise makers and had a DJ/dance party in the big grassy area that is between the Boardwalk hotel and the water which went on until just past midnight. We arrived around 7ish and had dinner and then once we were done they were passing stuff out and we just walked around for a bit enjoying the atmosphere before the dancing and music started and then we all enjoyed that. Young and middle aged! We also watched fireworks from the Boardwalk too.
We had a package that didn't start until the next day so we didn't have park tickets on that night (this was before I knew we could have picked them up early! LOL) so we were just looking for something "cheap" to do and not enter the parks. Even with park tickets I would choose this again in a heartbeat. yes it was crowded but nothing like the crowds found in the parks!

Thank you so much for this information.

My family of four has two children 18 and 22 and while my dh and I could stay in and be fine on NYE, with the kids home from college and law school and wanting to go with us to Disney, I sure as heck want to keep them happy so they want to do this again another time lol

On NYE, it will be our Epcot day. We will go at RD and leave at lunch.

Today was my 180 mark and I wanted 8 pm at Yachtsman. I figured after dinner we could walk back to Epcot for drinks and fireworks or see if anything is happening at Boardwalk. What you said just gives us another option.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it.

You are welcome. We were being cheap so we just had Boardwalk pizza for dinner and then got some ice cream after while we walked around. We all really enjoyed the dance party. Hope you have a great time!

Thank you again very much! You sound like you had a wonderful time!

I was there over the New Year back in 2012-2013.
During the day we went to DHS and then went to Epcot at night. It was crowded. Like insanely OMG I've never seen it like this CROWDED. They had backstage areas open (one path took us from right around Rose and Crown backstage over and out by Imagination. Very interesting).
That being said, it was a lot of fun and the New Year's Eve version of Illuminations was amazing.
NYE at a Disney Park is something I reccomend everyone do once, if possible. Just make sure you are ready for serious crowds and set your expectations accordingly.
